By Your Side (Part 2)   Last time:   His voice was trembling. He ran over the phone and dialed the first number that came up to his mind.   B: Buchanan.   Matthew hysterically started to talk as he heard Bo`s voice.   M: Bo.. you must come over here right now... I’m so scared, Bo.. mommy is..   Bo heard the panic in Matthew’s voice. He became worried. He needed Matthew to be calm down so he could understand what was wrong. He straightened up in his chair. B: Matthew, please, you have to calm down first.. and tell me what happened.   M: Mommy.. the house.. she has blood all over her.. she doesn’t move.. Bo.. I think she’s dead.. I’m so scared.   Bo felt his heart skip a beat. He was horrified. The idea of Nora dead made him shiver.   B: Ok, Matthew. I want you to stay where you are, I’ll be there as soon as I can.   M: Ok..   Bo heard Matthew crying. He could imagine the fear he felt. His son was terrified.   B: Don’t worry, buddy.. everything will be ok.   Bo wasn’t sure if he tried to convince Matt or himself. He grabbed his coat and ordered a few cops to come with him. He hoped and prayed that everything would be ok. ******************* While Bo was on his way to Nora’s house he couldn’t think of anything else but Matthew’s frightened voice. He could hear his words clearly over and over again "Mommy.. the house.. she has blood all over her.. she doesn’t move.. Bo.. I think she’s dead.. I’m so scared...". Bo shook up his head, tried to stop the pictures he had in his mind. Within ten minutes he burst into Nora’s house. There was deep silence at first but as he walked further he could hear a soft howl. His heart skipped a beat as he heard Matthew. He searched for him and then he saw him. He was sitting on the floor next to Nora. He felt his stomach writhe. Nora was lying on the floor. She had blood all over her. Her shirt was tore up and her pants were undressed. Matthew was holding her hand and sobbed. The vision of the two of them broke Bo`s heart. He couldn’t move or talk. The other cop that was with him tried to call him but Bo took no notice of him. He slowly walked to Matthew and held him tightly. He wiped his tears and softly talked to him.   B: Shhh.. everything is gonna be all right, buddy. I’m right here now.   Matthew said nothing. He was too frightened. He just looked at Bo and the pain in his eyes burned Bo`s heart. He asked the cop to take Matthew to the kitchen and give him some water and then he stepped closer to Nora and bent down to her. His fingers trembled as he placed them against her throat searching for her pulse. He felt relieved as he felt it. He sighed. She was breathing. He took off his coat and carefully swathed Nora in it. After he covered her body he ordered the other cop to call an ambulance. He gave him the phone number of Mary Ann and asked him to tell her to come over right away and take Matthew for the night. He softly touched Nora’s face and called her name but she didn’t move.   B: Nora, please, you’ve got to wake up. God, Nora, you must be all right.   He gently held her hand and kissed her forehead.   B: I don’t know who did this to you, but I promise you I’ll make him pay for it..   A few minutes later the ambulance arrived. While the paramedics wheeled her into the ambulance, Bo went to the kitchen and saw Matthew sitting by the table and crying. He walked towards Matthew and hugged him tightly. All he wanted right now was to make his son feel safe and to know that his best friend was going to be just fine. He loosened his hold on Matt and looked straight into his wet eyes.   B: Your mommy is going to be fine, you have nothing to worry about, ok?   M: Can I see her?   B: Not now. We must take her to the hospital so Larry can take care of her..   Bo could see the fear that was still existed into Matthew’s eyes. His son was worried sick to his mom and it tore Bo up. He took Matt’s hand and brushed his hair back.   B: I’m going with her to the hospital and I’m going to make sure she’s all right, I promise you, buddy, I’m not going to leave her side until she’s ready to come home. Mary Ann is already here and she’ll stay with you over the night, ok?   Matthew gently nodded his head. Bo wiped his son’s tears and wore encouraging smile on his face.   B: I’ll see you in the morning. I love you, buddy.   Matthew softly smiled. Bo rose up and kissed his forehead. He looked into his eyes and smiled back at him. He was going out when Matthew ran out the kitchen and called Bo`s name. Bo stopped and turned to look at Matt. Matthew ran to him and clung to his body. Bo slowly brushed his hair and bent down to Matthew.   M: Tell mommy I love her, will ya?   Bo smiled.   B: Sure I will. I promise.   M: Thank you, uncle Bo, I love you too.   Bo hugged Matthew one more time and went out. Outside the house he talked to his cops.   B: I want you to find out what the hell happened here and who did it to her, is it clear?   COP: Yes, sir. We’ll do our best.   B: I want this bastard that did this to pay for it. Cops: Yes, sir.   Bo walked into his car and drove to the hospital. The ambulance was already at the hospital and Nora was rushed into an examination room and Larry was already checking her. Bo arrived to the hospital and sat restless in the waiting room. He couldn’t shut down the image of Nora lying on the floor like that. He didn’t want to think what she has gone through but he prayed she would be fine. Suddenly he felt a pat on his back. He turned around and saw Larry standing next to him.   B: How is she? Is she all right?   L: Yes, she’s fine. Physically at least. Nothing broken but she has a few bruises, nothing too serious.   Bo exhaled with relief. A small smile spread on his face. B: Thanks God, I was so scared when I found her like that with her clothes tore..   Bo stopped. He looked worriedly at Larry. He could see in his eyes that something was wrong. Very wrong.   B: Oh, my God.. Larry, was she.. God, was she.. He couldn’t complete his sentence. He just looked at Larry and saw the answer in his eyes. Suddenly Bo felt weakness in his body and he sat down. Larry sat next to him and put his hand on his shoulder.   L: I’m so sorry Bo, but yes. She was raped.   Bo felt tears in his eyes. Nora was his friend. His best friend. Even after all that happened between them they were still good friends. And now, after they found out that Matthew was Bo`s son, they were getting even closer. He might didn’t love her as a wife anymore [Author note: well that is what he thinks now, but he will get clever again! I promise! LOL!!] but he loved her as a close friend and the thought of what she has gone through broke his heart. He rubbed his nose and looked at Larry again.   B: Is she awake?   L: Not yet. I guess she passed out some when during the attack. She went through a real trauma, Bo. She will need the time to recover. She was lucky he didn’t hurt her physically too badly but he hurt her in so many other ways and she will need the time to get over this.   B: I know. I’m a cop, remember? I dealt with women who were raped before and I know what it means. God, I just want to catch this bastard who did that to her..   L: And I really hope you will.   B: Can I go and see her?   L: Sure.   Bo slowly opened the door and came in. Nora was still sleeping. He could see the bandages that covered her injuries. He sat down next to her bed and looked at her. He hated the thought of what that monster did to her. And he hated more the fact that Matthew was the one who found her like that. Memories of the beach house started to flood his mind. He could still remember the fear in Nora’s eyes after Todd tried to rape her. He couldn’t imagine what she must have felt tonight when this bastard raped her. He just wanted to kill him.   When Nora regained consciousness again it was already daylight. She no longer felt muzzy but she ached all over. The room was quiet but she could hear someone breathing. Slowly she turned her head. She could see Bo sitting by her bed. He was asleep, sunken into the chair. She felt better, knowing that Bo was around and she was safe. She tried to overturn on her back but she felt pain. Her soft whine woke Bo up. He slowly opened his eyes and as he noticed Nora was awake he got up and got closer to her. He sat on her bed.   B: Oh, Nora.. how do you feel?   N: My body is a little ache but I’m just happy now to know that this nightmare is over. I was so scared Bo.. I thought he was going to ra..   Nora felt tears in her eyes. The memory of last night was hard. She started to cry and Bo quickly wrapped his arms around her and held her close.   N: I’m so glad you came and stopped him..   She slowly picked her head up and looked at Bo.   N: Thank you.   Bo looked at her confusingly. Could she forget what happened last night? he wonderingly asked himself. She noticed his look and became confused too.   N: What? What is it?   B: Nora, don’t you remember what happened last night?   N: Well, yes, of course I do remember..   B: Can you tell me what exactly happened?   Nora wiped her tears and looked down. She could feel the same fear she felt as that man pointed the gun at her and burst into her house. Bo saw the fear in her eyes and slowly took her hand and squeezed it. She forced a small smile and started to talk.   N: I was reading a book when I heard someone at the door. I went to open it and before I could understand what was happening a man pushed me back and pointed a gun at me. And I just knew it was the same man..   B: The same man?   N: I was getting weird calls lately..   B: What weird calls? From who?   N: I don’t know. He was calling me and telling me it was time for revenge, that now I was going to pay for what I did..   B: When did it start?   N: Two weeks ago I think..   Bo looked angrily at Nora. He hated when she tried to play the cop. She knew she could trust him, she knew he would do anything to protect her so why didn’t she tell him such a thing?   B: What? Why didn’t you tell me about this?   N: I thought it was just a sick joke. I never thought he was serious and I knew you would overreact and I..   B: Overreact? How can you say that, Nora? This man attacked you.. I might have could stop him for God’s sake!   Nora looked down and started to cry again. Bo realized he was too hard on her after all she went through. He hesitatingly touched her face.   B: I’m sorry, Nora, I shouldn’t have..   She slowly picked up her head. Her tears falling down her face.   N: You’re right. I was stupid not to tell you, I’m so sorry, Bo.   Bo hauled her to him and hugged her tightly. He wanted her to feel safe. He gently kissed her head.   B: Nora, forget that, ok? I’m just glad you’re all right. I couldn’t bare it of something would have happened to you..   Nora slowly bit her lower lip and looked at Bo. She softly smiled and Bo saw in her eyes she was grateful to him and he smiled back at her.   B: What happened next? After he came into the house?   N: He started to act like crazy. He talked about revenge. I had no idea what he talked about, I didn’t even recognize him. I tried to get away but he caught me and I couldn’t move. He said that he was going to let me enjoy in the last moments I could still breath and then he started to touch me all over.   Nora leaned her head down and the tears appeared again. Bo squeezed her hand again. Assuring her that she was safe and protected now.   B: That’s ok. Take it slow..   N: I struggled him and then he started to beat me up and undress me. I fell on the floor and he was angry cause I fought him back. He continued to undress me and then.. I.. well than..   She looked confusingly at Bo.   N: I can’t remember what happened next.. all I remember is the pain I felt. My body ached so much. I was scared and disgusted. I knew I didn’t have much to do. He was stronger and determined to make me pay for whatever I did to him. I think I passed out.   B: You passed out, are you sure?   N: Yes. But then I woke up because I remember I was muzzy and dizzy and he was still on top of me.. I didn’t have my clothes on me and he was kissing my body.. and he was laughing.. he enjoyed seeing me so scared and tortured. He kept saying I was only getting what I was deserved. And then he..   She stopped. She swallowed hard and looked at Bo. Her face was wet and her nose was red. She looked disgusted and hurt. She slowly wound her arms around her belly and brought her knees to her chest. Bo watched her. He could feel her pain. He wanted to comfort her. He gently put his hand on hers but she repelled him. She looked at him.   N: He raped me, didn’t he? God, Bo, did he rape me?   Bo just looked her. It was more difficult to him than he imagined. The fear in her eyes, the pain he felt, the distress. He took her hand and this time she didn’t reject him.   B: I’m so sorry, Nora. I’m so sorry...   Nora burst out tears and leaned against Bo`s body. He slowly wrapped his arms around her and held her tightly. She said nothing and did nothing except of crying. Bo gently kissed her head and she straight up and looked at him.   N: I think I passed out again. But I think I heard someone coming before I passed out. I know I was still dizzy of the pain but I’m almost sure I heard noises. He did too and he freaked out, then he left in hurry. That’s when I passed out. Who was it? Who did come?   B: It was Matthew. He found you. He was so scared, he thought you were dead and he called me, I came as soon as possible.   N: Matthew? Oh, my poor baby. Where is he now? Is he ok?   B: He is with Mary Ann now. He was a terrified but I calm him down. I promised him that I would take care of you.   Bo softly smiled.   B: I also promised him that I would tell you that he loves you.   Nora smiled through her tears.   N: Thank you, Bo.   B: Why don’t you try to get some sleep? You’ve gone through too much.   N: I’m not sure I can close my eyes without seeing this..   B: I know it’s hard, but you must take your time and relax.   N: Bo, if Matthew hadn’t come, he would have killed me..   B: But he came. And you’re safe now. I’m going to find this bastard and make sure he will never see the daylight again, I promise you. I have the best cops and I’m sure that they have enough evidences by now to get to him.   N: I hope so.   B: Well, I think I’ll go and see Matt. I want to make sure he is feeling better, so why don’t you get some sleep? I’ll be here later to make sure you’re all right. And just to make you calm down, I have one of my cops outside your room. I don’t want to take any risks until we find this son of a bitch.   Bo rose up and softly kissed her forehead and then he looked into her eyes. He gently wiped her tears.   B: I’m so glad that you’re here. I care about you very much Nora. I would never want to see you hurt again and I’ll do anything to make sure you never will.   Nora smiled and Bo went towards the door. When he opened the door, Nora called him. He turned around and looked at her. She had a small smile on her face.   N: Matthew is so lucky to have you as his dad. And so am I, Bo.   Bo smiled at her and went out the room. Nora sunk into her bed and burst out tears again. She never in her life felt so disgusted as she did now. Remembering the severe beating, his touch on her body, his brutal way to get a revenge, the determine look in his eyes to make her pay for what he claimed she did to him, scared her to death. She knew it wasn’t over yet. She shrank her body and wrapped her arms around her stomach and started to cry like a baby.   Bo walked in the hospital’s hall as he saw his cop nearing him and he stopped.   B: Is there any progress in the investigation?   COP: Well, I think you’re not going to love it, Commissioner...     To be continued...
