Confrontation…Part 4

“Good Morning, John!” greeted Nora as she walked into the station the next morning.

“Hey Nora, how’s it going?” Sykes looked up from his desk to see a much happier Nora than he’d had dinner with the night before. “By the way, the Commissioner can’t keep the silly grin off his face this morning, you know anything about that?”

He didn’t really expect her to answer, but the smile she flashed as she walked toward the Commissioner’s office said she knew something.

Nora knocked and then walked into Bo’s office. He looked up from whatever he was working on and met her smile.

“Good morning, Commissioner. Rumor is that you’re in a good mood this morning.” She came in and perched herself on the side of his desk.

He was happy, more hopeful about life than he’d been in a long time. “John?”

She nodded.

“Well, he is a detective, no point in trying to fool him.”

“So, really, you okay this morning?”

“Yeah, I did a lot of thinking though, after you left.”

“What did you come up with?”

“I am attracted to you, there’s no point denying it.” He shifted in his chair and turned to face her. “You are more beautiful today then you were when I met you, and I think about you, think about us, all the time.”

She took a deep breath and began to speak, but his hand on her thigh stopped her.

“Let me finish Red, I practiced this.”

She smiled and he continued, “Nora, I don’t want to rehash what happened with Sam and Lindsay. We both hurt each other, I know that. And, I am uncertain about the future, I won’t lie to you and say it’s all going to work out. But I do know that if I didn’t try to resolve whatever it is we feel that I would regret it for the rest of my life. So, that’s it, that’s what I came up with.”

“That sounds pretty good. I did some thinking too. I don’t know if we can ever set aside what’s happened in the past. I feel so guilty for all of that mess. But, like you, I know that we have unfinished business to deal with.

“Are you still attracted to me, Red?”

She met his eyes, paused, but finally nodded vigorously.

“Thank God!” he half-whispered to himself.

“One other thing, what do we do about Paige and Daniel?”

“I called Paige last night and told her that I couldn’t see her anymore.”

Nora couldn’t keep the shock off her face, “Wow, I didn’t realize….I mean, um, okay, yeah.”

“Well there’s one thing you don’t see everyday, Nora Buchanan unable to form a coherent thought.” Bo was laughing, enjoying her surprise.

“Bo, no, I’m fine it just surprises me that you did it so quickly.”

“We’d only had a handful of dinner dates; it wasn’t all that serious, really.”

“No, that’s great, umm, any suggestions on how to break it to Daniel?”

“He’s been looking in here about every five seconds.”

“I guess I’d better go talk to him.”

“You want me to tell him?”

“I wish you could.”

“You mean that?” Bo stood up and pulled her off the desk, “You sure?”

She was being pushed away from the desk to the middle of the room. “Bo, what are you doing?”

“Making a dream come true.” He placed his hands on either side of her face and pulled her forward, and kissed her softly, almost timidly. He pulled back and met her surprised gaze and held it for several seconds. Their gazes both drifted to the others mouth and they kissed again, more certainly, more firmly. Her arms were around his waist and his were in her hair, pulling her closer, not willing to let go.

When they pulled back a second time they stared again at each other, stunned. Then Nora smiled and Bo started laughing. “Can I do that again, just to make sure Daniel got the message?”

“Bo Buchanan, be nice!” She turned to look outside his office windows, just in time to see Daniel punch one of the file cabinets and storm down the hall. “I think he got the message, I should really go talk to him.”

He guided her chin back to face him.

“Later!” they said in unison and resumed kissing, totally oblivious to the clapping and whistles outside the office.

The end, I think.
