Deep in the Heart of Texas - The Sequel - Part 6

A few days had passed and Nora never mentioned Texas again. She actually made some calls about dissolving the detective agency and searching out some new office space. Bo had talked to the Mayor and the Police Department about assuming his commissioner job again. The Mayor said the job was his if he wanted it, but he would have to wait three to six months for the current police commissioner to vacate the position.

On this particular day Bo was meeting Nora at her potential new office space. She was eager to start practicing again.

Nora excitedly showed him around the office. It was much larger than what she had had in the past, but she was thinking big. Bo was impressed.

N: So what do you think?

B: I'm very impressed.

N: You sound surprised.

B: No, not at all. I have full faith and confidence in you that you will have this place bustling in no time. Where are you going to put the couch and futon?

N: Futon? Why on earth would I have a futon?

Bo laughed and realized she didn't remember their beginnings that much.

B: Well, you were such a workaholic that at times you would sleep in your office, so you kept a futon mattress around. When we first started dating we put that mattress and your couch to very good use.

Nora smiled.

N: We did, did we?

B: Oh yeah and it was fun. You don't remember, huh?

N: Not so much, unfortunately.

B: That's okay. I love your new office and once you get your new couch, we'll make plenty of new memories.

N: Is that a promise?

B: That is a promise I won't let you forget.

N: Good!

Nora took Bo's hand and ran her finger over his wedding band.

N: I love you so much. I can't believe I've been robbed of my beautiful memories of being with you. It's not fair.

Bo took her in his arms and kissed her deeply. He caressed her hair and traced her face. He just loved touching her.

B: I have enough memories for the both of us. I'd be more than willing to relive them.

Nora laughed.

N: Do you mean you'd be willing to reenact each and every one from start to finish? I'm guessing that would take a long time.

B: I am ready, willing, and able - I think. (He laughed). I'm now an old guy with two kids. We have the rest of our lives to catch up, Red. No worries here.

N: Let's go. We can start at home. Whatta' say?

B: I say lead the way!

They met up at home in a little while. Matthew was at a friend's house and Rebecca was still asleep. They said goodbye to Mary Ann and sat down together on the couch. They immediately made contact by taking each other's hand.

N: It's good to be home! Bo, can I ask you something?

B: Sure. What is it?

N: Can we go to the ranch for a vacation? Like next week?

Bo was puzzled.

B: But, just a few days ago you said no when I suggested it.

N: I changed my mind. A girl can change her mind, can't she?

B: Sure honey. I don't know why I'm surprised. You change your mind all the time.

N: I do not!

B: Yes you do. But, that's fine. It's one of the things I love most about you.

N: Oh shut up! You're making fun of me again.

B: I am not! And I think shut up is a little rude, don't you?

N: No, I don't. In fact, I'm going to say it again - s-h-u-t u-p.

B: Make me.

With that, Nora pushed him down on the couch and they started to make out. They were rudely interrupted by the doorbell.

B: Ignore it.

N: It could be important.

Nora fixed her shirt and went to answer the door. It was the mailman with a certified letter addressed to Bo. His old address at the garret was crossed out, but the Llanview Post Office knew where to reach him.

B: Maybe it's a letter from the Mayor and the LPD to officially offer me the Police Commissioner job.

N: Probably is. Open it!

Nora was "distracting" Bo as he tore at the envelope and he never noticed there was no return address on it or that it was not an official envelope of any sort. He opened the letter and read it to himself.

N: Well! What does it say?

B: It's from Melanie.
