Body and Soul- Part II

It had been a week and a half since Nora had come home to her living room filled with flowers courtesy of Bo. She had been keeping busy with Matthew but she still thought of Bo often. She wondered why he didn’t call and why he had been so distant after such a sweet gesture.

Police Station:

Bo sat in his office staring at the mixed up mess this Spencer Truman homicide had turned into when John knocked on his door.

“Enter!” he shouted as John poked his head in.

“Busy boss?” John said with a knowing look on his face. This case had been trying for him as well but finding out who really murdered his father was very freeing at the same time.

“No, John, I’m sorry come one in. I’m just trying to figure out to close this sucker so I can spend some much overdue time with Matt. It’s just that Paige kept changing her story and by dragging Vickers into it, well that just made it even worse.”

“I know this has got to hard on you Bo, and Matthew too but I think now that Paige has signed an official confession and has been carted to Statesville, it should get better is all I’m saying. I guess I’m just being pretty selfish, I’m just happy that I can lay my father to rest in peace.” John said this knowing that he would always miss his dad, but at least he could be free to live his life and stop watching others live all around him.

“Matt seems to be handling things pretty well, I think mostly because Nora is better, but if anything would have happened to her…” Bo trailed off not even wanting to let that thought enter his mind again. Even though he hadn’t spoken to her in a week or so he still thought that the flowers would be a nice starting point in exploring possibilities between them. “Matt’s summer vacation will be coming up in about a week and I have some time coming between this case and the Killing Club thing.”

“Bo, if I’ve learned anything from this it is to cease the day. If I had some more time with my dad I would for sure and I’m sure you would do the same with Drew.”
John hoped he hadn’t stepped over the line with the last comment.

“John, hey, don’t, you didn’t say anything that I don’t think about every day. I think that making things right with Nora and making a family with Matthew will finally put Drew to rest too, which is something I needed to do a long time ago.”

John was relieved, “Well, you know what, I can file those and sift through the rest if you want to go hang out with your son.”

Bo’s smile grew, “really? John that would so nice and maybe I can stop being such a scardy cat and get the nerve up to ask Nora out in the right way, face-to-face.
Do you think she’ll say yes?” Bo asked with expectancy that John had never remembered seeing in his boss’s face before, he was amused.

“Well Bo, you never can tell, but I think you have a fighting chance! Now get going before I change my mind!” John was trying not to laugh as Bo grabbed his coat and moved with such quickness, he’d never seen him as happy.

Nora’s House:

Maryann was sitting in the living room with Matthew trying to learn a new Happy Potter game and failing miserably.

“No, Maryann, you have to hit that to disappear, no, no! Well you still have 2 more lives left, you are doing a little better though.” Matthew lied but he felt bad, he was actually trying not to laugh. He had never seen someone let their whole body move with the controller.

The door cracked open and as soon as Matthew saw Bo he threw his controller on the couch and ran into his dad’s arms. This was a ritual that Bo would never get used to or could get enough of. “Hey dad, I’ve missed you! Did you get done with that big case you were working on?”

“Yeah bud, hey Maryann!” Maryann waved as she left the room to let the father and son team talk alone. “You understand son that Paige is not going to be a part of our lives anymore right?” Bo was now nervous of his son’s possible reaction.

“Yeah, I got that when I saw mom’s whole house filled with flowers and she said they were from you. I also read the paper about Paige. She lied dad, and for that I can’t feel that bad about her going to jail I’m just sorry for you because I know you liked her a lot.”

“You just keep getting more and more grown up huh? I’m very proud of you Matt, and yes she does deserve to be in jail. Hey, where’s your mom? I hope she didn’t already go back to the office.” Bo was excited to ask Nora out because he had worked on the plan and the rebuttals to all of her possible refusals on the way over to the house.

“Oh, didn’t you get her message? She went back to Chicago with Rachel for the week. She talked to John after she left the message and he told her that you took the next couple of weeks off so she didn’t think you would mind. She’s gonna call when they land. I think she missed her mom and dad.”

“Oh” was all Bo could get out and even Matthew could pick up on his disappointment.

“Do you not want to watch me dad?” Matthew asked confused.

“No, no son that’s not it at all, you know what why don’t you tell Maryann that we’re gonna get out of here. I’m gonna take you to my house and next week when you’re out of school a fishin’ we will go. How does that sound?”

“Oh dad that’s awesome, I’ll be right back I just have to grab my bookbag and suitcase.”

Matthew ran from the room and up the stairs.

“Well Nora, a lot of good that did” Bo made a mental note to thank John for this even though he knew that John couldn’t help but be honest. “I guess we got our wires crossed again, when will we ever get that fighting chance John seems to think we have?” Bo thought to himself as he fell into the couch clearly disappointed. He lay his head back and sighed in frustration. “Someday, maybe, I guess.”
