Asa’s Mansion:

Bo had just stepped in to the huge marble shower in the master bedroom when the phone rang.

“Damn, it’s the machine” Nora cleared her voice and tried miserably not to sound as nervous as she was feeling. “Oh, hi Bo, it’s me Nora. Well of course you know it’s me. Anyway I got your message and I can’t believe that we’re actually doing this. What did you mean dress casual? I would like to know where we’re going. OK, sorry never mind I can roll with it, I’m easy like that. Well, no I’m not but I’ll see you at seven. I hope we’re not…” BEEP! “Oh hell, I hate answering machines! Well I hope we aren’t making a mistake Bo”.
With the phone back in the cradle Nora made her way into the shower to try and relax.

Bo stepped out of the shower and walked across the room tightening his towel around the waist. He had heard the phone and wanted to make sure it wasn’t anything he had to get to before he got dressed. He hit the play massage button and instantly felt the smile that always crossed his face when he heard her voice creeping up. He laughed at the end when the annoying “beep” had cut her off and as he crossed the room to get his clothes he ended her sentence. “No, Nora we are not making a mistake.” With that he got dressed and left the house.

Nora’s House:

Nora had laid out several sets of “casual” clothes on her bed and Matthew had been plucked to be her wardrobe manager. This was a job he had always hated when his mom had dated Daniel but for some reason this time it was fun. This was partially because he knew where his dad was going with tonight and partially because he knew this was an easy job because his mom looked beautiful in anything.

“Matthew, pay attention please, this is important!” Nora said trying to reach around and zip her top.

Matthew crossed the room and took over zipping her up and taking the outfit in. “It’s too dressy mom, dad said casual and this is something you would wear to the Palace or something.”

Nora laughed, “well at least I know that’s not where we’re going, thanks Matt” Nora said as she ruffled his hair.

“Well mom, that’s a good try but you know dad wouldn’t be that generic anyway, and I’m for sure not telling anything so don’t even try. Here, I think this would fit the place perfectly.” Matthew held up a khaki skirt and a pale blue top with small beadwork around the V-neck.

“I think, Matthew, that this will be perfect. Thank you very much for helping to keep me sane because you know how important this night is for me and your dad.”

“You two deserve a chance at being together mom. So many things have kept you two apart and I have never seen you two actually together but if it’s like what everyone else says about you two, especially grandpa Asa, you two were terrific!” Matthew was beaming at the thought of something that he had never seen, just heard about. The whole thing somehow made Nora sad that this little boy that she and Bo wanted so badly turned out so perfectly and now it was their chance to bring this fractured family back together. She was jarred from her thoughts by the doorbell.

“I’ll get it” Matthew practically screamed as he rolled from the bed and bounded down the stairs.

“Tell him I’ll be right down” Nora yelled after Matthew while she frantically pulled her clothes on. She checked herself in the mirror and decided that Matthew had made a good choice, fluffed her hair and headed down to what could be her future. With each step she took her nervousness dissipated and at the bottom of the staircase there he was kneeling over talking to Matthew. The two looked like they were in their own world giggling and whispering. The moment took her back years when she first met Bo and the similarities between he and Matthew were not lost on her. He had always been like a big kid when they were around one another, and oh how they loved each other. It was all so powerful she just wanted to take the moment in.

“Oh, Nora, hey! You look great, how many outfits did you go through for this outcome?” Bo smirked and Nora couldn’t’ help but smile.

“Matthew, you, my son are a traitor!” She grabbed Matthew and squeezed him tight.

“Mom, let me go!” Matthew tried his best to wiggle out of her embrace but wound up in a fit of laughter because by this point Nora has tickling in his sides.
“Now go do your homework! Maryann will check it so don’t disappoint me.” Nora said letting him go.

“I will, but you guys have fun! Dad, good luck with that thing.” Matthew winked and headed upstairs.

“That ‘thing’ huh?” Nora smiled and grabbed her coat. Well I guess I can be surprised.

Bo grabbed her hand and out the door they went. By the time they got to the “place” Bo had blindfolded Nora and she was very unsure on her feet as he lead the way. She could feel the high grass rubbing her ankles and had an extreme need to itch them but she kept walking. “Bo, where are we? I mean I’m all for surprises but I can feel the mosquitoes biting me.” She laughed. She loved this whole thing but she also loved teasing him.

“Actually ‘miss I like to ask 10 million questions and act like I love surprises when I know you don’t’ we’re here. Don’t touch the blindfold. We need to climb.

Nora didn’t think she had heard him right until she felt the pull of her hand and a hand placed on her hip gently pushing her up what seemed like a ladder. “Uh Bo, I don’t want to fall. Can I take this blindfold off for a second? I won’t peek, I’ll just look down I promise.”

“No, Red, just trust me, you’re almost there. Just trust me, you won’t fall.” Bo smiled to himself as he was enjoying the view of Nora climbing in front of him up the ladder. When they reached the top Bo helped her to a sitting position on a soft blanket.

Nora could smell what seemed like wood or some sort and she sensed they were still outside. She sat quietly and let the cool of the evening wash over her. She could hear the crickets and the sound made her feel at peace. Wherever they were she knew that she could stay here forever as long as she was with Bo. She could hear him stirring and almost instantly she could smell a sweet scent of food and soft music began to play. Taking this all in she still sat silent waiting for Bo’s next move, anticipating it.

“So, now we aren’t talking or asking questions? I hope that doesn’t mean that you’ve figured me out already.” Bo smiled knowing that she had no idea of where they were.

“No no, I’m just relaxing, you know taking it easy.”
Nora smiled as she thought about Bo’s possible expression. He knew she was no one to take it easy.
“OK, Red well I think we can take that blindfold off now. Even though this has been fun we should eat the pizza before it gets cold. Hold on and I’ll untie it for you.” He handed her something that felt like a bottle, and the cold feeling surprised her so much she pulled the blindfold off so she could see what it was.

She looked around taking it all in, Bo’s back was to her fixing something on the table. He hadn’t noticed her removal of the blindfold.

“Oh my God Bo, where have you taken me?”
