He Forgot

1996 in Llanview, PA

Nora walked into her office without paying any attention to Kay. Nora threw her briefcase on the couch and sat down behind her desk. Kay walked in tentatively with a cup of coffee in her hands.

KAY: I come bearing gifts.

NORA: At least somebody does.

KAY: What does that mean?

NORA: He forgot. He totally forgot.

KAY: I can’t believe it. Bo didn’t say a thing?

NORA: Not a word. We woke up, we made love, we took a shower and we went to work.

KAY (smiling): At least you made love in the morning. That’s a nice present.

NORA: We do that every morning.

KAY (surprised): You do?

NORA: I just can’t believe that he forgot.

KAY: Maybe you should have said something.

NORA: I don’t want to have to say something to remind him. I wanted Bo to remember all by himself.

KAY: That would be nice…but he’s a guy. Guys aren’t good with these things.

NORA: I don’t want to think about it any more. Let’s get going on that brief I need to file on Friday. That’ll take my mind off of Bo.

KAY (to herself): Like that will ever happen. (to Nora): Anything you say boss.

About four hours later Kay is at her desk when Bo walks in. Kay gives him the evil eye.

BO (pointing at Nora’s door): Is she alone?

KAY: Yes… you can go on in.

Bo walks in and smiles at Nora hard at work. Nora looks up and gives him a small smile.

BO: Hey beautiful. Think a cop can buy the pretty lady lawyer lunch?

NORA (smiling): Lunch?

BO: Yea…I have an hour before I need to be back for a meeting so I thought maybe we could do lunch at the diner or Rodi’s.

NORA (disappointed): Oh…

BO: What? Rodi’s lose its appeal?

NORA: No…it’s not that. Rodi’s is fine.

Bo takes Nora’s hand and leads her out. Kay glowers at Bo again as they walk out. Bo just smirks. Bo helps Nora into the car and heads out of the parking lot. They drive for a while…making small talk. All of a sudden Nora realizes that they drove right past Rodi’s.

NORA: Hey…I thought we were going to Rodi’s?

Bo takes Nora’s hand in his and kisses it.

BO: Can you do me a favor?

NORA: What?

BO: Can you call Kay and tell her that I didn’t forget?

NORA: Bo….?

BO (smiling): I saw the way she looked at me. Oh…and tell her to clear your schedule for today and tomorrow. You won’t be in the office.

NORA: Bo…?

The car comes to a stop at the stoplight and Bo looks over and smiles at her. He leans over and gently kisses her.

BO: I can’t believe that you actually thought that I would forget our anniversary.

NORA (smiling softly): Well when you didn’t say anything this morning I just figured….

BO: That I had forgotten. Ah Red….what am I going to do with you?

NORA: Forgive me for doubting you?

BO: You are soooo going to have to make this up to me Mrs. Buchanan.

NORA (smiling): Oh really? Not sure you can handle all the making up Mr. Buchanan.

BO: Just try me.

Bo and Nora get to the airport and board Asa’s private jet. Nora gives a relieved Kay a call and fills her in on as many details as she knows. Kay agrees to clear Nora’s schedule and tells her to enjoy herself.

Bo and Nora re-initiate themselves into the Mile High Club before they land at LaGuardia airport. The limo is there to pick them up and takes them to the Tavern on the Green. They get a window seat in the Crystal Room overlooking Central Park. They dine on Cobb Salad and Herb Crusted Salmon….each stealing bites off the other’s plate.

Nora leans over and kisses Bo deeply.

NORA: This is simply incredible. I can’t believe that you did this.

BO: Only the best for you my love. I’d have to say that this is better than burgers at Rodi’s huh?

NORA: I’ll say. You sure know the way to my heart. I love you so much.

BO (kissing her deeply): I love you too Red but this is only the beginning my dear. Only the beginning….

Bo takes Nora’s hand and entwines his fingers with hers as he escorts her outside. There…waiting for them…is a beautiful white horse and carriage. Nora looks at Bo and smiles.

NORA: I’ve always wanted to take a carriage ride through Central Park.

BO: I know. You told me that the last time we were here but we never got around to doing it.

Bo and Nora snuggle together in the seat as the driver leads them past the Wollman Skating Ring, the Carousel, the Pond, the Zoo, Sheep's Meadow, Mall the Dairy and the Dakota (where the ex-Beatle John Lennon lived).

Had Bo and Nora not spent so much time making out they would have also seen the Bandshell, The Conservatory Water, The Boathouse, The Bethesda Terrace and Fountain, Cherry Hill, Strawberry Fields, and Trump International Hotel and Tower. But they didn’t mind that they missed it. They had much better things on their mind as they continued to hold each other close.

NORA: Have I told you that I loved you?

BO: I think so but maybe you better remind me.

Nora takes Bo face in her hands and kisses him deeply.

NORA: I love you Bo Buchanan with everything that I am. Don’t ever forget that…okay?

BO: I will never forget. Ever. Just as long as you don’t forget that I love you just as much.

Nora snuggles into Bo as he wraps his arms around her.

NORA: This has been the most incredible day. And to think that I thought you had forgotten.

BO (smiling): You ain’t seen nothing yet.

The carriage pulls up to Pier 81 on the Hudson River. Bo takes Nora’s hand and helps her out of the carriage. Bo gives the livery man a huge tip and leads Nora down the pier until they reach the yacht Inamorata. Bo helps Nora onto the yacht and then gives the captain the high sign that they are ready to depart. Within minutes the yacht pulls away from the pier and into the harbor. Bo leads her to the top deck where a private table is set up. Music is softly playing in the background.

NORA: We have this boat to ourselves?

BO: Just you and me and a few hands to make the journey a little more comfortable. Are you hungry?

NORA: No…I think I just want to dance with you for a while. You think we can do that?

Bo smiles as he pulls her close. The yacht passes the Statue of Liberty, the United Nations Building, the Empire State Building, under the Brooklyn Bridge, the Chrysler Building and around the tip of Manhattan Island.

But again…Bo and Nora are totally oblivious to everything that is going on around them. They are just enjoying being together. Nora pulls back and looks Bo in the eyes.

NORA: This has been the best year of my life. I never thought I would ever be this happy…this complete.

BO: I never thought I would find the kind of love that I have with you. Never in my life….

As they were dancing and kissing, the steward came out with their dinner. Bo and Nora reluctantly stopped dancing to enjoy their meal. The appetizers included Mesclun Salad with goat cheese, wild mushroom ravioli, jumbo shrimp cocktail, lobster bisque and caviar sauce. Nora dined on Rosemary roasted chicken, while Bo had the herb roasted Rack of Lamb. They shared a dessert of crème brulee.

As the yacht makes its way back to the pier, Bo and Nora stand at the rail to watch the landmarks go by. Bo wraps his arms around Nora from behind and nuzzles her neck. Nora leans back into Bo and enjoys all of the attention. Bo looks at the captain and nods. Within minutes the sky over the Statue of Liberty is full of fireworks. Nora turns and looks at Bo’s beaming face.

NORA: Fireworks? For me?

BO: Only for you. You have lit up my life. The least I could do is light up your night. I love you with my whole heart and soul Red.

NORA (kissing him deeply): I love you too Bo. For the rest of my life.

BO: For the rest of our lives.

THE END!!!
