BABY MAKES THREE - THE FINAL CHAPTER
A week later, Bo leaves to go to the station for the day. Sam ducks down in his car as he watches Bo pass by.
He gets out of his car and heads for the door. He rings the doorbell.
N: Sam! It's so great to see you. How are you?
S: I'm fine Nora. How are you? And Matthew? You look great.
N: Thank you. We are both fine. He's a wonderful baby. He's sleeping right now or I would introduce you to him.
S: Well, I'm sure we'll meet another time.
N (laughs): I'm sure you will. Would you like some coffee?
S: Is Bo here?
N: No, he'll be at the station all day. A new string of robberies has them stumped. Coffee?
S: Sure that would be great.
Nora gets them some coffee and cake.
S: Nora, Bo came to see me last week.
N: I know. He told me. Sam, I tried to convince him that the card was a silly mistake.
S: I know. I did too, but he wouldn't listen to me.
Just then, Matthew starts to cry. Nora goes upstairs to get him.
N: Here he is! And he's hungry.
S: There's my boy....uh, your boy.
Nora lets the remark pass.
S: He's beautiful Nora. Looks just like you.
N: Thank you.
S: You know, he should be our child.
N: Excuse me?
S: Nora, if we never broke up...If you followed me to Tahiti....He would be our son.
N: Sam, that was 20 years ago. Bo is the love of my life. I couldn't be happier. You know that, don't you? Besides, you have two great kids of your own.
S: But I wanted you to have my children. You - not Lindsay.
N: We've discussed this before. Our relationship, if you could call it that, was over long ago. It was just a mere coincidence that we met up again. You've got to get past this. I'll be right back, I have to change Matthew's diaper.
Nora goes upstairs to their bedroom and calls Bo.
B: Buchanan.
N: Hi honey, it's me.
B: Hey beautiful, how are you? How's Matt?
N: We're fine. Bo, promise me you won't freak out.
B: What's going on Nora?
N: Promise me.
B: All right, I promise I won't freak out. What's going on?
N: Sam is here and he's acting very strange.
B: WHAT? What's he doing? Nora, I'll kill him.
N: Calm down. He's talking about our past and stuff like that.
B: I'm coming right home.
N: Bo, I don't think that's necessary.
But all she hears is dial tone. She changes Matthew's diaper.
Sam locks the front door, the back door and the sliding glass doors.
S: Nora, is everything okay?
N: Coming, everything's fine. We are all changed and refreshed.
She comes back downstairs trying to act as normal and as calm as possible.
N: I know, why don't we go for a walk in the park?
She heads to the door, but Sam cuts her off.
S: I don't think so.
N: Sam, please don't do this. You are going to ruin your life. Bo knows you are here. He's on his way.
S: NO! You and Matthew are my family now. Let's run away together.
N: You know that is not possible. You've got to relax Sam, please. You are scaring me.
S: I don't mean to scare you. I won't do anything to harm you or Matthew.
N: I want to believe you, but I've never seen you like this.
S: I'm fine! Now sit down!
They both hear the screech of tires in the driveway. Bo is not alone. They hear at least six car doors slam.
B: OPEN THE DOOR RAPPAPORT! NOW!
N: Bo! I'm frightened.
S: Shut up!
Matthew starts to cry from all the yelling.
N: Oh, it's okay sweetie, mommy is here.
S: Daddy is here too Matthew. Me, I'm your daddy.
B: Sam, if you touch one hair on either of them, I'll kill you!
S: Nora is with me now. She's knows I won't hurt them. You best leave, so we can go away together.
B: The house is surrounded. You won't get out alive. Open the door now and you won't get hurt.
S: No! You leave and then we'll come out.
B: Nora, is he armed?
N: Not that I can tell.
S: Oh yes I am. (He pulls out a revolver from his back pocket.)
N: Oh my god! Sam! How could you do
this to me? (She clings to Matthew for dear life.)
Please, let me put him upstairs in his nursery. It's me you want.
S: No! I want both of you.
B: Let her bring the baby upstairs - please!
S: Shut up! I'm his father. I won't hurt him....Nora take our son upstairs.
Nora runs upstairs and puts Matthew down. She's afraid to leave him, but she knows she has to try to talk some sense into Sam. She locks the nursery door, removes the key from the door frame and hides it in her bra.
B: Sam, open the door and you won't get hurt.
Bo's patience is running thin. He confers with John Sykes, and the other officers about what they should do. Bo suddenly remembers, the outside basement entry!
B: The basement! I always forget to lock the outside doors. It's got to be open.
They run over to the doors and they are unlocked.
B: I'm going in.
N: Sam, let's talk about this.
S: Nora, I love you so much. I want us to be together as a family.
N: Sam, I love you too; but as my friend. Bo is my husband. Matthew is our son.
S: NO! I am your husband and Matthew is my son.
Bo creeps up the stairs very quietly, he exits out into the kitchen. From what he can tell Sam is right outside the kitchen door and Nora is near the stairs or the front door.
Sykes is now talking to Sam to get his attention away from Nora.
S: Where's Bo?
Sykes: He's too distraught Sam. I had to take over for him. He wanted to bust the door down and he's got an itchy trigger finger. You don't want that, do you Sam?
N: John is right Sam. Bo isn't kidding when he's this angry.
S: Doesn't he know I won't hurt you? He's the crazy one!
Nora notices the kitchen door move. She sees Bo flash his badge through the door. A tremendous sense of relief falls over her. Bo is in the house!
She knows she has to keep Sam talking and occupied so he doesn't see or hear Bo. She moves behind the couch. Sam's eyes following her there.
N: Sam, where do you want us to go? Back to Chicago? Those were some good old days, weren't they?
S: Nora, they were wonder.....
Bo busts through the kitchen door, knocking Sam to the floor and the gun out of his hands. Nora grabs the gun. Bo lands on Sam, shoving a knee into his back.
B: John! I've got him and Nora's got the gun.
Nora runs to the door and opens it. Sykes and Bo drag Sam up and slap the handcuffs on him.
Nora runs into Bo's arms. He holds her tight.
S: NORA! NORA! DON'T LET THEM DO THIS TO ME! I LOVE YOU!
Nora buries her face in Bo's shoulder.
B: GET HIM OUT OF MY HOUSE! NOW!
B: You're safe now. Are you okay? Is Matthew okay?
N: I'm fine and Matthew's fine. I'm just shaken. I locked the nursery door in case Sam went up there. Let me go get him.
Nora goes upstairs to get Matthew. Bo walks to the door and watches as Sam is thrown in the squad car.
Sykes comes up to Bo.
J: Everyone okay?
B: Yeah, thanks. Nora is a little shaken. She did a great job of distracting Sam.
J: Yes, she did. It turns out the gun wasn't loaded...just used it as a scare tactic.
B: Well, it worked....the bastard. He's lucky, just very lucky.
J: Oh yeah! I wouldn't want to have been in his shoes. Well, we're outta here Bo. See you later. Glad everyone is fine.
B: Thanks, John - for everything.
Nora comes downstairs, after hearing their discussion.
N: Here's daddy. Matthew, you are just like your daddy - the strong, silent type. He slept through the whole thing.
Nora hands him to Bo.
B: There's my boy. (He hugs him and kisses him)
N: Bo, I'm sorry. I really never thought Sam would be capable of anything like this.
B: Nora, this is in no way your fault, honey. I don't want to hear anything like that from you again. The guy is psycho. That's not your problem.
N: Well, I just feel like....
B: Enough! No more. Come here.
They have a big group hug ;-)
B: I'm just thankful that you both are safe.
N: My hero!
B: Super Bo at your service ma'am.
N: Mmmm, at my service huh? For anything.
B: Anything.
N: Race ya' upstairs!
B: Right behind you, Red!
THE END :-)
