The Cornerstone – Part 5

Last time:

“This sounds like a guilt trip you’re laying on me and I don’t like it very much.”

“No, that’s not my intention. My intention is to get you to rethink your feelings and follow your heart.”

“I know how I feel, Bo.”

“Do you?”

“Yes. I do love you…as a friend, as the father of my child. I loved you once with my heart and soul. I can’t do it again.”

“Can’t or won’t?”

She paused. “Won’t.”

“I don’t believe you.”

“Believe what you want to believe.”

“I will.”

He walked away and Nora let her tears flow.

****
A few weeks later:

Daniel finally resigned and after much pleading from the Mayor and his friends, Hank agreed to return as District Attorney at least until the next election. The Three Musketeers would reign again.

****
After Asa admitted to faking insanity, a plea agreement was made. Todd and Blair had to leave Llanview forever never to be seen again and Asa had to hold the biggest fundraiser ever at his mansion to benefit St. Ann’s. (Author’s note: I wrote this ending way before we knew what was happening and what Asa’s punishment would be.)

Nora surveyed the large banquet room in between sips of champagne. It was filled with Llanview’s and the surrounding areas high society. She reluctantly agreed to attend to help out Renee and to see Asa pay! She laughed when Renee told her Asa had to grovel to get some of the guests to attend.

Soon Agnes Sinclair was waving to her and making her way to Nora’s part of the room.

“Nora dear! Nora!”

It was too late for her to make a break for it.

“Hello dear.”

“Mrs. Sinclair…how are you?”

“Fine dear. I need your help.”

Nora swigged down the rest of her champagne.

“How can I help you?” She poured it on real thick.

“Well dear, I joined this health spa and signed a contract and I gave a deposit and now I want to quit and they won’t give me my money back.”

Nora was half paying attention. She reminded herself how much she hated fundraisers.

“Well, Mrs. Sinclair, if you signed the contract normally it is binding. But I can certainly recommend someone who can review it for you as I’m with the District Attorney’s office now.”

“Excuse us.”

Bo grabbed Nora’s hand and nearly dragged her out of the room.

“Bo! What is going on?!!?”

“Oh admit it, you couldn’t wait to leave.”

He was practically running down the hallway with Nora trying her hardest to keep up with him. He chose one of the bedrooms in the remotest area of the mansion. He locked the door behind them.

“I was talking to Mrs. Sinclair!”

Bo pulled her to him and kissed her with all his might. It was a warm, passionate kiss that had Nora buckling at the knees.

“Mrs. Sinclair.”

“No, it’s Bo. You KNOW I’m a better kisser than Mrs. Sinclair.”

Nora laughed out loud before she realized what had just happened.

“Bo” she touched her fingers to her lips. “What is this about?”

“Nora, our old house is for sale. I want to buy it back. I want us all to live there.”

He pulled her toward the bed. “Tell me no if you don’t want to.”

“About the house or the bed?” Nora asked.

Bo smiled. He pulled her close and started to unzip her dress. “Nora, I’ve wanted you for months…years maybe. I know you told me no, but I decided to just take this step and hope you would say yes to both. I love you and I want us to be a family.”

“This is crazy!”

“Well, crazy isn’t what I was hoping for.” He backed off. “I think you have some admitting to do too.”

She walked away from him but not before he noticed the look he had seen so many times before from her. He knew she felt it too.

“You love me too, don’t you?”

It didn’t take her long to admit it. “Yes! Yes, damn it! As much as I tried to stop myself. But I am not going to cry!”

Bo laughed and held her in his arms. She finally felt the weight of the world slip away.

“I love you, Bo” she whispered in his ear.

He closed his eyes hard not wanting his own tears to flow.

“Ow!!!!!!!”

Nora pushed him away from her. “Why did you pinch me???”

“I wanted to make sure I wasn’t dreaming.”

“Aren’t you supposed to pinch yourself?”

“Pinching my own butt is nowhere near as fun as pinching yours.”

Bo was slowly and softly rubbing her derriere where he had just pinched her. It was driving her crazy.

“Did I hurt you?” he asked innocently.

“Nice move, Buchanan. I can’t believe I fell for that!”

“Admit it, Red, you could never resist me or my charms.”

“I suggest you stop talking.”

Nora pulled Bo down onto the bed. She was not scared, she was not nervous. She knew it was right.

They made love for the rest of the evening until they heard Asa barking their names throughout the mansion looking for them.

Nora bolted upright when she heard her name echoing through the halls.

“Bo! I don’t want Asa to find us like this!!!”

She jumped out of the bed searching the floor for her clothes.

“Go hide in the closet” Bo suggested. “I’ll get rid of him.” Bo enjoyed the view as she hurried into the closet.

Bo managed to get his pants and undershirt back on just as Asa started pounding on the locked door.

Bo opened the door. “What is it, pa?” he tried to sound sleepy.

“What are you doing up here, Bo? Sleeping?….half naked. Where’s Nora?”

Asa poked his head in the room and noticed the unmade and very messy bed.

“I guess I had too much to drink and I came up here to get some sleep. Why would Nora be here?”

Asa wasn’t buying it. “Bo, you never have too much to drink.” He pushed his way in and looked around.

“You had to take off your tuxedo to take a little nap?”

“You know how much I hate wearing a monkey suit. No big deal.”

“No big deal, huh?” Asa asked him as he held up a pair of black stockings.

“Those are not mine” Bo joked.

“I should hope not, son, otherwise there’s something you’re not telling me. C’mon, where’s Nora? Or is it another little filly you’ve been seeing.”

“It better not be another little filly!” Nora stated boldly as she revealed herself from the closet, sans pantyhose.

“Well, well, well. It’s about damn time!”

Nora joined Bo by his side. He kissed her.

“Look, we want to keep this private for now. So please keep your mouth shut. And by no means will you say anything to Matthew! Do you understand me?”

Asa smiled. “Yes, yes. You don’t have to worry about me. I won’t say anything. I’ll leave you two alone to finish up or start again, whichever the case may be.” He paused “You know, this is just like old times, isn’t it? I was always walking in on you two. I can die happy now. You gave me a grandchild and you’re back together. My two greatest wishes.”

Bo was pushing him toward the door. “Okay, goodnight.”

“You never could resist us Buchanan’s could you Nora? There’s nothing like a Buchanan man. Come on, admit it!”

“Oh jeez, pa, give it a rest.”

Asa winked at Nora before Bo could close the door in his face.

Nora started to laugh. “Your father cracks me up.”

“Oh yeah, he’s a crack up all right. Now, where were we?” Bo attempted to remove her half-unzipped dress.

“Whoa there, mister. It’s late. I’m sure Matthew is wondering where I am.”

“Okay, I’ll take you home and we can continue in your room.”

“Bo, I don’t know if that’s a good idea. If we’re trying to keep this quiet for now, it doesn’t make sense to go to my house.”

“I’ll sneak in and we’ll be quiet.”

Nora chuckled. “Yeah right.”

“I can’t visit my own son? He won’t figure out anything.”

“I don’t know.”

“I just can’t leave you after tonight. Nora….this was…after so long…wow.”

“I can’t put it into words either.” She kissed him and held him close. “I don’t want to let you go.”

“Then don’t” Bo said, simply.

“We have to go.”

“We don’t HAVE to do anything.”

“You’re making this very difficult.”

“That’s the idea.”

“Bo……..”

“Nora……..”

“You always could make me laugh” she giggled.

“Making you laugh is not what I had in mind right now.”
He pulled her back onto the bed.

“Okay! Okay! Let’s go back to my house. But, you have to promise to be good.”

Bo smirked. “Is that a trick question?”

“Just get dressed and let’s go!”

****
Back at Nora’s place they snuck up the stairs as quietly as possible trying to stifle laughter and kissing like two teenagers sneaking past the girl’s parents.

Around 4:00 am Bo was in the kitchen grabbing some orange juice. When he left the kitchen, he saw Matt in the living room peering out the windows right to the driveway and noticing Bo’s truck.

Bo stood their stymied with two glasses of juice and nowhere to go. He tried to sneak back into the kitchen, but Matt caught him.

“Hi dad.”

Bo just nodded his head. “Hey. What are you doing up so early?” he asked, hoping his face wasn’t turning red.

“I had a feeling you were here.”

“You did? Good guess.”

Nora crept down the stairs. “Bo?” she called, barely in a whisper.

“In here.”

“What are you do…..ing?” her voice trailed off as she saw Matthew.

“Hi honey! What are you doing up?” she asked him acting as if nothing was wrong. “Are you feeling okay?”

“I’m fine, mom.”

Nora looked at Bo with an expression of worry…dread….happiness. She was so confused.

“Good, that’s good. Your father and I were just…well, he stayed over. But in the guest room.”

“Right! The guest room” Bo answered quickly.

Matt looked at them both with doubt. “Does this mean we’re a family?”

Bo and Nora looked at each other and smiled. They knew the time was now to tell him the truth.

“Matthew, the truth is….I love your mother. I finally realized it tonight. I’ve always loved her, but tonight….I told her.”

Matthew smiled the biggest smile he knew how to make. “What about you mom?”

Nora pulled Matthew into her lap and kissed him.
“Honey, other than you and Rachel, I have never loved anyone more than I love your father right now.”

Weeks later….

The family was back at the barn house. Nora and Matthew handed Bo their half of the cornerstone and Bo had his.

They each placed the stones back into the foundation. Bo sealed the brick with cement. He etched ‘BNM 12/31/04’ into the cement before it settled. Matt helped him hold it in place.

The new owners had never replaced that piece of cornerstone in the foundation. Bo and Nora took that as an omen for a very happy ending.

THE END!
