BO AND NORA'S HOUSE

Bo watched Matthew as he slept in his crib. He didn't want to leave his son's room, staying there the whole night, sleep wasn't an option. The house felt cold to Bo and he couldn't bring himself to go into his bedroom. All his thoughts were of Nora, their last words to each other, her eyes, her scent, the way she moved, the way she spoke, her. Bo stood up and walked over to the window as the phone began to ring for what seemed like the hundredth time that morning. Word was spreading about Nora's unfortunate death and Bo was in no mood to deal with the world. He continued to think about Nora until he heard his name being called.

Bo: Nora? Bo turned around to see Viki standing in the doorway. Viki.
Viki: Bo...I'm so sorry. She walked over to him slowly and hugged him tightly. I hope I
didn't startle you, I called earlier, but you didn't pick up and I rang the doorbell.
Bo: I didn't hear it.
Viki: Oh, well the door was unlocked and I just thought... Viki trailed off.
Bo: Viki, thanks for your concern but I'm not going to do anything crazy. I have to look
out for Matthew.
Viki: That's right. She smiled and looked into the crib. How are you holding up?
Bo: I don't know. Bo sat down in the rocker. I just want to hold her so badly.
Viki: I know honey, I know. Viki said quietly. Have you gotten any sleep at all?
Bo: Huh? No. I can't sleep. Every time I close my eyes I see Nora's face. God Viki! Why'd
it have to be her? Why did Asa have to hit her?
Viki: It was an accident Bo. He would never hurt Nora intentionally.
Bo: Well he did! Bo yelled, causing Matthew to wake up. Oh, hey there Matt, I'm sorry.
Matthew let out a small whine
Viki: Bo... She attempted to calm him down. you have a lot that you need to handle
today.
Bo: What?
Viki: Well, Nora's parents....they don't know do they?
Bo: No. Bo said quietly as he picked his son up. I guess I have to make the arrangements
and everything huh?
Viki: Would you like me to make some phone calls for you?
Bo: No, no thank you Viki. I'll do that. I have to tell Nora's parents that she's.....
He trailed off.
Viki: Bo, would you like me to take Matthew off your hands for a day or so?
Bo: I can't ask you to do that. Matthew tasted his fingers.
Viki: You aren't asking. I know how hard it is to lose the person you love most in the
world. You need some time alone.
Bo: I don't know. Bo answered reluctantly. I guess, for a few hours.
Viki: Good. Viki smiled reassuringly. You know, it does get better.
Bo: The last time anything like this happened to me Viki I had Nora there to help me pick
up the pieces. She's my anchor. And now, I just feel like I'm just drifting.
Viki: Well you aren't drifting alone. We all miss Nora terribly and your friends are more
than willing to help. The phone began to ring again. Would you like me to get that?
Bo: No, I'm not in the mood to speak to anyone.
Viki: Bo...
Bo: Thanks a lot for offering to take Matthew. I really appreciate it. Bo
interrupted his long time friend. Uh, he should be hungry soon, and Nora feeds
him.....bottles and stuff and uh, he always has a late night feeding. Bo starts
collecting Matthew's things and placing them in a box. Oh, yea, watch out for his
diapers, it's just one big trick.
Viki: Bo honey. Viki held his shoulders. It will be okay. You'll see.

Bo and Viki finished packing Matthew's bag and Bo walked Viki to the door.

Viki: If you need anything call me immediately.
Bo: Thanks. Bo gave Viki a small smile before she left. Bo waved at a confused Matthew.

Bo closed the door behind her and leaned up against the door. So now what do I do? Bo walked over to the fireplace mantle and picked up a recent photo of him and Nora. Nora had insisted that they get a new picture taken of them when they had gotten back together. Bo laughed at the memory, they couldn't decide on a pose so Nora squeezed his face up like a chipmunk and kissed him on the cheek as the photographer snapped his camera. Why'd you have to leave me Nora? Why now? Bo hugged the photo until he heard the doorbell ring.

Bo: I'm coming. Bo said quietly. He took a deep breath and opened the door. Bo frowned
at the sight of Sam standing at the door. What do you want?
Sam: Uh, I just heard about the accident. Sam said quietly with blood-shot eyes. I'm
sorry pal.
Bo: Sympathy noted.
Sam: Look Bo, I know I'm probably the last person you want to see right now.
Bo: Or ever.
Sam: But I know how you feel.
Bo: You know how I'm feeling? Hmm. For some reason I don't think you do! Did you just
lose your wife? No, so don't give me that bull about you knowing how I feel.
Sam: This was clearly a bad idea. Bo nodded.
I just thought that there might be something that I could do. I loved Nora
too and I know this is hard on you.
Bo: You know, there are some things in this world that you can't do. Although there
is one thing that you are very good at.
Sam: And that is?
Bo: Trying to destroy a marriage.
Sam: I understand that you are still upset with me, so I'll just leave. Sam turned to
leave.
Bo: No you wanted to help. Sam stopped. Let's talk about feelings. You said you
know what I'm feeling. Let me ask you if you know what it feels like to hold her
and when every breathe that she takes hurts? Do you know what it's like to beg
for her to hold on to life? Sam stared at the ground. Didn't think so.
Sam: What do you want to do Bo? You want to hit me? If that's going to make you feel
better or ease the pain then you go right on ahead and swing.

Bo thought about it before thoughts of what Nora's reaction would be came rushing to him. I would never hear the end of it. Bo quickly remembered that she would never know. Bo shook off Sam's offer, but didn't want to let him off.

Bo: I don't think Nora would want that.
Sam: I know it doesn't mean much coming from me, but I really am sorry.
Bo: Yea, are you sorry for keeping me and Nora apart for so long?
Sam: I don't want to get into this with you right now.
Bo: Yea, because you don't come out on top is that it?
Sam: You're upset, you don't want to do this.
Bo: You know what I'd like to do? Bo stepped towards Sam, forgetting his previous
reservations. I'd like to...
Hank: Bo! Hank ran up between Sam and Bo. You okay? Bo glared at Sam then looked at
Hank before walking back into the house. Sam, thanks for stopping by.
Sam: Yea.

Sam looked at Bo, who was pacing in front of the couch, before leaving. Hank closed the door behind him.

Bo: Can you believe the nerve of that guy?
Bo finally said. Nora and I would have never split up if he hadn't come into town.
Hank: Bo....
Bo: All those months apart. Do you know that we were planning a night alone, we hadn't
really had a night all to ourselves since we got back together. Bo sat down on the couch
and looked at the picture once again. She was singing to me over the phone when Asa
hit her.
Hank: Oh man. Hank sat down next to him. I don't know what to say.
Bo: For once. Bo wiped away a tear. How is Rachel doing? I haven't spoken to her.
Hank: She's a wreck, like we all are. How are you holding up buddy?
Bo: How am I supposed to be doing?
Hank: Well everyone is worried about you. I've been calling all morning and I know Asa
has...
Bo: I don't want to talk to Asa.
Hank: Bo, he's worried sick about you.
Bo: Yea well he'll get over it.
Hank: He didn't mean it.
Bo: Hank, did you come over here to be a mouth piece for Asa? Because if you did then you
can just leave right now.
Hank: Hey, calm down. I just came by to see if you needed any help with Matthew.
Bo: Uh, no. Viki already beat you to the punch.
Hank: Oh. Well then do you need me to make some phone calls for you?
Bo: No. Thanks for the offer. I have to do this.
Hank: Okay. You know, I never thought that Nora wouldn't be here driving everyone
nuts. Hank smiles and turns off a lamp, noticing that all the lights were on. Uh Bo,
it's ten in the morning, why are all these lights on?
Bo: Uh, they've been on all night. I can't turn them off, all that darkness.....
Hank: When Nora and I moved into our first apartment, Hank tried to lighten the
mood. We were saving every penny we had so Nora would go around turning off all the
lights to save money. I would leave the room for two minutes, come back and the
light would be off. I kept running into chairs and tables, I had more bruises those
months. Hank started to laugh. She said it built character.
Bo: Sounds like her. Bo smiled weakly. Hank, I'm okay, really. I just need some time
alone.
Hank: Are you sure?
Bo: Yea, go on. Hank stood up. I know you want to go see Rachel.
Hank: You're right about that. I'll stop by later all right? Bo walked with Hank over
to the door.
Bo: Yea.

Bo and Hank hugged before Hank left. Bo walked over to the desk and pulled out his personal phone book. He flipped the pages until he got to Len and Selma Hanen. Bo's fingers trembled as he dialed the number.

Len: Hello?
Bo: Uh, Mr. Hanen? Bo asked quietly.
Len: Yes.
Bo: This is Bo.
Len: Bo! How are you son? Len said cheerfully. I didn't recognize your voice,
especially when you are being so formal. You don't have to call me Mr. Hanen, Your
Honor will be just fine. He chuckled.
Bo: Sorry.
Len: Bo, what's wrong? You sound a little shaky. Is Nora all right? Bo was silent.
What's wrong with my little girl?
Bo: There was an accident.
Len: How is she?
Bo: The impact of the other car.....it caused a lot of internal bleeding and uh. Bo
stammered. The doctors, they worked on her....they tried, Bo began to cry.
Len: Oh God no.
Bo: She, she passed away last night. Bo struggled to regain his composure.
Len: Who did this? Len finally said after a long silence. Do you know?
Bo: Yes. It was....the other driver was Asa Buchanan.
Len: Asa Buch...isn't he your father? Bo...
Before Len could finish Bo heard Selma's voice in the background asking why Len was
crying. Selma, sweetheart, sit down. Bo, I need to call you back.
Bo: I know. I'm sorry to have to tell you this.
Len: I'm sorry too. Len said quietly before hanging up the phone.

Bo hung up the phone and held his head in his hands. The silence soon began to bother Bo and he quickly turned on the radio. As the DJ's voice filled the house Bo went over to the couch and laid down. When A Man Loves A Woman began to play causing Bo to shut his eyes tight. Thoughts of them dancing to the song caused Bo to smile when he heard his name being called. Bo slowly opened his eyes to see Nora standing over him.

Bo: Nora?! I don't believe it. He grabbed his wife. Am I dreaming?
Nora: Uh, I don't think so. I think you were though.
Bo: What?
Nora: I've been calling you for like five minutes Bo. Nora said, slightly confused.
Bo: You have? Bo slowly sat up.
Nora: Yea. Remember, this is our big night alone. I just spent ten minutes convincing
Asa to wait until tomorrow to come talk to you.
Bo: Wait a minute.
Nora: What?
Bo: You're alive.
Nora: Yes Bo. What is the matter with you?
Bo: Nothing. Everything is just perfect! Bo hugged Nora tightly.
Nora: Uh Bo, why wouldn't I be alive? What kind of dream did you have?
Bo: It was awful honey, I had this huge fight with Asa and he hit.... Bo stopped
abruptly, staring at Nora's face.
Nora: What? What is it?
Bo: You're just so beautiful.
Nora: Well, Nora smiled shyly. You're not so bad yourself. Bo kisses Nora gently.
Bo...
Bo: I never want to lose you again.
Nora: Good, because I'm not going anywhere.
Nora studied Bo's face. That dream really must have been something.
Bo: And that's just what it was.
Nora: You said that Asa was in it. What'd he hit?
Bo: You know what, I really don't want to talk about some dream. Bo changed moods. The
only thing that I want to do is... Bo whispers in Nora's ear causing her to giggle.
Nora: Well I don't know Mr. Buchanan, that seems like that might take a while.
Bo: I've got time. What about you? Bo begin to kiss Nora's neck.
Nora: Uh huh, yea, I.....I definitely have time.

Bo and Nora start to kiss passionately. Nora stands up and pulls Bo up by his collar,
leading him towards the stairs.

Bo: I love you Nora. That'll never change.
Nora: I love you too Bo. I love you too.
Bo: Good, because I'm never letting you go!
Bo picks Nora up, throwing her over his shoulder as Nora screams, and runs
upstairs.

Bo puts Nora on the bed as she laughs harder. Bo kisses Nora as she wraps her arms around him, their kisses becoming more passionate with each one. Bo and Nora made love well into the night, Bo quickly forgetting about his nightmare.

THE END
HAPPY NOW!!!
