As Time Flies.....Chapter 30

Last time: Asa and Renée gained a son while Sam lost a brother. After losing both Matthew and Ben, Sam lost his temper and assaulted Asa. Bo arrested Sam and took him to jail. Bo appreciated his good fortune.

Llanview Hospital – Room #416

Nora awoke to the smell of fresh coffee. Bo was sitting by her bed sipping a to-go cup of Carlotta’s delicious coffee. He was smiling, but Nora could see Bo was a million miles away.

“Mmm! That smells delish. Got one for me?” Nora smiled and reached for his hand.

Bo snapped back to the present. He leaned over and kissed her. “Good morning, Red! I sure do. Right here.” Bo took the lid off of another coffee and handed it to Nora. “How do you feel today, honey?”

“So far, so good. I think I’ll know more after I drink this.” Nora laughed. The memory of yesterday’s revelations came flooding back to her. What a day! “Bo, how are you feeling? Yesterday was quite an amazing day, wouldn’t you say?” Nora laughed and squeezed Bo’s hand.

Bo smiled. “It sure was, Red. I’m still trying to sort everything out.”

“How are you doing? Are you okay with everything? About Matthew, I mean.”

“I’m thrilled about Matthew, Red! I’m so happy he’s my son that I want to shout from the rooftops and pass out cigars to everyone I see.” Bo laughed. He was ecstatic about being a father, especially having Nora as his son’s mother. He felt complete. He finally had everything he’d ever wanted, and nothing was going to destroy it this time.

“Hey, how’s Sam? And where’s Matthew? The last thing I remember is falling asleep holding him.” Nora smiled at the memory.

Bo smiled too. They’d made such a picture! “Well, Sam is in still in jail, but I’m sure he’ll be out after his arraignment this morning. I took the liberty of taking Matthew home last night, and now he’s with Mary Ann. She said she’d bring him by later.”

“The liberty? It’s not a liberty anymore, Bo. Matthew is your son, and you have every right to take him home.
Especially with Sam in jail, I guess it actually worked out for the best, didn’t it? This way Sam couldn’t have put up a fight.” Nora winced. “Oops, guess that was a bad choice of words, huh?”

Bo laughed. “I think Sam was going to jail yesterday one way or another, Red. Between Ben and Matthew, he took it pretty hard. And with Asa around? I’d say we’re lucky it was only assault and not murder!” Bo and Nora laughed in unison.

“What do you think will happen once Sam gets out, Bo? I want this to be as easy on Matthew as possible. Somehow I don’t think that Sam is going to make this very easy, do you?” Nora frowned.

“I don’t know, Red. I hope a night in jail was enough for Sam to focus and get himself together. I know this can’t be easy for him. I was awake most of last night, and that was one of the things I kept thinking about. I couldn’t imagine being in his shoes right now. And with Sam’s temper, I’d say just about anything is possible.”

“Why were you awake, Bo? Did Matthew keep you awake on his first night with his Daddy?” Nora laughed. “You’d probably better get used to it!”

Bo laughed. “Well, part of it was I was so happy to be with him that I didn’t want to waste a second of it by sleeping. Matthew was really very good. I made a little bed for him on the couch, and he slept like an angel. I just couldn’t sleep with everything on my mind.”

Nora smiled at the mental picture. “I know. A lot happened yesterday. You gained a son and a brother all in one day. Sam lost a son and a brother. Although I don’t see why Ben and Sam can’t remain close, in spite of the circumstances. I hope Sam can come to terms with all of this, and Ben, too. It can’t be easy for either of them, but I’m so happy for Renée! Ben is going to make a nice addition to the family. Oh boy, I wonder what Asa is gonna do to Max!” Nora laughed.

Bo laughed, too. “I’m sure it won’t be pretty, but right now I could care less about Max. What I do care about is you and Matthew. I love you, Red. And I love our son. I’ll never let anything tear us apart ever again. You have my solemn promise. What we have is far too precious, and it took your “dying” to make me realize it. I let you down, and I’m gonna spend the rest of my life making it up to you.” Bo kissed Nora and squeezed her hand.

“I let you down too, Bo, and I’m sorry. I can’t believe you really forgive me. I never stopped loving you, and I never will. I’m such a lucky woman! I can’t wait to get out of this hospital so I can start making it up to you too,
Commissioner.” Nora smiled.

“You’re not the only lucky one, Red. With all the making up that’s gonna be going on, we’re gonna be exhausted! And I can’t wait!” Bo laughed and gave Nora a lascivious look.

Nora laughed too. She couldn’t wait to get well. Making love to Bo was the thing she wanted to do most in the world. If necessary, she’d work 24 hours a day to heal her body. She smiled and squeezed Bo’s hand. Life was finally back on track, and it was going to be sweet.

Six Months Later

After months of intense physical therapy, Nora was back to her old self. Her body was back to normal, and so was her relationship with Bo. Nora walked down the aisle under her own steam and married Bo in a beautiful ceremony filled with laughter and music. It was the happiest day of their lives. They moved back into their house with Matthew and began life as a family.

Ben and Viki got married as well, after Ben underwent a successful bone marrow transplant and Viki went into full remission. Asa learned to accept Ben and even love him. Ben loved having Renée as his mother, but was still trying to come to terms with his feelings for Asa. Ben had just made it to tolerance, and was trying hard to work it into genuine love for the old man, but the old coot wasn’t making it easy. They were presently arguing over the living arrangements, as Asa wanted Ben and Viki to move into his mansion. Ben and Viki were adamantly opposed, preferring to live at Llanfair. Some things never changed.

Colin was sentenced to 20 years without parole for the kidnapping of Nora. Melanie divorced him and got everything. She sold the house and all of her belongings, and moved to Africa to continue Audrey Hepburn’s fight for the hungry and diseased children of Ethiopia.

Max should have been sentenced to 20 years for defrauding Asa, but Asa took pity on both him and Blair. Asa gave Max the job of being Nigel’s assistant, and Blair took a job as a scullery maid. They cooked, cleaned, and waited hand-and-foot on Asa, Renée, and Nigel. Nigel loved it, and discovered that he had a compulsive desire to have the same pair of his shoes shined over and over again.

Lindsay remained in the hospital for several months, healing from her injuries. After seeing Colin sentenced to 20 years just for kidnapping, she knew she’d be facing much worse for the additional two charges of attempted murder. She tried to escape and leave the country, but she was busted at the airport when the metal plate in her head set off the airport security detector.

Sam never spoke to Ben, Bo, or Nora again. He felt both betrayed and embarrassed. Judge Fitzwater sentenced Sam to six months in jail for assaulting Asa Buchanan. While incarcerated at Statesville, Sam thought it would be perfect time to have his teeth worked on. Unfortunately, he was raped by the prison dentist, and neither he nor his dentures were ever the same again. After his release, he eloped with Madame Delphina and they started their very own online psychic network, www.clackingcrystalballs.com.
