Countdown part 9
Matt: So...(looking at Bo and Nora) what is her name?
Bo and Nora look at each other blankly.
Matt: You guys spent all that time, with all those books, making all those lists (pausing and shaking his head) and you don't have a name...tsk..tsk..tsk...
Matt looks at his sister as she lays in Nora's arms. Again she stares at Matt, almost mesmerized by the site of him.
Matt: Can I hold her?
Nora lifts the baby and hands her to Matt.
Bo: Careful...support her head...
Matt: (looking at Bo and rolling his eyes) Yeah...I read the manuals too...
Bo: Hey...those were not manuals...they were...educational...
Matt: Ok...(looking at the baby) now...let's see here...you need a name...because I refuse to spend the next sixty years of my life calling you baby...
Nora takes Bo's hand as tears form in her eyes. She felt complete. Her biggest fear, Matt resenting the baby, seems to have resolved itself. Bo puts his arm reassuringly around her shoulder.
Matt Takes a step to the chair and sits down, carefully placing the baby on his lap. He gently caresses her face.
Matt: Hey! I think she just smiled at me...
Nora: No doubt...she loves you already...
Matt: (looking at Nora) I love her too...(looking back at his sister) ok little lady, you need a name...and I think I might just have the perfect name for you...
Bo: (whispering to Nora) She doesn't look much like a Sadie...
Nora: (wrinkles her brow before smiling) you can say that again...
Matt: I think you look like a Madison...(he looks up at Bo and Nora for approval) Madison Renee?
Nora: Madison...I love it!
Bo: Madison? Hmmm (touches his chin) Madison Renee Buchanan...Matt...I love it!
Matt: (to Madison) Stick with me kid...I know how to work the folks (he winks at his parents)
Asa and Renee knock on the room door.
Renee: So...can we see our granaddaughter?
Nora: Please....come in and meet her...
Matt stands up with the baby.
Matt: May I have the pleasure of introducing you to Madison Renee Buchanan...(he holds the baby out towards Renee)
Renee: (holds her hand to her chest and looks at Nora and Bo) you...(tears form in her eyes) you named her after me?
Nora: Matthew named her after you...
Renee touches Matt's cheek before taking baby Madison in her arms.
Asa walks over to the bed and bends to give Nora a kiss.
Asa: You made her year...congratulation darlin'. You did a great job.
Nora: Thank you Asa...
Asa: (turns to Bo) Congratulations son...you have a beautiful family...
Bo: I have a perfect family...(he smiles at Nora)
Asa: That you do...(walks back towards Renee and Madison) so woman...do I get to hold my newest little princess?
Renee: Wait your turn! (to the baby) you are just the sweetest little girl...yes you are little Maddie...
Nora: Maddie? (smiling) Maddie and Mattie (she laughs)
Matt: Ma! (making a disgusted face) I do not go by Mattie anymore!
Nora: Yes dear...
Bo: (kissing Nora) If you will excuse me for a moment...it's been a long morning...
Nora: Are you going home?
Bo: I was going ot go shower and shave and clean up a bit...
Nora: You wouldn't want to stop and bring me something to eat, would you?
Bo: If this involves pea soup, garlic dressing or any other repulsive smelling....
Nora: No! No...(to Renee) No offense meant...(to Bo) but the thought of eating pea soup...ugh...
Renee: (laughing) No offense taken...I knew it would pass!
Asa: Can I please hold my granddaughter?
Renee: (frowning at him) Fine...She and I will bond more later...
Bo: (to Nora) Whaddya want to eat Red?
Nora: Could you stop at Rodi's and get me one of those big juicy greasy cheeseburgers...a large order of fries with extra cheese sauce and the biggest carryout draft rootbeer they have?
Bo: I can make it two...
Nora smiles at him.
Matt: (to Bo) Can I hitch a ride with you?
Bo: Sure...
Matt: (to Nora) Can Stacy come back up with me?
Nora: Yes...
Matt: Alright!
Bo: (kissing Nora) I absolutely love you beyond belief...
Nora: Same here...
Bo: (to Madison) Welcome baby...I love you...(to Matt) let's go son...
Bo and Matthew leave the hospital room. Nora and Renee and Asa take turns holding baby Madison and making a fuss over her. Asa talks about how she is going to be pampered and spoiled just like Jessica. Nora reminds him that she will decide how spoiled her daughter will be, but thanks him for his generosity.
Selma and Len call in. They can't wait to come see their newest granddaughter. They all agreed that they would come out on the weekend.
Rachel called next to welcome her newest sibling. She also surprised Nora by telling her she was getting engaged to a nice guy she met at work. Nora insisted that Rachel bring him with when she came out with her grandparents. She also asked if Hank knew of this situation. Rachel assured her mother that if Len liked the guy, there would be no doubt Hank would love him, now Bo though, that was another story. They guy didn't like fishing or hunting, to which Nora exclaimed "I love him already!"
The nurse came into the room to let Nora know she was going to take the baby to the nursery in a few minutes. Asa and Renee took it as their cue to give Nora a few hours of sleep. Quite possibly the last she would have in a while!
Asa: We'll see you and Madison when you get home (he leans and kisses her onthe cheek) you did a great job...
Renee: Thank you for the namesake (kissing Nora) she's a beautiful little girl and don't you worry, her crystal blue eyes that she got from her daddy are not going to change...
Nora: I hope not...Bo's eye just do it for me...I want her to work that back on him!
Renee: I have no doubt she will have him wrapped around her little finger before you even leave the hospital...we'll see you at home dear...
Nora: Thank you Renee...
Nora sits and holds Madison.
Nora: Hey beautiful...(she takes the baby's tiny hand in hers) you look like your brother...'sept for this little tuft of hair (she winds the little puff of hair around her finger) but its the same color as your daddy and your brother...(whispering to the baby) and your mommy, but don't tell anyone...that'll be our little secret (she kisses Madison on the forehead) I love you so much...
Bo walks into the room.
Nora: (looking up) That was quick...
Bo: It's been almost two hours...
Nora: Wow...the time really flies...
Bo: You wanna eat and I'll hold Madison?
Nora: Sure.
Bo put the styrofoam boxes down on the bed table and washes his hands. He walks over to the bed and takes Madison in his arms. He sits in the chair and stares at the baby.
Nora: (to Madison) Get used to is Maddie...he stares a lot (she opens the box and eats a fry)
Bo: Ha ha ha...(looking at Madison) you are beautiful...you look like your mom...(he looks up and smiles at Nora as she eats the burger) so delicate (he touches her tiny fingers) so perfect (he glides his finger along the baby's tiny cheek) so like your mom...
Nora: I think she looks like you...
Bo: Sshh...don't curse my daughter!
Nora: (chuckles) Are you happy?
Bo: Am I happy? Red...I am euphoric!! I mean...I can't even explain how elated I am...my life is perfect...absolutely perfect...I am married to a woman who...who...
Nora: Who put you through hell and back the past nine months...
Bo: Nah...I am married to a woman who never manages to surprise me (he points to Madison) a woman who I love more than life itself...Nora...you are my life...in every sense of the word...you are my life, my love...everything I could have ever dreamed of....
Nora puts down the fry she was about to eat and wipes her eye witht he paper napkin.
Bo: And if that didn't make me the luckiest stiff in the world...a couple years ago I find out that the kid that I spent nights dreaming was mine, that the kid I wanted to mean the world to, that he could look up to and trust and come to...the kid I watched go through his own hell and back...I find out he is mine! Really and truly...no doubt about it, my son...
He lifts Madison to his face and gently kisses her cheek.
Bo: Finally, I am struck with impecible luck a third time with this little angel. Madison is everything I hoped for...and more. And she is going to be loved and spoiled and pampered til the day I die. It was like some one up there looked at me, this shmuck that seemed to screw up every relationship he'd ever been in, that seemed to hurt anyone he ever loved, like they looked down and said "Hang on...we're gonna give Buchanan the lion's share"...and here I am...a drop dead gorgeous wife, an incredibly wonderful son that I love so very much and this perfect little wonder in my arms...I don't think happy begins to explain it...I love you Red...
Nora: I love you too Commish...It was worth it...all of it...to get to here....
The nurse walks in.
Nurse: Oh! I see you have something to eat!
Bo: Room service?
Nurse: That's the beauty of labor and delivery...you can have outside food (she smiles sweetly) and that smells heavenly....Rodi's?
Nora: (swallowing a bite of burger) Yes...
Nurse: The best place for burgers! (walking over to Bo) ok daddy...time for this little angel to go to the nursery...(she takes the baby from Bo's arms as he kisses Madison on the head) Nora, can I see your bracelet?
Nora shows the nurse her arm who compares it to the baby's bracelet and then leaves with the baby.
Nora: I am so glad they do that...
Bo: (walking over to the bed and taking his food from the table) What's that? (he steals one of her fries)
Nora: Hey! (he kisses her in exchange for the fry) Mmmm...want another fry?
Bo: No...but I do want another kiss
He moves closer to her and brushes her lips with his. Nora lifts her hand to Bo's neck and presses her lips tightly to his. They don't hear the knock on the door.
Hank: (clears his throat) Trying for another already?
Bo: (puts the box down and turns toward the door) Hank! You old....(he takes a step toward Hank and extends his hand)
Hank sets down the teddy bear he was carrying and shakes Bo's hand.
Hank: (stepping past Bo and handing Nora a bouquet) Hey beautiful....(he leans and kisses Nora on the cheek) how you feelin'?
Nora: I feel like I want to go dancing!
Bo: (smiling and grabbing his food again before sitting across the room) we will...soon...
Hank: (looking at Bo) You know...she looked beautiful pregnant...but now...she's absolutely glowing! (Bo smiles at Hank's compliment)
Nora: Thank you...you just missed seeing her...
Hank: Her?
Nora: (playfully slapping Hank) You're his best friend...please do not pretend you didn't know!
Hank: You got me...so...when is Sadie coming back?
Bo: (shaking his head as he swallows a fry and wipes his mouth) No...not Sadie...Madison...Madison Renee....
Hank: Madison...that is beautiful.
Nora: Matt named his sister...
Hank: Very cool...were is the big guy?
Bo: Stacy...
Hank: The boy is whipped....
Bo: Quite....
Nora: You two stop...
Hank: Like father... like son
Nora: Hank...
Bo: And like you're not completely at Lisa's beck and call?
Hank: That's harsh...
Nora: Alright guys...I am going to get some sleep...feel free to continue the testosterone olympics...
Bo: Wanna go get a beer?
Hank: (scratching his chin) sounds good to me....
Bo: You mind Red?
Nora: I want to sleep...they'll be bringing Madison back soon enough...
Bo: (kissing her on the cheek) page me when they do?
Nora: You got it...love you...
Bo: You too...
Hank: I'll talk to you later babe...
Nora: Thanks for the flowers and the teddy bear...Madison will love it...
Hank and Bo head to back to Rodi's to get a beer while Nora lies back for some much needed rest.
