As Time Flies.....Fan Fiction.....Chapter 22

Last time: Nora dumped Sam like yesterday's garbage. Sam blamed Bo and lashed out at both Bo and Nora. Bo comforted Nora.

Llanview Hospital - 4th Floor Nurses Station

The nurse looked up from her paperwork and saw Sam Rappaport get into the elevator. Good. One down and one to go. She didn't have long to wait. About fifteen minutes later, she barely saw the Police Commissioner get into the elevator. She almost missed him. She had been filing charts and was standing behind a shelf. Whew! That was close. The coast was finally clear. It was time.

Llanview Hospital - Room #414

Viki had stayed long past visiting hours. She was grateful no one had kicked her out. She hadn't wanted to leave Ben for a second, but she could see now that he was tired and wanted to rest. She knew she should go home, but she hated to leave him. God, she loved him! She'd sell her soul if she could make Ben well. Viki wanted to spend the rest of her life with him, and she fervently hoped it would be a long one.

Ben was sitting up in bed. Viki leaned down and kissed him. "I'm gonna go, honey. It's late. You try and get some rest, okay? I'll be back first thing in the morning. I love you." Viki kissed him again and clutched him to her.

She hated sleeping without him for even one night, let alone for a lifetime. Viki knew that horrible thought would haunt her and she wouldn't be able to sleep a wink. It was going to be a long night.

Ben hugged Viki back, hard. He knew how tough this was for her, and he loved her so much. He was going to miss her tonight. He hated sleeping without her, too.

"Good night, Blondie. Sleep tight, okay? I'll see you in the morning. Don't worry, everything is going to be fine. I promise." Ben smiled. He wanted to be strong for her.

Ben watched Viki as she walked to the door. She blew him a kiss and walked out. He watched the empty space where she had been, thinking his life would be so empty without her. Ben's eyelids drooped. As the door swung closed, Ben saw a nurse go into Nora's room. He thought she looked like Lindsay at a quick glance. Well, people said everyone had a twin. That was his last thought before he fell asleep.

Llanview Hospital - Room #416

Nora's room was dark. She had been sleeping for about an hour. She didn't hear the nurse come in and go about her business. The nurse gently fluffed Nora's pillows. She removed one from behind Nora's head and placed it on her stomach, then she disconnected the call button with a pair of scissors. She pulled a syringe from her pocket and tested the flow. Liquid spurted from the tip of the needle.

The sense of déjà vu was overwhelming, but she stayed focused. She wanted to laugh when she thought how easy it had been to get in here. The stupid guard had come in and asked if she'd watch Ms. Buchanan while he went to the bathroom. She couldn't believe her luck. She'd expected to have to work a little harder to pull it off. This was too easy! And this time, nothing would go wrong. She'd make sure of it. She put her hand over her mouth so she wouldn't laugh out loud and wake the patient. She needed the element of surprise.

She gathered her momentum and in one swift motion jammed the needle into Nora's arm. Nora's eyes flew open.

Nora screamed as the pillow was slammed onto her face. "You!"

The pillow muffled the sound. Nora was disoriented and groggy, but she forced her brain to kick into gear. She knew she'd have to act fast if she was going to survive this time. A rage like nothing she'd ever felt before overcame her. She felt a burst of adrenaline sear through her body, and she thrashed like a trout caught on a fishing line.

She couldn't see and she couldn't breathe. She flung her cast across her body and she heard a crack. She had connected! Suddenly the pressure on the pillow released and she could breathe. She threw the pillow off as she pulled the needle out of her arm. It landed on the floor and made a pinging sound.

Nora whipped her head around and saw Lindsay charging at her with a pair of scissors. She was bleeding from the side of her head. Nora's breathing was heavy. She screamed but no sound came out of her mouth. Lindsay lunged and tried to stab the scissors into Nora's shoulder but Nora shifted just in time. The scissors plunged into the soft mattress.

Lindsay started shrieking. She grabbed Nora by the throat and started squeezing. "You bitch! Why won't you die? Ahhhh!"

Nora gagged and tried to break free, but Lindsay tightened her grip. Nora took a deep breath and summoned her strength. She propelled her arm with all her might. The force of the blow reverberated up her arm as her cast once again connected with Lindsay's skull.

Lindsay's eyes rolled back into her head. She crumpled onto the floor. Blood was oozing from her head. It was more blood than Nora had ever seen. Nora briefly wondered if Lindsay was dead. For a fleeting moment, she hoped so. Nora heard somebody screaming, then realized it was her own voice. Unconsciousness enveloped her. She passed out.

Llanview Hospital - Room #416

Several hours had passed and Nora was still unconscious. Bo sat next to Nora's bed. He was crying openly. He couldn't believe Lindsay had struck again. He had never in his life imagined anyone could be so sick and demented! He was shocked when he had gotten the call. The news had come like a blow to his gut, and Bo had literally doubled over when he heard that Lindsay had attacked Nora and tried to kill her again.

At that moment, Bo had wanted to kill Judge Fitzwater for granting Lindsay's bail and making round two possible. He also wanted to kill the cop who had been assigned to guard Nora. At the very least, he was going to fire him first thing in the morning.

Bo had rushed to the hospital, but Lindsay had already been taken away for surgery. From what he'd been told, Nora had done a number on her. Bo smiled through his tears at Nora's determination. She was one tough lady! He too, thought it was unfortunate that Lindsay wasn't dead. She deserved to be.

Larry had been working late that night and had rushed to the scene. Nora hadn't been physically hurt by the attack, but some of the cyanide had made it into her bloodstream. Larry didn't think Nora would be in a coma this time, but he said she was probably going to have to sleep off the effects of the poison as well as the battle. Her body had taken a beating, but she'd come through once again. Nora was a fighter.

Bo held Nora's hand and cried silently into the blanket. He was shaking. He couldn't believe how close he had come to losing her again. He felt such rage every time he thought about what Lindsay had done to them. If it weren't for her sick vendetta against Nora, none of this would be happening! Lindsay had tampered with his sperm test and Matthew's DNA test, then she'd kidnapped Nora and had tried to kill her not once, but twice. Bo was sickened by her behavior, and he vowed to himself that she would never be able to hurt Nora, or anyone, ever again if it was the last thing he did.

Bo was deep in thought. He was jarred back to the present when he felt Nora stir. Her hand moved in his. He snapped his head up and saw Nora was coming to. Her eyelids were heavy but they slowly fluttered open.

"Bo?" Nora whispered.

Bo's head slumped down in relief. "Red! Thank God you're back!" He smiled as he raised his head and squeezed her hand.

Nora could see Bo's face was wet. She was surprised, but she attributed it to the excitement and the exhaustion of the day. "You didn't think you'd get rid of me that easy, did you?" Nora smiled.

Bo just stared at Nora. It was so good to see her alive. He had wanted to die himself when he thought he might have lost her again. He wasn't going to take that chance again.

"Bo? Are you okay?" Nora was concerned. Bo seemed really down. Maybe he was worried about Lindsay. The memory of what happened flooded her brain. She remembered seeing Lindsay lying in a pool of blood. Oh my God, was she dead?

Bo didn't answer. He just kept staring at Nora. Nora was starting to feel weird. "Bo? How's Lindsay? Is she…?" Nora trailed off. Nora didn't even want to think of the possibility.

"Huh? What?" Bo looked like he was a million miles away.

"Bo! Are you okay? I asked you about Lindsay. Did I…?" Nora couldn't bring herself to say it. She held her breath.
