OLTL's Nora Is Alive

Soap Opera Weekly
May 16, 2000

All hope is not lost this week on One Life To Live; Nora is alive. Unfortunately, no one in Llanview knows it.

The first time viewers see Nora ''she is in the white light with Will,'' Hilary B. Smith (Nora) explains. ''Nora is telling Will--who is also hovering near death due to injuries sustained in the train crash-- to go back. The scene is intercut with Sam, Rachel and Matthew stuff; Nora really senses Matthew and Rachel within the white light. Then Nora turns and starts walking toward the light. It is very beautiful.''
Nora is pulled from the brink of death by Colin, a Cherryvale doctor who was at the site when the train exploded. According to Smith, ''When Bo leaves Nora on the train to get the jaws of life to get her out, the cars shift ever so slightly, and Colin finds Nora and gets her out. The explosion blows them into the woods and they are knocked unconscious.'' None of this is shown on air, but rather explained later in conversation.

Because they've been lying in the woods unconscious for a while, almost everyone except for some fire crew is gone, including Bo and Sam. That means it is up to Colin to help Nora. ''He does CPR on her, puts a shot of epinephrine in her heart, finds a board, ties her to the board and drags her to the hospital,'' Smith says.

At Cherryvale Colin tends to her wounds--which include, among others, severe burns, a crushed pelvis, a broken arm and fingers, and throat damage--and stabilizes her condition. ''Even though he is injured, Colin doesn't leave Nora's side,'' Smith notes. ''He is pretty determined to help her get well and to reunite her with her loved ones.''

That may be easier said than done, since Colin doesn't know who she is and a highly medicated Nora is unable to tell him. Hoping to catch a break, Colin faxes Nora's picture to the police. Good fortune, though, is not on their side this time.
