Hold Me Forever

Nora sat on the park bench, trying to catch her breath. She didn't think Troy would ever leave and after jumping in the shower to wash away the biggest mistake of her life, she was in desperate need of fresh air. She tore the sheets from the bed and dumped them in the laundry room floor as she rushed out of the house into the dark.

She was so thankful that Matthew was at a sleepover as she decided to leave her car in the garage and walk to the park. Walking wasn't helping, Troy's kisses and his hands on her body kept flooding her mind. She finally just took off running. She didn't know where she was going, she just had to get away.

Finally, with her side aching and struggling for breath, she slowed and found a secluded bench where she could rest. She sat there her hands clasped in front of her as she rocked back and forth, struggling to not break down. The tears flooded her eyes as she stared down at the pebbled pathway.

"What have you done, Nora??? What have you done???" she asked herself over and over.

Yet another mistake to add to the long list of mistakes she had made in her lifetime.

"What were you thinking??" she practically screamed at herself as she grabbed her temples and pressed. Trying to push out the memory of what just happened. The tears finally began to fall, her regrets overwhelming her.

"Oh God Bo, what have I done?" she dropped her head back, looking into the star filled sky.

"Red??" she heard his voice before she could make out his frame. He stepped around a section of brush, having heard her speak from his own park bench just on the other side.

Initially he was going to just leave her alone, let her work through her demons, but when he heard his name and the way her plea sounded so desperate, he had no choice but to help.

"Bo…" she said, surprised to see him standing there. She quickly brushed at her tears with her hands and threw on her best smile, "Bo!" she said having realized she sounded too chipper. "Um… What brings you out?" she asked, hoping to keep his attention away from her red-rimmed eyes.

"Um…" he said, stepping closer, his heart aching at seeing her upset. "I was just out getting some fresh air."

"Oh…" she nodded, turning away from him, pretending to watch the horse-drawn carriage passing by in the distance. "Me too…" she said quietly.

"Mind if I sit?" Bo asked, pointing to the space next to her.

Nora glanced at the empty spot and then began to make-up an excuse, "Um… Well, Bo… I really wanted…"

"Thanks!" he said with a big smile and took the seat she never offered.

"Sure, sure…" Nora quietly said, sitting forward, resting her arms on her knees and glancing down at her hands, absentmindedly picking at her nail polish.

"You don't want to talk, do you, Red?" Bo asked, watching the back of her head as she slowly shook it. "OK!" he said smiling, draping his arm on the back of the bench and crossing his leg on his knee, glancing around the dimly lit park. "Then how about we both just sit?" He watched Nora just nod her head as she continued to examine her fingers.

Several minutes passed, the city noises making their way into the serenity of the park. Bo watched Nora as she sat, the burden of the world weighing on her shoulders, as she occasionally wiped away a tear.
Finally she raised her hand and brought it to her forehead to try to ease the throbbing in her head.

"Nora?" he said, placing his strong hand on the back of her shoulder, he lightly squeezed and she turned back to look at him. "You can't go on like this," he said, his eyes boring into hers. "You need help." Her tears started to flow again. "I'm here if you need me?" he said, the sincerity showing on his face.

Her eyes burned, her brow furrowed, and she felt herself losing control as his hold on her shoulder tightened and he drew her back to him. His other arm encircled her as her head came to rest in the crook of his neck, her arms wrapping around him.

"Oh Bo…" she quietly cried, "You've got to help me…" her sobs continued, her hold on him feeling desperate.

Bo was overwhelmed and startled by her heartbreaking cries. "Nora??" he said, trying to glance down at her face, as her hold just tightened and she buried her face deeper into his neck. "Nora, Honey???" he frowned, placing his hand at the back of her head, gently smoothing her hair. "What is it???" His concern growing, "Nora… Please, Honey…" He reached up, taking her by the shoulders, and gently pushing her back. Her head dropped, unable to look him in the eyes. He placed his hand under her chin and forced her to look into his eyes as she wiped away her tears.

Bo could see something was seriously wrong. His concern grew into anger at the thought that someone had hurt her. "You tell me now Nora! What happened??? Is it Sam?" Bo asked, his anger growing as Nora just shook her head. "Is it Troy?" he asked and she tried to look away. "Is it Troy McIver?" Bo asked, his brow creasing deeper and deeper.

Nora swallowed hard and nodded. "I've made such a huge mistake Bo…" her voice breaking.

"What??" he asked and she looked away. "WHAT???" he practically yelled as he gently shook her to draw her attention back to him.
"I… I invited Troy to dinner…" she began slowly.

"Yes." Bo waited.

"We were having sushi and…"

"Sushi?" Bo interrupted, his eyebrows raised in a question.

"I'm trying new things, Bo…" she told him before continuing. "I knew Troy liked it, I was trying…" her voice beginning to break up again. "The evening started off so perfectly," she recalled. "It was romantic, low-keyed, just a chance for us to get to know each other better."

Bo sat and listened, with each detail his heart ached more and more.

"I feel at such a crossroads in my life, Bo…" She looked into his eyes. "I can't go back, I can't stay where I am, and I can't seem to move forward," the tears begin flowing again.

"So what has you so upset," he asked.

Nora nervously looked away, "Things didn't go as I had planned," she said quietly, unable to make eye contact.

"Did he hurt you?" Bo asked, his rage beginning to build inside. Why else would she be so distraught. She didn't answer and wouldn't look at him. "Did he hurt you?" he asked again, forcing her to turn toward him.

She slowly looked into his eyes, "It was my fault, Bo…" she began, saying the words but intellectually knowing it wasn't true. She just didn't want to see Bo's rage. Not right now, she needed him to be the calm one.

"What was your fault?" he asked, a sick feeling beginning to flood his soul.

"He just misread some signals…" she tried to convince herself. "He thought we were further along in our relationship…" she slowly shook her head, recalling their evening.

"What did he do Nora?" Bo asked, his fist tightening.

"He…" she began and looked away, "He tried to…" she couldn't finish.

Taking a deep breath she tried to continue. "We started talking after dinner…" looking up into his eyes trying to smile. "All I could think about was how nice a big juicy hamburger would taste right about now…"

Bo chuckled at her humor.

"We moved to the sofa to talk…" she started to recall. She didn't know if she could continue telling Bo this but she really didn't have anyone else.

"What happened, Nora?" Bo urged her to continue.

"We started kissing…" Bo's heart ached as Nora's fingers touched her lips. "He was getting too carried away, so I made a quick excuse that I need to run upstairs a moment to get something." Looking into Bo's eyes. "I told him I'd be right back down… I just needed a little time to compose myself."

Continuing to recount the evening, she spoke quietly, "I went upstairs to splash cold water on my face. I realized while we were kissing that all I could think about was Colin," Bo's anger grew at the mention of his name.

"I made up my mind that I needed to call it a night, try to explain to Troy what I was feeling…" glancing away from Bo. "When I stepped out of the bathroom he was standing in my bedroom, he had removed his shirt."

Nora's heart began to race as she recalled the look on his face. "I apologized for misleading him… He kept walking toward me… I told him we needed to slow down… He backed me up against the wall and started kissing me… He wouldn't listen…," the fear in Nora's voice growing. The vein in Bo's neck pulsed.

"He said it was what we both wanted…" Nora's hand went to her throat as the memory of his hot kisses came flooding back. "I told him to stop… It was too soon… He grabbed my arms," she rubbed her arms, remembering his hard hands holding her. "He pushed me to the bed…" Nora's head dropped to her hands.

"Did he rape you, Nora?" Bo was barely able to ask through his rage.

Nora seemed lost in the moment, reliving the evening in her mind.
"Oh God, Bo…" she said as she began to rock once more.

"Did HE…" Bo growled.

"No…" Nora cried, "No… He didn't… He tried. He kept telling me it's what I wanted, what I needed. I struggled, his hands were everywhere," her face was filled with pain and anger, she wiped at the tears, "I scratched him up pretty badly before he finally rolled off of me and left," Bo slowly released the breath he was holding and allowed a small sigh of relief to cross his lips. "My clothes were torn… I felt so filthy…"

"I'm glad you're OK, Red," Bo said, "I'll have the police pick him up." Nora just glanced away. "I would have killed him with my own two hands if he had…," he said through clinched teeth as he tightened his fists.

"I've finally made a total and complete mess of my life, Bo," she said as she stood to pace. Bo watched from the bench. "Why can't I get back on track?" she cried, looking pleadingly into Bo's eyes for an answer. "I just want my life back," she held her fist to her heart.

"Honey…" Bo said as he started to rise. Nora held up her hand to stop him.

"Please Bo… Don't feel sorry for me. I couldn't stand it if you felt pity for what I've done to my life."

"I don't feel pity," Bo said, standing and glaring at her. "What I feel in here," he said as he pointed to his own heart, "Isn't pity, Red. It's love." Nora looked at him as a tear fell. "It feels as if one of those horses over there has trampled on my heart. Day and night I feel this pain in my chest. The only time it feels halfway normal is when I'm with you," he said, stepping closer to her.

"Fate put us both in this park tonight, Red. I needed to get away from Gabrielle and her lies, and you needed to get away from past mistakes."
Nora reached up to caress his face, "I need you, Bo." She shook her head, fighting tears. "I do…" she emphasized. "I need your arms around me," she hugged herself, looking lovingly into his eyes, "I need your lips to be on mine," she slowly reached up and gently touched his lips, his breath warming her fingers. "I love you, Bo," she said quietly.

Her touch caused his pulse to quicken and when she said she still loved him his heart just about burst. "Maybe we can help each other get out lives back, huh?" he asked. She looked into his eyes feeling hopeful. "My arms ache to hold you, Red. My lips feel parched without your kiss…" he reached up to caress her face, gently pulling her closer.
Slowly, deliberately, he pulled her to him, his lips parting as his lips took control of hers. It was a moment they had both dreamed about but feared would never happen.

"I don't ever want to let you go," Bo sighed as his kisses traveled down her neck.

She reveled in the feelings Bo's touch awoke in her, sighing into his ear, "Hold me forever, Bo… Please… Just hold me forever…"

The End!!!!
