Last time:

The next day, Nora was getting ready for the picnic she and Bo planned to take Matthew, so they could tell him the truth. She was in the kitchen when the doorbell rang.

M: I’ll open the door, mom!

Matt yelled and ran to the door. Nora walked into the living room with the basket she made for their picnic at the park and called Matt.

N: Matt who was at the doo..

The basket fell on the floor. Her mouth opened with shock. Her trembling hands covered her face. Tears built in her eyes. Fear flooded her body. Everything froze. Her voice was cracking.

N: It’s... it’s... you...
*****************************
It seemed like everything in the room was turning around her. The walls were closing her in. She felt dizzy. Her body was trembling. All she could do was to look deeply into his eyes. Rush of memories flooded her. His touches. His beatings. His breath on her face. The disgust. The nightmares. The fear. The pain. The destruction he caused to her life. And the hatred. As she kept looking at him she could still see it. The will for revenge. The anger. It was still there. Deep into his eyes.

For the first time her feelings felt real. It was him. It was really him. He was the man that did all of this to her. She wanted to run. To disappear. She couldn’t stay and look at him without feeling so helpless. So scared. But he had him. He had Matthew. He was holding her son. And he had a gun. She couldn’t run. Not until she knew her son was safe and sound. But her legs didn’t move. Her body was frozen. But then she looked at Matthew. Her son was terrified. Tears rolled down all over his face. He looked so small. So fragile. She had to do something for her son. She had to be stronger. She couldn’t let that man hurt that boy she loved more than life itself. She had to find courage within her. She had to find the words.

N: I.. I don’t know what you want from me, but leave my son alone..

He laughed. His laughter still made her feel sick. That pleased laughter. The laughter that meant revenge. He tossed Matthew’s hair and looked at Nora.

Man: I see that you forgot your manners, Nora. What’s wrong? Aren’t you happy to see me again?

M: Mommy..

Matthew cried. Nora’s eyes turned to look at him. He was so scared...

N: Please leave him alone... it’s me that you want... just leave him..

He looked at Matthew again and smiled. A cruel smile.

Man: Why? It’s even more fun to look at you now than it was the last time...

N: What do you want from me? I thought that...

Man: You caught me, huh? That you got rid of me??
Well, you were wrong. That stupid man, your dear commissioner put behind bars, was not the man you were looking for...

N: We had evidences.. the newspapers... the drugs..

Man: He was just a convenient distraction. And you fell for it... you and your lover boy...

Nora looked at him in confusion. She could understand why she couldn’t feel right when they put Eric in jail. She couldn’t feel that justice was done. She couldn’t feel the disgust, pain and anger she felt when she looked into Eric’s eyes. But there was no doubt she could feel it now.

N: I don’t get it! Who are you? What did I do to you?
Please, I’m sorry, just let him go...

Man: No way. I want you to feel the same pain you caused me. The pain of losing someone dear.

N: What are you talking about? I don’t even know who you are..

Man: But you knew my father and you killed him.. you were supposed to defense him but you didn’t. He was sentenced for a lifetime because of you. And after one month in jail... he killed himself.

Nora examined his face carefully. And she stated to remember. He looked like his father. She could see the resemblance now. It was so long ago when she lost the case but she remembered reading about his suicide. She kept looking at the man who was standing in front of her and threatened her son and she could see his image as a little boy looking at his father being led in handcuffs. She could still remember how sad she felt for that little boy. His face, his tears. The innocent look he had. The look of a boy who just lost his father. But he hadn’t had that innocent look anymore. She could see only hatred on his face.

N: Jack Smith. I remember your father. You are John, right? You were just a little boy...

J: That’s right... and you ruined my whole life. You killed my father. You destroyed my mother. She got drunk every night after he died. Every night. Because of you I had no father.. and no mother.

N: I did all I could to help him. He was guilty. I’m sorry for what happened to you but he was guilty...

John looked at her angrily. She could see his fury racing into his body. His face turned red. His voice was louder. He was furious. Her heart stopped when he tightened his hold on Matthew and pointed the gun at her. He yelled.

J: It was your job to help him! It was your fault!

Nora felt like she couldn’t breath when she looked at Matthew. He was crying harder now. He was so scared. And so was she.

M: Mommy...

N: You’re right, you’re right it was all my fault.. but please let him go.. look at him, he is just a little boy... don’t hurt him. I’m begging you. Take me instead... just don’t hurt him.

Nora covered her face with her hands. The fear she felt when he raped her wasn’t even close to the fear she felt now. He was threatening her son, who was her whole life. It pained even more than it pained when he took her pride and brutally beat her. While she kept crying, she noticed something different on his face. It was as if all the hatred his eyes were reflecting a minute ago, turned into the same innocent eyes of that little boy that lost his father. It seemed as this strong, powerful man who asked for revenge, who hurt her, was nothing more than a frightened, helpless little boy that witnessed his father going to jail. That saw his father for the last time. Her body stopped shivering. Her tears stopped. She stood still and looked at him. Her voice was soft.

N: Let him go, you don’t want to hurt him... you were about his age then, weren’t you?

He looked at Matthew and then his eyes turned to look at Nora again. She looked at him back. Straight into his eyes. When their eyes locked he leaned down his head as if looking at her remained him of the pain he felt years ago. She could swear she saw moisture in them.

J: I needed my father... you took him away...

N: I’m sorry for the pain I caused you.. but maybe I can help you..

He picked up his head and looked at her. The powerless look that belonged to the little boy was gone and the hatred and anger showed up again. Her body trembled again as she noticed the change in his eyes again. Before she could do or say something he pushed Matthew aside, causing him to fall down, and neared her. He pinned her hardly against the wall behind her. His strong body pressed against hers. She could feel his weight on her body. The rage was burning into his eyes. Her tears began again. She felt helpless again.

M: Mommy..

Matthew cried. Watching that stranger man hurting his mother was frightening. He could still remember the night he found her. When he thought she was dead. He didn’t tell anyone how scared he was back then. He wanted to be brave like the man he adored, but at that moment all he wanted was to be in his mother’s arms. Nora tried to look at Matthew over John’s shoulder. She didn’t care about anything except of her son. She saw him crying. But at least she knew he was out of this monster’s hands. She needed to calm her son down. Her voice was cracking. She couldn’t get fresh air into her lungs as his body kept pressing strongly on hers.
N: Matt.. I’m fine.. I’m fine...

John slapped her hard. So hard she felt like her face was burning. He yelled.

J: Shut up, you hear me? Shut up!!

She said nothing but let her tears stream down her face. He calmed down when she obeyed him. He slowly trailed the gun along her face, down to her neck and then between her breasts.

J: Good girl... good girl...

She swallowed hard and closed her eyes when the fear and disgust took over her body. She needed to believe it was just a nightmare and she would wake up at any minute. She couldn’t let her fear take over her body. Her mind. She had to stay focused. She had to be strong. She had to fight back. She opened her eyes when she realized he loosened his hold on her. Before she could understand what was going on she heard the sound of glass shattered on the floor. She saw Matthew. He hit John with a jar. He fell on the floor. She used the chance and ran out of his hold. She ran to Matthew and held him tightly into her arms. They were both crying. Not noticing that John got up on his legs.

N: Oh, sweetie... that’s ok.. everything is ok..

J: Think again, bitch...

He lifted his gun and pointed it at them. Nora pulled Matthew closer to her body. Matthew buried his face on her chest. She looked deeply into John’s eyes. She held Matthew tight. Protecting him with her own body. A gun was fired. She closed her eyes tight. The seconds that passed seemed like hours. Nothing happened. She opened her eyes and saw John pressing his hand against his belly and falling on the floor. Her eyes narrowed with confusion when she looked at him. Then her eyes shifted to her side. He was standing there. The gun in his hand. He saved them. Their eyes locked together. She saw the fear in them. The relief. He ran to them quickly. When he was close enough he stood still. He examined them as if he needed to assure himself that they were fine. Nora looked at him carefully. He turned around and saw John lying on the floor. He went to him and checked his pulse. He called his station and ordered them to send an ambulance and cops. After he put his cell phone back in his pocket he went to Matthew and Nora. They were still holding each other. Matthew was clung to Nora’s body so hard as if he tried to make sure she wouldn’t leave him. Nora’s chin was on Matt’s head.
She held him tight and cried. When he saw the two of them all he wanted to do was to hold them tight. To protect them. To assure them it was all over. They were safe. He was there for them. And forever would be. He wrapped his arms around them and cradled them into his arms. He softly kissed his son’s head and squeezed Nora’s hand tightly. She leaned her head against his body and kept on crying.

N: Oh, God, Bo.. I’ve never in my life been more happier to see you..

B: Are you all right? What was going on here? Who is this man?

He felt her body shivering and looked into her eyes. He could see the fear into her eyes. But he knew it was more than her fear for Matthew or her life. He could see something else in them. And then he remembered. The night after they came back from the hospital. That night when she had the nightmare. When she felt sick. When he held her tight on her bathroom’s tiles.
Comforting her. Protecting her. When he softly stroked her hair and sang to her. They stayed in each other’s arms for what seemed like a lifetime. He saw that look back then. And then it’s just popped into his head. He was the man who raped Nora. He was the man that caused her so much fear and pain. It was him.

B: Oh, my God, it was him, right? He was the one who...

His voice trailed off. Nora didn’t answer. She didn’t have to. Bo already knew the answer. He just pulled her closer to him. Held her tighter. They drew apart when the paramedics and cops hurried into the house. Bo walked to them.

B: He’s still breathing. I shot him in his belly.

His eyes wandered from the paramedics to his cops.

B: Don’t take your eyes off of him, is it clear?

Cop: Yes, sir.

Bo turned to Nora. She wasn’t holding Matthew anymore. She was watching them wheeling him out. Her tears were still falling down her face, but he could see relief on her face. He walked to her and held her hand.

B: Are you ok? I mean, did he hurt you? Do you want to see a doctor?

She shook her head. Her eyes were still focusing on John.

N: No, no. I’m fine.

When she could not see them any longer she turned to look at Bo. She woke up. The nightmare was over now. He wasn’t threatening her anymore. Or her son.
Matthew. She noticed he wasn’t in her arms anymore. She looked around, searching for him. But she didn’t see him. He was gone. Her heart stopped again. She panicked

N: Where is he?

B: Who?

N: Matthew! He was here..

Bo looked around but he couldn’t see him either. He was scared.

B: Maybe he’s upstairs..

He took her hand and led her upstairs. They both couldn’t shake off the feeling of concern. Of fear. When they opened his room’s door they saw him. He was sitting on the floor in the corner of the room. He tightened his legs to his chest, wrapped his arms around his knees and leaned his head on them. They stopped and watched him for a moment. They heard him cry. And their hearts broke for him. Bo slowly stepped towards him and knelt down so he could look at Matthew straight into his eyes. He stroked his hair softly. His heart pained like hell. Matthew picked up his head and looked at Bo. Bo noticed that his hand was bleeding. He took his hand and examined it..

B: Hey, buddy, are you ok? Did he hurt you?

Nora looked carefully at Bo`s face. She could see how Bo tried to stay calm, but she could see deeply into his eyes how scared he was. How painful it was for him. Seeing Matthew in such danger, in such pain without having the power to help him, must have reminded him of all the guilt feelings he had about Drew. But even though she could read all this pain into his eyes, she knew he would do anything to protect Matthew. And herself. And he did. He saved them. Matthew looked at Bo and wiped his tears away.

M: I just tried to help mommy.. I broke the jar on him and cut my hand... but it doesn’t hurt so much..

Bo smiled softly. At least he wasn’t hurt physically, he thought to himself.

B: So why are you crying?

M: I was so scared he would hurt mommy again.. I wanted to be brave like you... daddy..

Both Bo and Nora looked at each other, then at Matthew with surprised and confused looks. Bo got up. Nora neared him and stood besides him. He called Bo daddy. Daddy.

N: Honey, what did you call Bo?

M: Daddy.

His voice was soft. Pure. If Bo could prevent the tears when he saw the two people he loved more than anything in the world in such danger, he couldn’t do it anymore. So the tears started to build into his eyes.

N: How do you know that...

M: I heard you talking... you said that Bo was my dad.

N: So why didn’t you tell me what you heard until now?

M: Cuz` I was scared that if I called him dad bad things would happen to him..

N: Why would you think that?

M: Because what happened to you and we thought you were an angel... and then when dad.. I mean Sam died... and then that man that hurt you again...

N: Oh, honey, you can’t blame yourself for what happened to me or to Sam. It has nothing to do with you. Nothing bad is going to happen to Bo. He so happy to be your dad...

M: I don’t want to make Da.. Sam.. sad because I love Bo too...

Nora looked at Matthew. The tears welled in her eyes. She pulled Matthew into tight embrace.

N: Oh, sweetie, you don’t make Sam sad. Sam knew that you loved him. Sam wanted you to be happy that’s why he told us that Bo is your father. You don’t have to be scared of anything, you can call Bo daddy, ok?

Bo just stood there. Everything was happening so fast he couldn’t take it all together. Minutes ago he almost witnessed that crazy man killing his family and now his son called him daddy. His son said the one word he wanted to hear more than anything and he couldn’t imagine how his heart would be filled with joy when he heard that simple word. Daddy. Matthew neared Bo. Bo looked at him. The tears were no long waiting in the corners of his eyes but they were rolling down his face.

M: I love you... dad.

Bo fell on his knees and pulled Matthew tightly into his arms. He just held him. Memorizing the moment.

B: I love you too, son.

Nora looked at them. Matthew was smiling. Bo was smiling too. She couldn’t be happier. She walked closer to them and joined their hug. Bo looked at her and laughed slightly. His eyes shone with such happiness and love. She kissed him softly and smiled. After they pulled apart the three of them decided they needed to celebrate and put everything behind them. But not only the nightmare they just had but the years of broken hearts. Of waiting. Of missing. They went to the park.

They met Rachel there and they spent the day as a family. When the sun set they went back home. Rachel decided to spend the night at Hank’s house. Matthew fell asleep as soon as his head hit the pillow. Bo and Nora went to her bedroom.

The only lights that lightened up the room belonged to the candles. The only sounds that were heard in the room belonged to the music that was playing softly. And to their heart beatings that were pounding fast. In the same rhythm of the other. They sat on the edge of her bed. Looking deeply into each other eyes. Reading each other’s souls. Hands linked together. He softly brushed the back of his hand against her cheek. She closed her eyes and enjoyed his touch. The touch she longed to feel for what seemed like eternity.

B: I don’t know what I would have done if I hadn’t arrived on time. A few seconds later and..

She planted a soft kiss on his lips. Her hands cradled his face.

N: Shhh.. you came on time.. we’re here. Together. It’s all over now. This nightmare... it’s all behind us..

B: I can’t tell you how much it meant to me to spend this day with you and Matthew and Rachel together... as a family.

Nora softly smiled. She didn’t need to hear him saying it so she could know that. She saw it in his eyes. In his smile. In his soul.

N: You don’t have to... I already know how much...

B: I’m so happy he took it so well... I was so scared...

N: He loves you and adores you... he’s so lucky to have you as his dad.

B: And you as his mother. I love you so much, Nora.

He got closer to her. His hands held her face. His eyes admiring her beautiful eyes. Her lips. He smiled. She touched his lips. She wanted him now more than ever. He needed her like he never did before. Their lips touched. First lingeringly. Teasingly. Testing. He hauled her closer. Her lips parted. His mouth captured hers. Fierce fire burned into their bodies. Their hearts. Their lips parted. Their faces only inches apart. He kissed her forehead tenderly. His lips lowered to her nose, then her cheek down to her neck. She tilted her head back. Making him more space. She moaned softly.

N: Oh, Bo..

He looked at her. He couldn’t believe he was able to love someone so deeply as he loved her. He smiled. His hands lowered from her face to her blouse. Slowly he started to unbutton her shirt.

"Tonight I celebrate my love for you
It seems the natural thing to do
Tonight no one's gonna find us
We'll leave the world behind us
When I make love to you
Tonight I celebrate my love for you
And hope that deep inside you feel it too
Tonight our spirits will be climbing
To the sky lit up with diamonds
When I make love to you tonight"

Her shirt fell on the floor. Her body trembled when he touched her skin as if his hands were electrifying her body. She touched his hand that was traveling the length of her body and took his hand closer to her mouth and kissed it. Their eyes locked again. His hand slipped from hers and thrust into her hair. He laid her back on her bed. Kissing her passionately. They became one as they loved each other. They celebrated their love for one another. With such passion. Desire. Need. Like they never did before…..

"Tonight I celebrate my love for you
And that midnight song is gonna come shining through
Tonight there'll be no distance between us
What I want most to do
Is to get close to you tonight..."

The End!
