AFTERMATH - PART 2
Setting: Nora's house
Bo at the door
Bo: Nora, can we talk?
Nora (juggling Matthew to her other hip): Yes, come in.
Nora puts Matthew down and he heads back for his toys on the floor.
N: Let me take your coat.
Bo gives her his coat and she goes to put it in the closet, but as she opens the door, she remembers the rod broke.
N: Oh well, forget that (she says
laughing).
B: What happened there?
N: It broke the other day. Every thing in this house is falling
apart. Sit down Bo.
Matthew is still playing on the floor.
B: Wow, he's gotten so big. He's a
beautiful boy.
N: Thank You. I can't believe it, he'll be one in a few days.
Seems like yesterday.
Matthew toddles up to Bo and just stares at him.
B: Hey Matthew, how ya' doin' buddy?
Matthew just giggles at him and hangs onto his leg.
B: He gets around pretty good huh?
N: Oh yeah, he's into everything now.
Matthew starts handing Bo some toys.
N: Well Bo, he seems to like you.
Nora notices a resemblance between Bo and Matthew. It reminds her of pictures she'd seen of Bo as a child. She quickly chalks it up to her wild imagination.
N: So, Bo, what do you want to talk
about?
B: Hank tells me Sam left you.
N: Gee, word travels fast. Yes, he's moved out. Did Hank tell
you why he's gone?
B: Yes. That's what stumps me.
N: What do you mean?
B: He said that he had been keeping Lindsay's secret and (he pauses)
that you are in love with me.
Nora gets up and starts to pace around the room, running her fingers through her hair.
N: Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy.
B: Nora, is this true?
N: I need to explain.
B: Please do, because I don't know what the hell is going on.
In the meantime, Matthew is all over Bo - tugging at him, throwing toys, and Bo doesn't even realize that he slid onto the floor and is playing blocks with him.
Nora turns to see the two of them on the floor. Bo is smiling and talking to Matthew. Again, her mind runs away to a place where this scene is just a typical day at their house and Nora is getting ready to say I love you Bo, like any other day in their life. She snaps back to reality.
N: This isn't helping.
B: What isn't?
N: Seeing you two together.
B: Oh sorry, I didn't mean to...
N: No, that's not it Bo. It's just that this is what we should
be - you two together - us as a family - in our home. Not the
charade I'd apparently been living with Sam. He knew Bo, he knew.
He knew months ago what Lindsay did to us and he didn't tell me.
He's been lying to me just as Lindsay lied to you. And you know
why? Because he is guilty. Sam knows that he set out to break
up our happy life together when he came to Llanview and
B: Nora,
N: And he's trying to blame me now. I can see this very clearly
Bo. But I fell for it. I never would have turned to him if Lindsay
had not changed the tests. He took advantage of me when I was
at my lowest. Instead of being my friend, he was this lovesick
guy acting out on his 20 year obsession.
B: Nora, slow down.
N: No, let me finish. So after you and I broke up, I felt so alone
and Sam made me feel so needed and wanted. I
thought I was in love, but I wasn't and I'm not. Yes, he was there
for me all this time and yes, he's Matthew's father, but there
is all this love inside of me for you - for you Bo. I realized
all of this after I almost lost you in the warehouse. I meant
what I said. I can't live without you. I don't know what to do
about it because I know you don't feel the same about me.
Bo gets up from the floor and sits back on the couch.
B: I think I need a drink.
Just then the doorbell rings. It's Mary Ann to take Matthew for his usual play time in the park.
N: OK Mary Ann, here's all his stuff. She kisses him goodbye.
As they head for the door, Matthew runs back to Bo.
B: Whoa there buddy, I'll see you later. He hugs him.
N (surprised at Matthew's behavior):
See, I told you he likes you. She sends him back to Mary Ann.
B (looking sad) He sure is a cute little guy. Now I really need
a drink.
