Deep in the Heart of Texas - The Sequel - Part 1
This is a sequel to my story, Deep in the Heart of Texas. Here's what happened last time:
Bo had moved back to Texas to run the Buchanan Ranch after Melanie was sent to jail for killing Colin. What was left of the Rappaport family moved back to Chicago. Sam had been killed by a disgruntled guitar student. Lindsay was in jail for her part in ruining Nora's life. Asa talked Nora into going to Texas with him when he found out Bo was slacking off on the job. Asa also had ulterior motives.
After some tense moments, Bo and Nora rekindled their love. They moved back to Llanview, remarried, and Bo adopted Matthew. Bo and Nora opened a detective agency, and nine months later, Nora gave birth to a girl, Rebecca.
Back in Llanview - A Year Later:
Bo heard Rebecca fussing and instantly woke up. He crawled out of bed and went to her room to check on her. It was 3 a.m.
She was a year old now, but she didn't always sleep through the night. He didn't mind getting up. He relished any moment he could have with his kids.
She stopped crying when her daddy held her in his arms. She fiddled with the chain he always wore around his neck. That was one of her favorite things to do, or play with the bracelet he wore as well. Bo sat down in the rocker in her room and swayed her back to sleep. It was one of the best feelings in the world for him.
Now when Matthew woke up during the night, it was a whole different ball game. He usually wanted to play or talk. If he wanted to play, it was usually camping and Bo would crawl into his little bed and they would get under the sheet with a flashlight. Bo would tell him stories. If Matthew was in the mood to talk, he could talk a mile a minute if he set his mind to it. Bo actually loved when he was in those moods. They would talk about anything and everything - from bugs to books to TV to sports and sometimes his mommy and little sister and other assorted family members. It had taken Matt some getting used to that his Uncle Bo was now his dad, but eventually everything worked out. It was hard for the little boy to exactly comprehend what had happened to Sam. But, he was thriving.
Bo never thought he could be this happy again. Every day he secretly thanked Asa for sending Nora down to Texas to rescue him. And rescue him she did! They were a family. Something he had wanted since the day he met her.
Bo's friends and family were happy to have him back in Llanview. The Mayor and some members of the LPD begged him to come back to the department, but Bo wanted to try something new.
On that end, things weren't so hot at the B&N Detective Agency. They had a few cases to handle since they opened, certainly nothing earth shattering. Both he and Nora had excellent reputations in their fields, so word of mouth was good. But, Llanview wasn't exactly a hotbed for mysteries. At times it was downright boring. The complete opposite of being police commissioner. But, again, the upside was Bo got to spend his days at home with Nora and the kids. He couldn't have cared less if the phone ever rang again. Money certainly wasn't a worry for them.
Nora turned over to reach for Bo and she found his side of the bed empty. She got up and walked to Rebecca's room and there she found him. It was getting to be a familiar sight. The majority of the time either of the kids needed them, Bo was the first to get up. She loved that about him. He was so attentive to their needs. She knew he was trying to make up for lost time, especially with Matthew, but his gestures always warmed her heart.
N (whispering): Hey. Everything okay?
B (a bit startled): Hey, Red. We're fine. Becca was fussing, so I came to check on her. (He continued to rock her while she slept on his chest)
She was a beautiful child....reddish brown hair with blue eyes and a cherubic face. She looked very much like Nora, to the delight of Bo. He now had two beautiful girls to fuss over.
Nora kissed her daughter on her head and then stretched out on the Winnie the Pooh carpeting. She was exhausted.
Bo looked at her. At times he was totally selfish and wanted Nora all to himself, no kids, no work, nothing. Gone were the days when he could just touch her and they would have at it the whole day. He missed that. They tried very hard to make time for themselves. Thankfully, they did have a lot of help in that department. Asa and Renee were always willing to watch the kids. Jessica too, even Hank.
They sat silent for some time. Soon, Nora broke the silence.
N: Bo, I'm not happy.
