Deep in the Heart of Texas - The Sequel - Part 4

They spent their day at the aquarium. Bo and Nora only communicated through Matthew or regarding the kids. Nora couldn't believe how stubborn Bo was being and Bo couldn't believe that Nora actually wanted to move to Texas.

They dropped Matthew off at Asa and Renee's. Matthew couldn't wait to tell them about the sharks he saw. Nora put a sleeping Rebecca in her crib and the two of them met up in their bedroom.

At first awkward silence filled the room, each of them milling about trying to find something to do.

B&N (in unison): I'm sorry.

They both laughed and walked toward each other. Bo grabbed her and they kissed.

B: I missed you!

N: We spent the whole day together!....Well, sorta (she laughed). Bo, I'm sorry if this comes as a shock to you, but it's how I feel.

B: It is a shock, Red. But we do need to discuss things. No holding back. I let that ruin my life once and I won't let it happen again. So, I guess the reason I'm hesitant is because I was thinking of talking to the mayor about the police commissioner job.

N: I see. And just how long have you been thinking of that?

Bo looked at the floor.

B: For a while I guess.

N: Uh-huh. Talk about not communicating! Bo, why didn't you tell me? And here all along I thought you were so happy with the agency.

B: I am happy with it. I love being home all day with you and the kids. But, there's no work coming in. We have to do something.

N: What did you plan on me doing?

B: Whatever you wanted - full time mom or lawyer and mom. It's up to you, honey.

N: Boy, we really blew this one! You think we would have learned by now. I think we've let this go too far now. How can we possibly agree to anything?

B: Nora, don't talk like that. We can work this out. Promise me you've really thought all this through. That it's something you really want to do.

N: Well, I think I have. If for some reason it doesn't work out, we can always come back to Llanview and start over again, right? As long as we're together!

B: That's a big if, honey. This is a life changing, life altering decision. And frankly, I don't know if I'm willing to do it.

N: Oh.

Bo walked up to her and took her in his arms.

B: Nora, I love you. You know that. But, I certainly don't think the answer to your boredom is to move to Texas. Why don't you and I go for a visit, maybe that would cheer you up?

N: No! I don't know, Bo. Why am I so confused? I love you and the kids more than anything. Why do I feel like I'm running away from something? This past year truly has been great. I don't know what's got me thinking of Texas.

B: I don't know either, honey. But, I think maybe you miss being a lawyer. We've worked together on a few things, but you've done only investigative work. You miss being in your element - in front of a judge, a jury, and your opponent.

Nora sighed and sat down on their bed. She ran her hand over the soft comforter and straightened and fluffed the pillows.

N: Perhaps you're right.

B: Think about it, Red. But, I'll talk to Pa if you want me to.

N: Right now I think I'd feel a whole lot better if you'd just lay with me here and hold me.

Bo smiled and joined her on the bed. She took that familiar position in his arms, her head on his chest. He gave her a reassuring squeeze on her shoulder and kissed the top of her head.

B: Better?

N: It's one of the best feelings in the world - being held in your arms. I love you, Bo.

B: I love you too, Nora. No doubt about that.

They spent the rest of the afternoon reminiscing about Texas and their reunion and then they fell asleep in each other's arms.
