Private Eye part 3

Gloria had just blurted out she murdered a man.

Bo got up and went to close the door on the sunroom. He returned, Nora was sitting on the arm of the Davenport, with her arm comfortingly around Gloria’s shoulders.

Bo: Gloria, just what do you mean by you ”murdered a man”?

Gloria: (trying to calm herself, Nora hands her a tissue) I…I tried to reason with him…I tried to ask him why he had to hurt my boy…(near hysterics again)

Nora: Gloria, dear, we haven’t any idea what you are talking about…calm down and start at the beginning.

Bo: Let us help you…

Gloria: Oh…oh…ok…(calming her sobs) Ross was not my nephew…he was my son. I know this must not look very good, but, Cal is my stepbrother. He and his wife could not have children, she was infertile. They asked me if I would help. I said yes, and I donated my egg and my body to have a child for them. Ross was truly born of love. When Rita died, he was so young, we decided to keep it from him, but I moved in with him and Cal and we raised Ross together. I was always Auntie Glor. (she smiles behind her tears) Ross was a good boy. He studied hard and got himself high accolades from top schools. But he wanted to stay near home…

Bo and Nora look at each other, Bo shrugs his shoulders slightly.

Gloria: When he got into college and made the fraternity, Cal could not have been any more proud, he beamed (wipes her nose with the tissue) so did I! (laughs a little) but then Ross started to change…I accounted it the fact that he was on his own, and he would grow weary of the party life. Ross fell deeper and deeper into the wild nightlife. When his studies started to slip, Cal threatened to cut him off. Ross panicked. I tried numerous times to get him into a program, he actually went once, but he left after 10 days…he needed more money and more drugs, Cal cut him off and forbade me to give him a cent. He started to sell his things for money to buy drugs. When Mike couldn’t get them fast enough, Ross went to the main supplier, Professor Charles Donald.

Nora: A campus faculty member was selling drugs to the students? Oh Gloria…why didn’t you go to anyone?

Bo: How did you find out?

Gloria: Ross didn’t know I was coming to visit. I saw him leave the house and I followed him…to the campus cafeteria. He went to the kitchen, it was off hours, I watched through the swinging door window…he was talking, then Donald punched him. Ross bent over in pain, but when he stood up, I saw then exchange an envelopes and Ross left through the delivery door. A few minutes later, Donald left.

Nora: You should have gone to the campus security…right then and there.

Gloria: I couldn’t. I didn’t want Ross to end up in prison. (pausing) I guess prison would be better then were he is now…

Bo: So…how does this lead to you murdering a man?

Gloria: I went to Professor Donald three seperate times and asked him, begged him and finally threatened him to stop selling or giving Ross drugs. He laughed at me and said Ross was one of his best “working boys” on campus…

Nora: Working boys?

Bo: Drug runners…

Nora: Oh…

Gloria: (she starts to cry) Mike called…he said he didn’t know how it happened, he and Ross were supposed to deliver…and they were sick of giving Donald all the cash, the cut the drugs they were supposed to sell. Donald found out. When Ross went to give him the cash, he offered my boy more drugs, new drugs…As soon as Ross started to walk home, the drugs…(sobbing) the drugs moved quickly…(sobbing) he died before he got to the path…

Nora: I am so sorry Gloria…

Gloria: After the service…I went to confront Donald…he said Ross was a loser…and he was better off dead…he said he could help me feel better…when he turned to go into his office, I took my gun from my purse and fired…two shots…

Bo: You had said someone knew what you did…

Gloria: Mike…after I fired the gun, I left the office. I went home and had a drink, Mike called. He said he saw me leave the professors office. He said he found the professor dead. He said if I gave him money he would keep quiet about what I did and about Ross and the drugs. He said he made it look like it was one of Donald’s working boys that did him in…but if I refused to give him what he wanted, he would sing…

Nora: Gloria…I just…

Gloria: I know. I am so embarrassed. I decided that I had enough…that I wasn’t going to pay him anymore. I stopped answering his phone calls. Then he started coming to the house. I would sit perfectly still until he would walk from the steps…

Bo: Was Professor Donald dead when you left him?

Gloria: I would hope so…

Bo: Gloria, how many shots did you fire?

Gloria: Two.

Bo: You’re sure. I mean absolutely sure….

Gloria: Yes.

Bo: What kind of gun was it and where is it now?

Gloria: It’s in Cals’ safe and it was Cals' Colt .45 show piece.

Bo: Cal knows of what happened?

Gloria: Oh no! He doesn’t know the gun is there. It’s in my jewel case.

Bo: Gloria, I do not want you to tell another person this, yet. Let me do some checking around and I will get back to you…and do not get rid of that gun. Actually, I would like you to get it to me.

Gloria: I’ll have Cal bring me my jewel case in the morning.

Bo: Fine. We’ll see you tomorrow. (standing and putting his hand out to Nora) Sweetheart, you ready?

Nora: Yes.(she stands and gives Gloria a reassuring hug. Whispering in her ear) I know that look. He’s got something cooking. Trust him.

Gloria: I will. Goodnight and thank you.

Bo: Just sit tight. It will be alright. Goodnight.

After they say goodnight to Clint and Vicki Bo and Nora head out to their car.

Nora: Ok Buchanan, what gives?

Bo: (sighing with a perplexed look on his face) Something isn’t sitting right…When we first met Gloria, I shook her hand…

Nora: I did too…and

Bo: She’s not exactly a pillar of strength…I can’t imagine her shooting a gun, only twice and accurately hit a man to kill him. I mean, that gun she used, it's a pretty heavy piece for a small woman to handle. I want to tap the morgue files and find out some details on this Professor Donald’s death…it just doesn’t add up…

They stop at a red light.

Nora: You know, I find you sleuthing extremely sexy…now if you only had a British accent…

Bo: (in a British-like accent) Aye, mum, you underestimate me …

Nora: Ooo…You do know how to get to me Mr. Bond.

Bo: Bond…James Bond

They lean in toward each other and start to kiss. The light turns green as they continue their clinch, much to the annoyance of the cars behind them.

Bo: A-hem…hold that thought til we get home…

Nora: With pleasure…

A few minutes later they pull up outside their home. Nora get out and starts to walk toward the front door, As she passes the walk way a huge chunk of cinder block flies out of the bushes and through the bay window, shattering it and scaring her half to death. A person takes off running through the neighbors’ yards. Bo runs to Nora’s side…

Bo: Red! Are you ok?

Nora: What the hell was that?

Bo: I don’t know…(he takes off after the person, but by the time he gets to the edge of his own yard, the person is long gone, he returns. Nora is inside the house, Bo goes in) Did anything inside get broken?

Nora: Just this ugly sculpture thing from Lindsey. I thought if I hid it in this cabinet…

Bo: Oh, well.

Nora starts to clean up the glass as Bo calls for a board up service. As he hangs up Nora call him over.

Nora: Honey, come look at this…

Bo: (pulling a piece of paper out of the cinder block hole) “ Kev’s Mom is quite a hottie, stay away from Gloria, it ain’t worth your life”

Nora: Mike.

Bo: I’m gonna call Kevin.

Nora: I’ll finish this..

Bo: (walking towards the living room) And you are not going to that campus alone anymore…

Nora: Sure.(rolling her eyes)

Bo: I mean it! (picking up the phone and dialing) Kevin…it’s Bo…when you get in give me a ring…its important…(returns to help Nora) he wasn’t in…

Nora: My son the scholar…probably studying!

Bo: (smirks) yeah right…studying the student bodies…(doorbell rings Bo goes to get it, it's the board up crew) Yeah…its pretty obvious…I’m having the glass company over in the morning…thank you.(returns to Nora)

Nora: (walking away from the glass mess) I’ll just let them do their job…

Bo: Want something to eat?

Nora: Yeah…lets see what we have…(they head into the kitchen)

Bo opens the fridge and leans in…

Bo: Hmmm…hmmm…hmmm

Nora: (sitting at the table) Bo…it’s a refrigerator, not an order window…

Bo: I know that smarty…I’m just makin my selection…

Nora: there’s not that much in there!

Bo: There’s plenty! Look…leftover pizza…left over Chinese…left over…what was this?
Left over pie…left over…oh wait…pie!

Nora: Share with me?

Bo: Get your own pie…this is mine…(he sits down with half a banana crème pie) and I am finishing it all…

Nora: Can’t I have a bite? (she puts her index finger in the pie and holds up the dollop of whipped creme) even one small…(putting her finger slowly in her mouth) taste….

Bo: Um…only…(licking his top lip with the tip of his tongue) if…you…show me that again…

Nora: What? (she again puts her finger in the pie) you mean this (repeating the gesture, only this time going painfully slow)

Bo could feel himself getting turned on.

Bo: You…ah…you like banana crème pie?

Nora: (slowly mouthing the word)Love…it (and again puts her finger in the pie, but this time instead of putting her finger in her mouth, she leans across the table and puts her finger in Bo’s mouth and slowly pulls it out. She asks quietly and very breathy) How bout you?

He slightly stands up to meet her lean and puts his hand behind her neck, pulling her into a steamy kiss. He parts her lips with his tongue and explores her mouth. The taste of banana is almost erotic as they stay in the position for a while, before Nora pulls back, stands up completely, turns and begins to walk out of the kitchen. Bo takes a moment to catch his breath, and finally realizes she has walked out of the kitchen. He grabs the pie and a spoon and goes into the living room where Nora is sitting in the couch with one leg pulled up toward her chest, the other dangling off the couch. He notices the bay window is boarded and the crew is gone.

Bo: Whyja leave?

Nora: You don’t want to share your pie…I’m not gonna share…

Bo: Oh! I get it! You wanna play hard to get!

Nora: Baby…(pausing) there ain’t nothing hard to get about me where you’re concerned!

He sits down across from her on the couch, balancing the pie on one hand. He sticks the spoon into it.

Nora: You gonna eat that all by yourself (she bites the tip of her finger)

Bo: Wasn’t gonna eat it…exactly…

He puts a bit of whipped crème on the end of his nose and winks. Nora leans forward and slowly crawls across the couch til she is inches from Bo’s nose then takes her finger and swipes the crème off and puts her finger in her mouth. He can not take it anymore, he literally tosses the remainder of the pie on the end table behind him, pulls her finger out of her mouth, places his hands on either side of her face and move closer to kiss her, he hesitates a moment the draws her into a hot and heavy make out session. He moves his hands down her shoulders to her hips and repositions himself so she is lying down. He maneuvers to unbutton and unzip her jeans and together they both kick those to the floor. His jeans quickly follow, along with his shirt. After that, the pie was the furthest thing from their minds! They spent their evening together, the way they always did, making love on the couch.

A couple hours later, they are still naked on the couch, recouping from a pretty hot and intense time. Bo switches on the TV and they lie together watching for a while.

Bo: Guess it’s a good thing I didn’t pick that left over Chinese…

Nora: You’d be surprised what I can do with Kung Pow Chicken…

Bo: I’ll bet…(he kisses her again)

The phone rings. It’s Kevin.

Kevin: Bo…what’s up?

Bo: Kev…here’s the deal; Mike has been blackmailing Gloria for a murder that I think she didn’t commit.

Kevin: Professor Donald

Bo: Yes. We went over to your folks tonight to speak with her and she told us about the whole incident…I smell something wrong with her whole account of that evening.

Kevin: What do you want me to do?

Bo: Keep with Mike, tail him and make sure you know where he is at all times. When we got home, someone threw a cinder block through our window, barely missing Nora, but showering her with glass. There was a note inside the block, it said “Kev’s Mom is quite a hottie, stay away from Gloria, it ain’t worth your life” I think we have a nut case on the loose.

Kevin: And someone who’s following Nora, she’s alright though, right?…

Bo: She’s fine.

Kevin: You don’t think my cover is blown, do you?

Bo: I think you’re still ok. I’ll be out there in the morning; I want to look over Donald’s old office…

Kevin: Alright, I’ll see you then. Have a good night.

Bo: Oh, I intend too (smiles as he looks at Nora)

Kevin: Again? (serious tone) my goodness man, do you ever tire? (he breaks out into a huge laugh)

Bo: What can I say? (pause) Goodnight! And be careful!

Kevin: Will do…night.

They hang up.

Bo: I really want to wrap this case in the next few days, the longer I leave him out there the more chance of him getting hurt.

Nora: I know, I feel the same way.

Bo: Let’s go to bed, I want to be out at the campus first thing in the morning. I want to look at Donald’s office.

Nora: Why is that?

Bo: Something is just not setting right with me about Gloria shooting him; I just don’t see it in her.

They head up to bed.
