Body and Soul- Part I

This is a continuation to my first finished fan fiction- “Hearing is Believing”

Today was the day, release day, and Nora could not be happier. She was so sick and tired of hospital food and getting woken up at all hours for pokes here and prods there. All she wanted to do was go home, yes, home to Matthew and to her own bed. After she signed her release papers Rachel wheeled her to the car, not because she couldn’t walk, but because that was hospital policy. As a matter of fact, Nora had recovered almost fully and now only had to return on an outpatient basis, everyone agreed, she had been very lucky.

“Mom, can you get into the car OK?”

“Yeah, honey, if I need to I can dance to the car, but actually I’d rather sprint!” Nora said with a mischievous look on her face.

“Alright smarty, I know you’re getting better but don’t push your luck. Hey, I though Matthew would be here after all he hasn’t really left your side since this whole thing started, what does he have a hot date or something?” Rachel smiled.

“Not funny Rach, no actually he’s helping Bo get the Garret back together. After Paige moved out they had to take a lot out of storage to get the place back to normal again.”

“Wow, I still can’t believe this all about Paige and the fact that she’s out on bail. Killing a man is no small potatoes.”

“Well she shed enough light on David that they still think it was her but they can’t be sure. Don’t worry Bo and I both have restraining orders against her. She won’t be a problem, I just think Spencer had it coming anyway, she was just the one who got there first.”

“Don’t tell me you’re taking up for her? Paige was really horrible mom, she tried to replace you. She’s really a sick person.” Rachel was clearly disgusted.

All Nora could think about was being alive. She let herself drift back to several weeks ago when she and Bo sat in her room pouring theirs souls out to one another. Was it simply a moment of weakness or did everything they said mean more? She couldn’t be sure because lately Bo had been too busy playing super dad and top cop that she had barely seen him. It seemed that the night in her room was a sheer fantasy sometimes. It wasn’t that he was rude or dismissive to her, in fact he was quite warm and caring, just like a friend would be. Nora was just so happy to have a new lease on life, maybe she would have to settle for just a friendship with Bo, hey, it was better than nothing.

“Mom? Earth to Nora?” Rachel was staring at her, the car was now stationary in her driveway. “Where have you been?”

“Oh honey I’m sorry I must have drifted off, I guess I’m in a daze. Maybe I need to take a nap or something” Nora lied, but she couldn’t tell Rachel the truth, she wouldn’t understand.

“Let’s get you inside then. I’ll draw you a nice hot bath and make you some dinner, then you can sleep in your own bed. How does that sound?”

“Huh? Oh that sounds good” Nora wasn’t really listening, why couldn’t she stop thinking about Bo? That’s it, she was going to enjoy this time with Rachel and just relax. Her friendship with Bo could wait.

Rachel walked in the front door and just stopped in her tracks, “oh my gosh!”

“What? What’s wrong?” Nora hurried as fast as she could to get a peek at what had her daughter in a state of shock.

Nora got to Rachel’s side and could not believe the sight in front of her eyes. The whole living room was full of flowers of all types and so many colors! Nora crossed into the living room and found a card on the coffee table. In an instant she recognized Bo’s handwriting. “Red, Flower bills like this aren’t cheap, please don’t ever scare me like that again!” The card was not signed but there was no mistaking the card or the gesture had Bo’s MO all over it.

“Are all of these from Bo?” Rachel asked hardly holding back her shock. She had no idea that her mom and Bo had such a relationship again but also recognized the gesture as something that Bo would do.

“Uh huh” Nora said, and that was all she could get out.

“Well Mom, looks like you and Bo may have hope yet.”

All Nora could do was stare at her, huge smile pasted on her face, thinking to herself that maybe for the first time in a long time that hope was possible.
