Body and Soul- Part III

Bo and Matthew hit the road early the next morning for the Buchanan cabin. Matthew was so excited about the aspect of getting away, just the guys, all by himself that Bo didn’t see a problem with him skipping the last couple days of school. After all, picnic day and “bring your own movie as long as it had a G rating” day was something that Bo didn’t feel Matthew would be too upset by missing.

Buchanan Cabin:

“Well son let’s get ourselves settled in and then we’ll go cast out before it gets dark.” Bo said as he emptied the rest of his truck on to the oversized front porch.
Matthew lugged the rest of his gear through the large oak door and dropped it on the floor in front of the staircase. “That sounds awesome dad! I ‘ll race you to the docks! Last one there is a rotten egg.” Off Matthew went through the bushes in the general direction of the fishing dock.

Bo couldn’t help but be reminded of how much Matthew was like Nora in that way, very competitive and always so full of energy. That was why it had been so hard for him to see her in the coma since he had very rarely been the one to get the last word in their relationship. Now that she was better he found himself wishing that she were here to fish with them. Although, he quickly was taken back in time to when he went fishing with her years ago. She had made such a big deal about the dead fish and even now the thought filled him with such warmth. Why had he forgotten how special she was to him?

“Never again, Nora, I will never forget again if I could just get a chance” Bo said out loud as he slammed the truck door. “Never again”. He was off to the dock to join Matthew and never saw that his cell phone was vibrating.

Chicago:

Nora was enjoying her time with Rachel and her parents but she really regretted that Matthew couldn’t be there with her. After all, he did miss so much time with her and vice versa when she was sick. She knew that it was more important to let him finish his school year with his friends and she would have the whole summer with him. She also thought about Bo and why hadn’t he called her? He must have found out sometime yesterday about her impromptu trip to Chicago. Was he angry that she hadn’t called him first or maybe he was still busy at work or running around with Matt.

“Mom, hey, where’d you go?” asked Rachel once again keenly aware of her mother’s little mental vacations.

“Oh, honey I’m sorry. I was just thinking about Matthew. I tried to call Bo but he didn’t answer at home or on his cell. I was going to try the office but I think maybe he might be too busy right now.” Nora said.

“Mom, I’m sure Bo would make time for you. In case you haven’t noticed he did send you like 14 dozen roses and lillies, and tulips, and ….”

“OK, Rachel I get what you’re saying but I do respect how busy he is and with this Paige case wrapping up I guess I feel like he needs some recovery time from being hurt. That’s why I think it was kind of insensitive of me just to take off like I did even though daddy was having some testing.”

“Mom, you deserve a break and plus Matt will keep Bo’s mind off of Paige believe me. You act like she was some great love of his life. No way was that the case. You forget I saw them interact when you were in the coma, he was much more concerned about you.”

“Rachel, lets just get home to mama and daddy and we can have dinner together before they have to get to sleep.” Nora said trying to change the subject.

“Um, ok, but I’m not letting this Bo thing drop. I have been angry at him in the past but there’s no denying that he still cares and you have got to stop being so scared of that.”

“Spoken like a great lawyer, I wonder where you got that from?” Nora said with a laugh.

The two women walked arm and arm back to the car talking and laughing. By the time Nora thought to call Bo it was well past 10PM and she knew Matt would be in bed and even though it was Friday and the last day of school for him she still didn’t want to disturb them. She curled up in what used to be her childhood bed and drifted to sleep thinking about what Rachel had said. “Did she have a point?” Nora wondered out loud before letting sleep fall over her.

Buchanan Cabin:

“How dumb could you be Buchanan? You forget your cell phone in the car. What if Nora tried to call and you would’ve missed it.” Bo stomped out to the truck, pulling the door open he grabbed his phone.

“Damn! One message. He looked though the missed call list there was Nora’s cell phone number. He dialed the automated message service and listened.

“Hey, Bo… uh this is Nora, well of course, it’s not like you didn’t know that. OK well I guess you know by now that I’m in Chicago and I’m gonna be back in a couple of days. I hope this is OK. If not please call me and I’ll come home right away because I know how busy you are at work. Anyway, I wanted to be here because daddy is having some testing done but they don’t think it’s anything serious so don't worry OK? Well I’ll see you soon. Tell Matt I love him very much! Take care Bo.”

Bo couldn’t believe he missed her call. She must still think that they are in Llanview. She must not have talked to MaryAnn yet. He tried to call her but her phone was dead. “Typical Nora, never charges her phone.” Bo said out loud with a smile.

Bo headed in the cabin and up the stairs. Tomorrow he would call Nora at Len and Selma’s and clear this up. He lay in bed thinking about how stupid he had been to let her out of his life. Instead of thinking about it any longer he was resolved to do something. “When I get home, I will make Nora Hanan see how much she really means to me.” Bo smiled and turned over. His plan would be difficult but it would have to work.
