A Day on Llantano Mountain
Two motorcycles pull up to a remote, breathtaking lookout, high up Llantano Mountain at the same time. The cyclists get off their bikes, pull off their helmets and stare at each other.
Bo: What the heck? Are you following
me?
Nora: No I'm not following you...are you following me?
Bo: No, I am not. What are you doing riding a motorcycle? You
hate motorcycles.
Nora: I borrowed Hank's... I'm sure he won't mind. He wasn't around
for me to ask for it but I kinda found the key in his office desk.
I needed to get away, so that's what I'm doing. What are you doing
here?
Bo: I needed to get away too. I really want to be alone Nora.
Nora: Well, so do I. And I got here first... so leave.
Bo: You leave. This is my special place. I found it years ago.
So you leave.
Nora: I'm staying. This lookout is beautiful and I'm going to
sit here and take in the view and think. You are spoiling my plans.
Bo: Well, excuse me counsellor, but you are spoiling my plans
too.
Nora: I'll flip ya for it. Heads - I stay.
Bo: Right, with your 2 headed coin that I gave you. I have a better
idea - you just leave and I'll just stay!
Nora: No can do...it took me all morning to get up here and I'm
not turning around now.
Bo: All morning - it's a one hour drive - what did you do, 30
miles per hour all the way?
Nora: So what's so wrong with that?
Bo: Ha! Bike a little too much to handle?
Nora looking at the ground: Of course it isn't...I just wanted
to be safe.
Bo: I bet the drivers behind you just loved driving up at a snail's
pace too!
Nora: There was a little bit of honking from them...they were
just saying hello!
Bo: Along with a couple of 4 letter words, I'm sure.
Nora: Well, I'm here and I'm not leaving. I guess there's room
enough for both of us. I'll go over there to the big rock and
you can go where ever you want. I won't bother you at all.
Nora grabs the water bottle from her bike and takes off her jacket. Meanwhile Bo is unpacking his bike - a huge picnic basket a blanket and a sports bag. He takes them all over to a cleared area near the edge of the mountain. He lays out the blanket carefully, opens up his basket and pulls out package after package of food and drink and then reaches in his bag and pulls out his discman and a variety of CDS. He gets himself all comfy and starts digging into his lunch. Nora walks over to her rock - puts her jacket down to sit on and looks at her water bottle. She can smell Bo's lunch and is starving. Bo looks over to her and grins.
Bo: Beautiful day for a picnic!
Nora: Beautiful.
Bo: Didn't bring anything, huh?
Nora shakes her head.
Bo: I always come prepared when I come up here to my spot.
Nora shakes her head again.
Bo: I always think better on a full stomach.
Nora glares at him. "Pig" she mumbles under her breath.
Nora decides to ignore him and her rumbling stomach. She looks
out at the vista ahead of her. She starts thinking about the ride
up - it was the worst experience of her life. She had so much
trouble steadying that horrible machine and thinking about going
down the mountain scares the hell out of her. She looks over at
Bo. He was now stretched out on his blanket, jacket under his
head staring up at the sky. Well this sure wasn't clearing her
head. She lay back on the lumpy rock and within minutes fell asleep.
After quite some time she woke up. It was almost dark. She looked
over and Bo was nowhere to be found. She jumped up, terrified,
and started pacing around the lookout. Bo's bike was there.
Nora: Where were you? I thought something
happened to you.
Bo: I took a little hike - what's the problem? Didn't you want
to be alone? I thought that's why you came here.
Nora: Yes...right. I guess I'll head back now.
Bo: I have some leftovers. Want some?
Nora: I'm fine. I need to get back.
Bo: You haven't eaten all day. Just sit and eat something.
Nora: I wouldn't want to invade your space.
Bo: It's a little late to think about that, isn't it?
Nora: Well, I'll just have a little bite and then be on my way.
They sat together on the blanket and started digging in. Nora was starving and couldn't stop eating. Before they knew it everything in the basket was gone.
Bo: Look at those stars. Aren't they
amazing?
Nora: Like big fat diamonds sparkling in the sky. This spot is
perfect.
Bo: And romantic.
Nora: Ummm
Bo: Remember all the picnics we used to have? Remember our first
date when we lay together at Serenity Springs staring at the stars.
They are some of my best memories.
Nora: Bo...
Bo: Do you think that maybe one day...
Nora: Bo, please don't.
Bo: You really don't think it could ever happen again?
Nora: Think? - I don't know. Hope?- yes.
Bo: Well I hope so too. The good times that we had shine through
the pain.
Nora: We really had something special. I really blew it, didn't
I?
Bo: We blew it. We both made some very stupid mistakes that we
can't take back.
Nora: All I can think about is how much you lost... Drew, then
our marriage, Matthew and now Lindsay's and your unborn child...
three children, Bo. I would give anything to make all that hurt
go away for you. I can't imagine how you must feel.
Bo: Gee, you really know how to make a guy feel better!!! Some
of these losses can never be regained, but maybe some of them
can. From the day we met, you were always there for me. And I
feel your strength here with me now.
Nora: I'm glad, Bo. We do make much better friends than enemies.
Bo: Yeah, you can be really mean...what is with calling me a stupid
egotistical jerk...really!
Nora: If the shoe fits... I better get back, it's getting late
and I really want to tuck Matthew in tonight.
Bo: Can I come?
Nora: That would be nice.
They head over to their motorcycles. Nora grunts as she flings her leg over the monster. She puts the key in and tries to start the dang thing. Nothing.
Bo: How much gas did you put in?
Nora: Gas?
Bo: Red, you didn't fill up did you?
Nora: Nope.
Bo: Figures. Hop on behind me and hold on tight. Hank and I will
come up tomorrow and rescue his bike.
Nora: My hero.
To be continued....
