All You Need is Love..........part 7
In this chapter I intended to write a dialogue between David and Nora discussing his imprisonment and the hardships he endured. I don't think we need to read this....or should I say, I really don't want to write this now. So let's just say the discussion took place. The parallel between their time in captivity and the feelings of anger, fear, and loneliness is similar but both come out of their situations stronger as they realize what their priorities are and that they can either turn off the world and hide or strike back by living their lives to the fullest.
Nora is sitting beside David's hospital bed. They have been
talking for almost 3 hours.
"So David, where do you go from here?"
"I get my life back"
"Oh I know that feeling well enough. You put on a brave face
and carry on, no one knowing the pain and anger you hide. But
you know, it works. Day by day the pain lessens to some degree
and you let go of some of the anger. You have good days, and not
so good ones, but the good days start increasing and the bad ones
aren't as frequent until one day you think hey, I haven't
thought about such and such for a while now...I'm going to make
it"
"You're lucky you have such wonderful friends and your children
to help. And Bo of course!"
"I'm very lucky, although it took me awhile to figure that
out. You know you have all those people around you too for support.
Decide what you want and don't let what happened to you stop you
from getting there. We'll help in any way we can, I promise"
"Will you call momma and daddy Nora? I think I'm ready for
them now. Thank you. You have no idea how much talking to you
has helped"
"I think I do...."
Nora knocks on Bo's office door and pokes her head inside
"Busy?" Bo looks up at Nora and grins
"For you? Never. What brings you down here? I thought you
were taking the morning off to be with David"
"I need a big, tight as you can make it, hug. Know where
I can find one?"
"As a matter of fact I do. Come here"
Nora slowly entered the office and drew closer to Bo. As he put
his arms out to her she lunged for him and fell against his body.
After a minute or so Bo pulled back and saw the tears streaming
down Nora's face
"Red? Hey, what's going on?"
"I'm sorry. I just couldn't hang on any longer. I held it
together for him Bo but my God, what he's been through. The indignity,
the pain - how he survived, I don't know"
"But he did Red. And each day will be better than the last
one, especially with you and the rest of us here to help"
Nora wiped away her tears and looked into Bo's eyes and smiled
" Were you eavesdropping commish?"
Bo laughed "No, but I know the drill. I'm a Vietnam vet remember.
It took me some time to reacclimatize myself when I got back too"
"Ok, what was her name?"
"Huh?"
"The girl that helped you get yourself back together?"
"Why Nora Buchanan, I have no idea what you are talking about"
"Don't tell me she was a blonde. Is that where your interest
in them comes from?" (Sorry any blondes out there lol)
"Umm I don't remember! But I'll tell you something, once
you've known a redhead there's no going back"
"Nice save commish"
Nora held Bo's face in her hands and they looked deeply into each
other's eyes. Bo lowered his lips to hers and their intense kiss
grew to such passion that neither one heard the door open.
"Oh geez" Hank muttered as he turned to go back out
again. Bo and Nora broke their kiss but not their embrace
"Nice timing buddy. This better be important"
"I'm so sorry"
"Sure you are Hank."
There's a going away party going on for John. A speech from you
would be nice Mr Commissioner"
"I'll be right there Hank, thanks. Ummm I'll be right there"
Hank got the message and left the two alone
"Can we continue this later at your place?"
"Continue? Continue what?" Bo planted another big kiss
on Nora that left her breathless
"Oh...that...my....yes, later"
It was about 9 pm when Bo looked through the window of the
door to Nora's house. He saw that she was on the phone and felt
badly about interrupting.
"Yes, honestly, he's going to be just fine... I think he'll
be discharged from the hospital in a day or two..... yes momma,
Saturday will be just fine (Nora looks up and sees Bo at the door
and waves for him to come in)..... I know it's hard to believe
daddy, he's anxious to see you too.... It's only 2 more days momma,
I know it will be hard to wait but please give him that time....
yes I'll tell him that you love him.... I'll call you tomorrow
ok, good night"
Bo threw his coat on the hall bench and walked into the living
room. He sat down beside Nora on the couch and kissed her "bet
that was hard huh"
"It took me all this time since I left you to get up the
courage to call. They are beside themselves. They'll be here on
Saturday"
"Better count on them being here tomorrow, you know what
they're like"
"Can't really blame them. I'll call Renee for a room at the
Palace just in case"
"That can wait till tomorrow, but this really can't"
Bo took Nora in his arms and just as he was about to lean her
down against the pillows he caught a glimpse of a shadow near
the stairs
"Can I please have a glass of water mommy?" Matthew
was rubbing his eyes with one hand, holding his blanky with the
other
Nora bolted up and straightened out her clothes "Sure honey.
You go back up and I'll bring it to you"
Nora returned about 5 minutes later and settled back into Bo's
arms "Matthew wanted to know if Uncle Bo had come here for
a sleep over"
"I knew I liked that child. So what did his mommy say to
that?"
"I told him that if Uncle Bo was good, he could stay!"
"But what if Uncle Bo was going to be bad?"
"Well then, Uncle Bo can definitely stay!"
