A Realization in the Park

Nora decided a walk in the park, alone, would do her some good. She needed to contemplate everything Rae had said. She was trying to make sense of her life, which at this point really seemed out of control. She had been with Bo for years, and would probably still be with him if it weren’t for Lindsey messing with his sperm tests results. She also knew that she truly loved Sam as a friend, but had never been in love with him. He was just there when she was at the lowest point in her life and alone. And now Troy.

She wanted to see him for what was inside, but could she ever get past the physical likeness between Troy and Colin. Could Rae be right?

As she came out from under the bridge, she heard his laughter before she saw him. It sent a chill down her spine. He was sitting on a park bench laughing and playing with Starr, but Troy’s laughter sounded like Colin. Nora jumped back under the bridge. She just wasn’t ready for this with Troy. It was all just too creepy. Nora headed back in the direction she came from, and sat at the first bench she found. Her thoughts were of Troy giving her an ultimatum, sleep with him or he was leaving. He didn’t like small talk. It couldn’t be all or nothing with her. She needed more than sex. She needed mental intimacy as well as physical intimacy. Nora needed a friend, someone that would listen and be interested in her day, and pretend to be interested even if he wasn’t. She needed someone to love her the way Bo loved her.

The sadness swept over Nora, realizing what was missing in her life. Someday, she would find someone to fill her up the way Bo did, but for now, she knew it wasn’t Troy. She smiled at the couple that roller bladed past her. They were laughing. She missed the laughter in her life.

Nora pulled out her cell phone. “I need your help, Hank!”
***********
Hank and Bo walked towards the fountain in the park. “Thanks for getting out of that office and grabbing lunch with me. I needed some fresh air.”

“No problem, Hank. It’s good to be with someone that is actually honost with me. I’m just so sick of being around people that think lies are good for a relationship. What is it with me and women? First Nora and her lies, then Lindsey, Melanie, and now Gabrielle.”

“I don’t know buddy. What I do know is that you deserve some happiness in your life, and right now, that’s going to be with a greasy burger,” Hank said laughing. “Sit here, and I’ll go get our lunch.”

Bo, sitting at the bench by the fountain, “okay, but make mine with chili. Oh, what the heck, make it with the works.”

As Hank made his way to the burger vendor, Bo watched the horse-drawn carriage coming his way with a newly married couple. They were laughing and kissing. At that instant he was jealous. They had what he once did, but it was all gone now. His heart ached thinking back of his days of utter happiness with Nora. But, those days were in the past, and they both had moved one.

He watched the carriage turn the corner. And that is when he saw her. She was coming towards him, and it took all he could to hold in the laughter. It was Nora. She was wearing a bright pink top and shorts, and was roller blading in his direction. And she had on this outrageous star shaped pink sunglasses.

Bo stood, anticipating her arrival. Her arms were revolving like a windmill, and he could tell she was out of control. As Nora came flying to Bo, he caught her in his arms. “Nora, you are going to kill yourself!”

Out of breath, Nora made her way to the bench while holding on to Bo’s arm. “Thanks for stopping me. I still haven’t figured out how to use the brakes on these things.”

Bo sat down by her. God, she looked beautiful even in her goofy get-up. “Are you meeting someone?”

“Well, sort of. I’m meeting you, Bo. Hank brought you here for me.”
Bo looked confused. “Me?? Why??”

Nora took off the glasses. He needed to see her eyes. “Bo, I want to talk.”

“Well, start talking, Red.”

“No, Bo, I mean, we need to talk.”

Bo looked deep into her eyes. He knew what she meant. Bo gave her that Bo smile, stood, and held out his hand. Nora accepted it, and slowly and very unsteadily stood.

“Red?”

“Yes, Bo”

“What’s with the outfit?”

Disappointed, Nora said “you don’t remember, Bo?’

“Yes, Red, I do remember!”

She smiled back as Bo put his arm around her waist. Nora put her sunglasses back on and they carefully began their way out of the park, and on their journey back to each other.
