Body and Soul- Part V

Bo was pulling into a parking lot near to Angel Square when he heard it, the best sound he thought he had ever heard.

“Mom! Hey, it’s Matthew. Can you hear me mom? Yeah I’m safe, I’m with dad and we’re just getting back to Llanview. Where are you, are you OK?” Matthew paused to get the answers to his questions. Bo turned into a spot and gestured to Matt that he wanted to talk with Nora. God he was glad to hear from her especially since she never has her phone charged and through this storm he was glad there was even service. This was truly a miracle that she was on the other line like none of this had happened. Bo was jarred from his thoughts by Matthew’s voice.

“Dad? Hey, did you hear me?”

Bo shook his head and realized that Matthew was holding Bo’s phone trying to give it back to him. “Matt why didn’t you let me talk to mom?” Bo said getting irritated.

“I told you, she is at the hospital and she wants us there now, she says it’s important!” Matthew was now the one who was irritated. “Dad! Let’s go now!”

Bo started the truck and put it into gear as he pulled out of the lot toward Llanview General he was hoping nothing was wrong with Nora or anyone else he cared for. “Matt, did mom say what was wrong? I have to check in with the station eventually but I guess I’ll just call on the cell.”

“No she just said it was really important, the reception wasn’t very good. The phone kept crackling.” Matthew said absentminded while he looked at the wreckage out the passenger side window.

Llanview General:

Bo and Matthew rushed into the ED where they were greeted with a mass of people. Nora made her way toward Matthew and Bo looking very tired but Bo had never seen her look more beautiful. He smiled at her and his smile was returned with a look of almost sympathy. “Bo, hey I’m gonna take Matt out of here for a minute. Kevin, Viki, and Clint are down the hall to the left. They really need you. Have you checked in to the station yet?” Nora said, all of her questions running together.

“Yeah, but they said John had it under control. I guess even Antonio is helping out down there delegating authority which I said would be fine until I get there. Is everyone OK?”

“Just go talk to Clint and Viki, they will fill you in and you can find Matt and I just outside in the garden, or what used to be the garden” Nora said with a sigh. She gave Bo a quick hug that told him to brace himself and turned to leave holding Matthews hand and trying to keep the lid on his outpouring of questions, Bo assumed, until they reached the outside. Whatever happened it couldn’t be good. Bo turned and walked toward the spot Nora said his family would be waiting, holding his breath the whole way.

By the end of the day Bo had learned that his nephew had been killed in the tornado, that his father was doing better despite the force of nature and that Nora’s dear friend Evangeline had been blinded by glass from an explosion in the church. Bo could barely speak to Matthew to tell him about Duke because the heartache was too much to bear. He was instantly reminded of Drew and he never thought his heart could ache in that way again. Nora had gone to sit with Evangeline but she said if he needed her she would be there. This was an awkward time because they were not together but the deep feelings were evident. Nora had told Matthew of this accident and Bo just had to deal with the questions of why. He did not know the answers now any better than when he buried Drew years ago.

Duke’s funeral was a couple of days later. Joey, Cord, Tina, and even Lee Ann (Duke’s mother) had come in for the burial. It was unbearable pain but somehow the Buchanan’s got through it. Nora was there with Matthew but left early because the boy became inconsolable. She hugged Viki and Clint and made her way out of the church.

Bo knew that now was not the time to discuss their possible future but he felt strongly that the time was soon. He did not want to lose her with so much going on around them, he knew that he had to cease this time and talk to Nora before he missed the opportunity all together.

A week had passed and Bo had not had the opportunity to sleep let alone to see Matt and Nora. His obligation to the community and to his family overcame him and his time was limited to a few phone calls throughout the week to Nora to check on Matt. They were lucky to have very little damages done to their home so they were helping at the school and in their neighborhood.
By the end of the week, Llanview looked better and Asa was going home from the hospital. Renee insisted on taking him to Texas to relax so Asa had no other choice. The mansion was having some work so the time was right. Bo was staying at Asa’s despite the work because the garret had severe water damage. They weren’t even sure they could fix it so Bo took that as a sign and scrounged up what he could and left. It was time for a new start and tonight he had made plans with Nora. It was the first time since that day in the church that he had seen her and he had big plans.
He decided to call her, but he only got her machine, “Nora, this is Bo… I was just calling to tell you that I will pick you up at your place at 7pm and that you don’t have to wear anything too fancy. I’m, well I’m really excited about seeing you. Bye.”

Bo sat back and smiled to himself. Tonight would be the beginning of a whole new life. He glanced at the calendar and noticed the date, June 1st, 2006. “What a terrific sign!”
