A CHANGE IN SEASONS (part 1))
Bo and Nora are back together and living in their house.
They are regularly attending marriage counseling.
Matthew is 9 months old.
Setting:
2:30 am, November morning, Bo and Nora's bedroom.
Bo and Nora are asleep, the windows are slightly cracked and a chilly breeze is blowing in.
Bo awakens from the chill and gets up to close the window.
B: Ow! Oh man!
Nora jumps up.
N: Bo! Are you alright? What happened?
B: I stubbed my toe on the bed, damn it.
N: What are you doing up?
B: I'm freezing honey. I got up to close the windows.
N: Well come back to bed. I'll keep you warm. (She says slyly)
B: But what about my toe?
N: Oh, do you want me to rub it and kiss it and make it all better?
B: Kiss my toes? Hmmm.....
N: Get back in bed you baby.
Bo jumps in bed and Nora snuggles up to him lying her head on his chest.
B: Maybe I should check on Matthew. I might have woke him up.
He starts to get up.
N: I'm sure he's fine. We would have heard him.
Bo settles back down in bed.
B: But maybe we left the windows open
in his room too.
N: (laughing) No, I distinctly remember closing them. Now go back
to sleep, it's almost 3:00.
B: Well I'm still new to all this baby stuff Nora.
N: You're doing just fine daddy, now goodnight.
B: Alright, goodnight.
10 minutes later.
B: Red? Are you awake?
Nora is still laying on his chest, but she is not asleep.
N: Yes (but she says it kind of groggy).
B: I can't fall back to sleep.
N: Aw, does your toe still hurt?
B: No, and you never kissed it either and I'm still cold. Maybe
I'll make a fire.
Nora reaches up to kiss him and she pulls the fluffy comforter over them.
N: Are you getting warmer?
B: A little, but parts of me are still cold.
With that, Nora rolls on top of him laughing and they make love into the early morning hours.
Bo gets up before Nora and goes to check on Matthew.
Matthew is still asleep, so he heads down to the kitchen to start the coffee.
Bo brings up a tray with coffee, toast, donuts, and bacon.
He then starts a fire and wakes up Nora by gently kissing her face.
B: Hey sleepy head, feel like some
breakfast made by yours truly?
N: No, I want to go back to sleep. I'm tired. Come back to bed
with me. (she says reaching out to him)
B: But honey, everything will get cold and look I've made a fire.
N: Well I think we made a pretty good fire of our own last night,
don't you?
B: Yeah, it was pretty wonderful.
Nora finally gets up, puts on her robe and sits next to Bo by the fire.
N: Did you check on Mattie? What?
(Nora says sheepishly - tousling her hair)
B: You just look so beautiful Nora. I've missed you beyond what
words could say.
She reaches up to touch his face.
N: You're not so bad yourself mister.
B: I'm serious. I have a year's worth of life to make up to you.
N: Oh Bo, we have to take it day by day or thoughts of the past
will drive us crazy.
They sit silently for awhile eating breakfast and staring into the warm glow of the fire.
Matthew's cries break the tranquility of their morning and they both rise to go to his room.
N: Good morning sweetheart! How's mommy's little angel?
Matthew just laughs and oohs and ahhs as they carry him downstairs to feed him.
B: Honey you sit. I'll get his bottle ready.
N: Thank you. Matthew, do you see what a wonderful daddy you have? He's a fine example of a man and I'm going to raise you to be just like him.
Just then the doorbell rings. Nora gets up to get it. Asa is at the door.
N: Hello Asa. What brings you by this
morning? It's kind of early doncha' think?
A: Hello Nora. I came to see my grandson. Hey Matthew, how's my
newest Buchanan doing? Asa takes him from Nora's arms and heads
to the couch.
B: Nora, I thought I heard voices. Who are you talking to? (He
says as he exits the kitchen)
B: Oh hi Pa.
A: Is that the best you can do for your old Pa?
B: Well it's early and I had a rough night (winks at Nora) - What's
up?
A: I want to see my grandson and I need some info from you. I'm
starting a trust fund for him and the other kids you will have.
N: Well that's very nice of you Asa, but I think Matthew will
be the only one. I'm not exactly 25 you know.
A: Why? He needs siblings. You've got to the keep the family growing.
You can have at least one more Nora. I know you could do it.
B: Hold it Pa! This is what started the whole mess of ours over
the last year. You're lucky to even have a new grandson. Besides
Nora had a pretty rough time and I will not risk her life again.
What Nora, Matthew, and I plan to do with our lives is up to us
- so end of discussion.
A: I didn't cause that. Those slime ball RappaDavidsons did. And
I was right all along. You never listen to me son.
N: OK, that's enough. We've been through this all before. Bo and
I are concentrating on our future together, not the past.
A: Speaking of the future. When's the wedding?
B: Excuse me?
A: Wedding - you know, husband & wife, rings, cake. You can
have it at the mansion. We'll throw a good old fashioned shin-dig.
N: I don't know Asa. Bo & I haven't even discussed this.
A: Well you think about it. Let me know the date and Renee and
I will take care of everything. I have to go now. Bring Matthew
around more. I want to see him grow up. Goodbye cowboy. I've got
your horse waiting for you when you are ready!
N: What?!? Oh boy. Goodbye Asa (waving Matthew's arm to Asa)
B: Well the horse is first, the car will be next.
N: So what do you think Bo? Should we remarry?
B: Definitely, but I'd rather it was private. You know - you and
me and Matthew.
N: No! I want all the world to know we are together again! I want
it in all the papers, shouted from the rooftops, written in the
sky, and on the jumbo-tron in Times Square!
Bo grabs Nora in his arms and kisses her.
B: Well, I'm sure Asa could arrange all those things.
