- "The Others
and The Other Side"
-
- Bo wrapped his arms lovingly
around Noras waist. He led her into the garret with the
blindfold still covering her eyes.
-
- Bo can I please take
off this stupid blindfold?
-
- Okay Red here you go!
He snatched the blindfold away and waited for her reaction to
his surprise.
-
- She looked around with a
puzzled look as she realized where they were. Bo? What
are we doing at your old place?
-
- His face fell immediately.
He had worried that she might not want to live here. It was after
all the place where he had lived with The Others.
Somehow he had managed to convince himself it would be okay because
they had agreed to leave the past in the past. He wanted the
three of them to start their new life together so badly he hadnt
wanted to wait to find a new place. Since he still owned the
garret he thought them moving in here would speed up the process
of making all his dreams come true. How could he have been stupid
enough to think she would want to live here.
-
- Im sorry Red
I guess I didnt think this through. I wanted us to be a
real family in a real home so bad I got carried away. Lets
go and we can start looking for a new place to live tomorrow.
-
- Wait just a minute
Buchanan. Dont I get to say anything?
-
- He spun around to face her
wrath. Of course Honey. Go ahead.
-
- She broke into a wide smile
and slowly walked over, put her arms around his neck and pulled
him close. First of all, the fact that you did this for
me, for us, means the world to me. I told you Id live with
you in a tepee and this is much nicer than a tepee. Second, you
and Matthew have a lot of happy memories here and I love that
you are willing to share that with me. Third, your past is just
that
past, we cant hold on to who was where with who
or anything to do with The Others. And last but certainly
not least, I dreamed that one day I would live here with you
and Matthew
-
- Really?
-
- Yes. Remember the night
we checked Asa into the hospital? I had that big fight with Daniel
and ended up coming over and playing video games with you and
Matthew?
-
- Of course I remember.
I was so happy you agreed to stay over and I kept peeking into
the guest room to watch you sleep.
-
- You did?
-
- Yep
-
- Well, when I woke up
and realized where I was. I just lay in your guest room and dreamed
that I wasnt there as a guest, but that we lived here together
as a family.
-
- Why didnt you
tell me that?
-
- "Probably the same reason
you didn't tell me you watched me sleep."
-
- Bo reached out and pulled
Nora even closer. He held her so tight that he realized he might
be hurting her.
-
- Sorry Red. I didnt
mean to squeeze so hard. I just dont want us to ever let
go of each other again. I love you Red.
-
- I love you too Bo.
Now what is that big pile of pillows and blankets doing on the
floor in this big empty room?
-
- That
thats
for after.
-
- After? After what Buchanan?
-
- This. He walked
over and flipped on the CD player. When she heard the familiar
melody to When a Man Loves a Woman tears filled her
eyes. Bo pulled Nora close and they danced around in the empty
garret just like they had in the Barn all those years ago. When
the song ended he pulled back to look into her eyes.
-
- Im sorry about
the lack of furniture but I didnt want anything to get
in the way of our abandon.
-
- The only thing you
have to be sorry about is not throwing me down on this pile of
pillows and making mad passionate love to me.
-
- Well I wouldnt
want to disappoint you. He started to pull her down onto
the makeshift bed, but stopped when he felt her hesitate.
-
- What is it Red?
-
- Bo, are you
you
know
nervous?
-
- A little. I dont
know why. Its not as if we havent done this a time
or two. He winked at her and gave her that smile that made
her feel like a million bucks.
-
- I know Bo, but its
been so long. Im not as young as I used to be and well
Im
not in the same kind of shape I was the last time we were together.
-
- You arent the
only one who has aged a bit Red. The love handles I had the last
time we made love are grab bars now!
-
- She laughed remembering how
he could always laugh at himself and loved him all the more for
trying to ease her fears. Bo, you are still the most handsome
man I have ever seen and THE sexiest man alive.
-
- Thank you very much
Red. When I look at you I see a gorgeous desirable woman with
the greatest legs Ive ever seen. You are still the most
beautiful woman I have ever known inside and out.
-
- With that he lowered her
to the floor and they made love like they had so many times before.
-
- Bo ran his fingers softly
through Noras hair. She lay with her head nestled on his
shoulder running her fingers across his chest.
-
- Nora spoke softly I
was afraid it wouldnt be as wonderful, but it was.
-
- Well I knew better.
God I missed you Red.
-
- Nora laughed. I think
Im experiencing déjà vu.
-
- You want déjà
vu? Ill give you déjà vu and with that
he rolled over on top of her.
-
- Bo
Bo
Wait
a minute. Im thirsty. I dont suppose you stocked
the refrigerator with root beer?
-
- Of course I did. Who
do you think youre dealing with here? Im not some
amateur roommate. Im the best and last roomie you will
ever have.
-
- Except for Matt.
-
- Oh yeah HIM. Well he
isnt here right now so go get your root beer and get back
over here so we can enjoy ourselves in our new home before someone
interrupts us. This may be the only time we EVER get to be alone
here.
-
- She giggled as she headed
for the kitchen. OUCH! Buchanan whats the big idea
of leaving this box in the middle of the floor?
What box?
-
- This box wise guy.
Brown, square, the one I stubbed my toe on.
-
- Come here and let Dr.
BoBo kiss it and make it all better. He bent down and brought
her toes up to his lips and began kissing and gently sucking
on them. She was getting pretty worked up from the attention
he was giving her foot when he suddenly stopped noticing the
box.
- Where did this box
come from?
-
- She looked at him and rolled
her eyes. Gee Bo. I dont know. I certainly didnt
put it there.
-
- He looked inside and burst
out laughing. Judging by the contents Im guessing
Delphina left it here.
-
- Why? Whats in
there a crystal ball?
-
- No not a crystal ball,
but plenty of crystals and other uh
psychic paraphernalia.
-
- Psychic paraphernalia?
What exactly is Psychic paraphernalia, Commissioner?
-
- You know tarot cards,
tea leaves all that crap.
-
- Nora laughed at Bos
description of the contents. Her phone started to ring Shoot!
I knew it couldnt last."
-
- "Nora Buchanan.
-
- His head dropped as he heard
her say she would be right there. She looked at him with her
best pouty face Sweetheart Im sorry. I have to run
to the office, but I wont be gone long and Ill bring
back Chinese.
-
- Some things never change
I guess. Oh Oh Thank you Bo. Thats the story of my life!
-
- She laughed until she thought
she might pee remembering his potential as a postal examiner.
You kill me Buchanan, but Ive got to run. Be good
until I get back. With that she was dressed and out the
door.
- Bo sat on the floor in his
boxers a contented smile on his face. He absent mindedly picked
up some of Delphinas crystals and began rubbing them together
in his hands. He thought about all the fun they had their first
time around. He was snapped back from his thoughts when he heard
a familiar booming voice.
-
- Whats with the
cockamamie grin Bo?
-
- Pa?
-
- Its me boy. Whod
you think it was some Rappascum?
-
- What the hell. This
cant be happening Pa. I said goodbye to you back in Texas.
-
- Im here because
you called me just like that crazy Delphina does. What are you
looking at boy? Your mouths gapped open wider than a two dollar
suitcase.
-
- I cant believe
youre here Pa.
-
- Well I am and now I
can finally say I told you so and you my boy HAVE to finally
admit your old Pa was right all along.
-
- Right about what Pa?
-
- Right about what! Boy
you are thicker than molasses in the winter time. Right about
you and Nora of course.
-
- Oh. That.
-
- Oh That!! Boy, that
little filly made all your dreams come true. You got that boy
of yours healthy, happy and under your roof with his mama and
daddy just like a real family. You got out of doing that stupid
job of yours. You got the woman of your dreams back in your bed
or in your case on your floor. You two never could
just do things the normal way could you? Now if you just go apologize
to your brother everything will be just fine.
-
- Pa my job isnt
stupid and Im not apologizing to Clint anymore. Last time
I tried he threatened to shoot me then punched me in the mouth.
-
- Come on now Bo you
know that gun wasnt loaded and you did steal his wife.
-
- She was my wife first
Pa!
-
- Yeah and if you hadnt
been such a mule and listened to your old Pa you could have gotten
her back a long time ago and she would have never been with your
brother.
-
- Youre right Pa,
but Clint should have never married her. He knew we were still
in love. He told her so and he told Viki he knew it.
-
- Bo, I tried to fix
it all that night at the lodge, but I got the two most stubborn
sons God ever put on the face of the earth.
-
- The Lodge?
-
- I tried to show you
all the error of your ways with that banner. Then I knocked the
lights out so you and Nora, and Clint and Viki could have a little
alone time. I had it all laid out for you boys and you both screwed
it up. I know that bit of spit swappin you did with Nora was
a nice start, but then you just let her walk away like you always
did. At the wedding Dorian got all liquored up and said exactly
what I would have said if I was there, but instead of being a
man and taking back your woman you just let her marry your brother.
Now Clints madder than a bear with a sore paw, but hell
get over it. Just give him time. Remember son a man only gets
so many chances at love and happiness. Dont screw it up
this time.
-
- Wait Pa. Bo looked
around the garret and realized Asa was gone again. Asa had finally
got the last word about him and Nora. He was sitting on the floor
grinning, remembering his father when she walked in carrying
all their favorite dishes.
-
- She saw his smile and said
Whats up handsome? I havent seen that look
on your face in a long long time. She put down the food,
walked over and sat beside him on the floor.
-
- I was just sitting
here thinking Im the luckiest guy on the face of the earth.
-
- Well I guess that makes
me the luckiest GAL on the face of the earth.
-
- He reached over pulled her
onto his lap and whispered in her ear Hey Red I got an
idea.
-
- Ooh I think I like
the sound of this. She panted back.
-
- He looked her directly in
the eyes Lets live happily ever after and grow old
together. Okay?
-
- She began to unbutton her
blouse and slip out of her skirt. That sounds really really
good Buchanan, but Im not quite ready for the rollerblades
and heart shaped sunglasses and you my friend arent in
need of a pacemaker just yet. She began nibbling on his
neck until he lay back pulling her on top of him.
-
- Speak for yourself
Red because Im pretty sure my heart just skipped a few
beats.
-
- The End.
