Her mind and face were blank. The car sped along, weaving in and out of her lane. The strong gusts of winds made it difficult to control her car, but that wasn't why she was weaving. She was driving with one hand. Her other hand gripped the handle of the object she grabbed on her way out. She pulled over and stopped out front. Slowly, her hand touched the metal door handle and pulled. The wind caught the door and threw it open as if it were cardboard. Like a zombie, she got out. The wind was blowing her hair all around her face. She went into the building. Her steps were slow and shuffled, but finally she stood in front of the door she was looking for. She tapped on it, knowing it would not be loud enough for anyone to hear. Looking down at the door knob, she slowly turned it and pushed. The door creaked open.

The moonlight lit up the garrett just enough that she could see him sleeping soundly on the couch, their couch. She made her way over to him, standing above, just watching his chest move up and down with each breath that he took. She wanted to reach out and touch that special part of his chest that she missed so much. Instead, her hand went up into the air, still holding the knife that she had brought from her home, and swiftly came down into that special spot in his chest. She heard the sickening thud and saw his eyes fly open wildly. And she still wore that blank stare.

*********

Nora lunged up from her pillow, still screaming! Her face, hair and neck were dripping in sweat. Her heart was thumping as if it would come out of her chest at any time. She was so scared. Her head was pounding. Turning towards the side of the bed, Nora threw her legs over the edge. She glanced at the clock flashing 12:15. She made her way to the bathroom. Grabbing the aspirin, she threw a few into her mouth and choked them down without a drink. She made her way back to her bed, knowing that she would not be dozing off to dreamland again this night. She lay back down, eyes wide open, replaying her nightmare over and over in her mind. Daylight would not come soon enough for Nora.

*********

Bo woke with a terrible pain in his chest. Making a fist, he beat on the spot that was burning. He knew that the fourth chili dog before bed was not a good idea, and he was paying for it now with a terrible case of indigestion. The clock next to the couch read 12:15. He went to the kitchen, plopping a couple of alka-seltzer into a glass of water. He drank the fizzing liquid. Within seconds he let out a loud burp. Smiling to himself, Bo thought "s'cuse you, Buchanan." He shuffled back to his couch, grabbing a bottle of antacids along the way. Chewing a few, he decided sleep would not be visiting him again tonight. His thoughts turned back to the days when Nora shared the chili dog binges with him. Bo heard himself say aloud "those were the good old days."

*********

Nora didn't wait for the alarm. She jumped out of bed. She had an agenda today. Her nightmare had left her with a feeling of urgency to check on Bo. They had barely spoken to each other lately. She felt the need to talk to him. Maybe her nightmare was an omen. Her head was still pounding from her vision during her sleep and also from the lack of it. She knew that Bo had kicked Gabby out of the garrett when he found out about her lies and schemes with Todd, and hoped he would be alone this morning. Grabbing her purse and keys, Nora was out the door at 7:00 a.m.

***********

Bo's thoughts had been of Nora for the rest of his sleepless night. Hank had kept him informed on what was happening in Nora's life since he and Nora seemed to not even be friends anymore. He pretended not to care, but that was a lie. Not only had he lost his wife when he let Nora go, he had lost his best friend. Hank had told him that Sam had finally moved on with his own life, a life without an obsession for Nora. Troy had gone back to Africa when Nora could not make any commitment with a man that was identical to his twin brother that had tortured her mentally and physically.

A banging on his door made him jump. 7:10. Who in the world was bugging him already this morning?

"I'm coming" Bo yelled still rubbing the spot on his chest that had given him the trouble the night before. When Bo saw who was on the other side of the door, a smile spread from ear to ear.

"Breakfast, Commish", Nora asked, holding out a cup of coffee and bag of donuts!

"Nora, you're the last person I expected to see. What can I do for you?"

"Well, let me in and you'll find out" Nora said laughing. It was that laugh that made Bo's heart fill alive, and he realized how much he'd missed hearing it.

Bo, still smiling, "Oh, sure, come on in. I haven't even had time to shower or shave. I didn't get my beauty rest last night. What are you doing up so early, Red?" He could see the concern in her tired eyes.

Just hearing him call her that made Nora's heart race. It had been a long time, and it made her feel warm inside. "Well, I've been up since very early thing morning. I couldn't sleep and was just thinking about old friends. And you, Commish, are one of my oldest and dearest friends and I realized I hadn't seen you for a while. So basically, I'm catching up with an old friend."

They sat on opposite ends of the couch. Nora went on to tell Bo of her disturbing dream. He could see how upset she was, and wanted to reach out and hold her, but held back the urge. She was just so beautiful. He loved watching her speak. He could see in her face and hear in her voice how horribly terrified she had been. He wished he had been there to comfort her. In the old days he would have wrapped his arms around her and she would have felt safe. When she had calmed down, his hands would have wandered all over her body, and she would reciprocate with touches of her own. Their love making always seemed to erase the demons of real life. If only it had been enough, Bo sadly thought to himself.

While Bo munched on his donuts and drank his coffee, Nora had the most unbearable urge to reach out and rub his stubbled face. She loved the rough feeling of his morning whiskers. She pretended to hated it, but it was such a turn on when he would rub his face against hers, scratching her face with his. He would start out just teasing her, and she would try to turn her face away. Grabbing her wrists in one hand and pinning them above her head, he would hold her jaw unharmingly with the other hand as he descended to her soft face. The rubbing of the morning stubble would eventually turn into hot kisses that would lead to places all over her body. She could still feel the sensation that would be left when Bo was done. She reached up and felt her cheek.

"Nora, have you heard any thing I've said?"

Nora snapped back to the present. A flush of red had taken over her face. "I'm sorry, Bo, what were you saying."

Nora watched Bo shove the last bite into his mouth, still not believing where her thoughts had just been and totally embarrassed that she had gone to that part of her past.

"I was just telling you that I can't believe that I'm eating donuts after the night I'd had."

Nora, rubbing her temples, "I'm sorry, Bo, I've had this headache all night and I guess I just wasn't paying attention."

"You want some aspirin or something."

"No, it'll go away. Maybe I'd better go. You probably have a lot to do. I've seen that my old friend is all right, and that's what I came by for. And it was just a stupid nightmare."

"Turn around, Red."

"What?"

"Turn around and scoot back towards me. I think I can help your headache."

Reluctantly, Nora did as instructed. She backed her body towards Bo, him straddling her with his legs. He began to tell Nora of his one too many chili dogs the night before, which made her laugh. His fingers gently pulled her hair back away from her temples, and he began to massage her skin. The pressure got a little greater with each circular motion and Bo began moving his hands across her scalp, down to her neck. He curbed his desire to put his lips on her neck. He could smell the sweetness of her skin.

"Helping?" Bo asked.

Nora let out a scratchy sound from her throat, "ummm, yes!" Nora leaned back into Bo, feeling that he was getting into this rub just as much as she was. She jumped forward, as if Bo's fingers and body had burned her. "Thanks, Bo, I'm much better and I really must be going."

Bo grabbed her hand and pulled her back down. "Let me finish. Just think of it as an old friend helping out another old friend."

She looked into his eyes. She couldn't break the hold those eyes had over her. He still had it. Nora saw it just then. It was that naughty twinkle. She reached out her hand and felt his chin, letting the sensation of the whiskers bring a smile to her face. Bo grabbed her wrist and leaned in to her face. As he kissed her, their eyes never left each other's. Bo let go of Nora's wrist and leaned her back onto the couch. Caressing his face in her hands, she encouraged him down on top of her. The touches and kisses exploded into burning, throbbing desire for Bo and Nora. Before either knew, that had satisfied parts of one another that hadn't been touched since the last time they had made love.

After, Bo and Nora held each other. Nora felt so content, she closed her eyes and let the much needed sleep take over her mind and body.
Nora opened her eyes to find Bo staring at her.

"What?"

"Nothing, Red. I'm looking at you like the first time I realized that I had fallen in love with you."

"Bo, I've never stopped loving you. When I had that nightmare of stabbing you in the heart, I knew what it meant. I had broken you heart. I have never been able to get over that. I never, ever wanted to hurt you."

"I know that now. Once I let the anger go, the love was still there. You still own my heart, Red."

"Bo, can we ever get over what happened in the past. We are both so different now. The only thing that hasn't changed is the love I feel for you."

"As I see it, the past is, well, passed. Now all we have is the present and the future." Giving her that naughty smile, "look at the clock. It's 12:15. I think I'm coming down with a bad case of heart burn, and I think you are the only one that can make it better!"

Climbing on top of Bo, Nora smiled. Running her hand across Bo's whiskers she leaned in and whispered in his ear, "I've know just what you need." Nora leaned down and kissed that place on Bo's chest that she loved so much.
