Altered States: The Finale
Bo holds Nora’s hands and looks her in the eyes. She looks
hurt and confused.
Bo: Seriously…this has been long, long over due. So please,
just hear me out.
Nora: (under her breath) Bo…what are you doing?
Bo: First of all, in front of all these people, who love you and
care about you,
all these fine folks who were there for you when I was not. (he
gets down on his knee)
Nora, I beg your forgiveness. I was a fool. I hurt you the way
no person should be hurt. I will live every day to its fullest,
with my one and only goal being to make you completely and utterly
happy. I ask this of you…(he stands up and faces the group)
Next (he walks over to Len) I ask you Len, (he looks at Selma
and takes her hand) and you Sel, for your forgiveness, you acceptance
and your blessing as I again and for the final time take your
daughter for my wife.
Bo extends his hand to Len. At first Len hesitates, then a big
smile creeps across his face as he shakes Bo’s hand and Selma
gives Bo a hug
Len: You better stay true to your word, consider yourself warned
Bo!
Asa: He will, He will!
Everyone laughs
Bo: I will, I swear it.
Bo: Rachel (he walks over to her and takes both her hands) I watched
you grow from a confused teenager to a beautiful young woman,
as radiant as your Mother and as sly as your old man…
Hank: Hey! Watch buddy!
Everyone laughs
Bo: You watched me turn your mom’s world upside down. I swear
to you, as we stand here today, I will make your mom happier than
she’s ever been. She’ll want for nothing and I will
love her all the days of my life. Rachel, I am sorry, for any
pain you may have suffered as a result of what I did to her. May
I have your blessing?
Rachel: Yes Bo, my blessing and all my love and best wishes.
She gives Bo a big hug and a kiss on the cheek.
Bo: To everyone here, thank you for your support, your understanding
and most of all your love.
Every one claps for him. He hugs Asa and Clint and returns to
stand with Nora in front of Andrew.
Andrew: Well (looking surprised) shall we continue? As I was saying,
we are not sharing this evening with your typical couple here,
is any more proof necessary?
Everyone laughs.
Andrew: Family and friends, you’ve been asked to share this
evening with a truly remarkable couple, Bo and Nora. Friends,
each of us is born into this world with a predetermined plan.
This plan, this destiny is our own personal path to follow, we
do not know who we will meet, when or where, or if those chance
meetings will last a life time or a brief moment. Bo, Nora, it
is obvious to all of us here, you both have but one path to follow,
and that is together. You truly are each other’s destiny.
You’ve been through a lot together and a lot apart, and fate
has brought you back to each other. In as much as Bo and Nora
have brought their intentions before all of you here,
a higher power, and myself, I would now ask that they commit themselves
to each other with a declaration of their love.
Nora: Bo, what happened in the past is behind us and ancient history.
We are together now, and that is all that matters, we are together,
the way it should be. I never stopped loving you. Once you captured
my heart, you kept it. I only hope you kept it safe. I stand here
now, before friends and family and I promise you that I will love
you, cherish you and care for you. I will be your partner, your
lover but above all else, I will be your friend. I will be there
for you, in the good times, that seem so easy and carefree, and
in the bad times which at times may seem to rip us to the core.
When times are difficult, when the world is against you, know
that I will be there, to give you a reassuring hug, a kind, encouraging
word and all the love one heart is capable of. Know that I love
and that this is what my love for you is about.
Bo: Nora…
His voice cracks and he starts over.
Bo: Sorry…Nora, when I see you, when I look into those beautiful
eyes, I know I am home. You are my reason to wake in the morning,
my reason to make it through each day, with one thought on my
mind, coming back to you. I promise you from the bottom of my
heart, I will love you, til death do us part. I also promise you,
as a lover and a friend that I will love you like I will never
love anyone, with everything that I am. Nora, you are everything
I am. Now and forever.
Nora’s eyes are wet, as are pretty much everyone's in the
room.
Andrew: Let’s continue…Nora and Bo have pledged their
love in front of all of us, they will now exchange a symbol of
that love.
Clint hands Bo a ring.
Bo: Nora, accept this ring, as a symbol of my love, with no beginning,
with no end. It will be a continuous reminder of the love I hold
for you.
He slips the ring on her finger. Rachel hands Nora a ring.
Nora: Bo, accept this ring as a symbol of my love, with no beginning,
with no end. It will be a continuous reminder of the love I hold
for you.
Andrew: Bo, Nora. In front of everyone here, you have shared your
love and exchanged rings. It is now my honor to pronounce you
husband and wife. What God has joined let no one divide. You may
kiss your bride.
Bo breaks into a huge smile, takes Nora in his arms and gives
her a long kiss.
Asa: Ten…nine…eight…seven…six…
Everyone: five…four…three…two…one…HAPPY
NEW YEAR!!!
Everyone is hugging and kissing, Vicki and Clint, Asa and Renee,
Hank and Shelia.
The band is playing Auld Lang Syne and amidst hundreds of balloons
and an avalanche of confetti, Bo and Nora share a long passionate
kiss. When they finally separate, they hold each other, staring
into each other’s eyes…
Bo: Happy New Year, Mrs. Buchanan
Nora: Happy New Year Mr. Buchanan

Two days later, in a limo in Vienna,
Austria, Bo and Nora are in the back cuddling and kissing.
Bo: Oh, wait! Check out this new wallet I got!
He hands her the wallet.
Nora: (looking at it) Wow…it’s a…wallet. Black,
leather
Bo: Open it
Nora: Wow…money…credit cards…drivers’ license…very
boring.
Bo: Anything else?
She looks through it again
Nora: No.
Bo: Exactly!
Nora: I’m confused.
Bo: My badge…
Nora: Oh yeah! Where’s that little thing that holds it?
Bo: I won’t need one?
Nora: Why?
Bo: I retired…
Nora: Bo…
Bo: Really honey…I retired as police Commissioner.
Nora: You’re not old enough to retire.
Bo: I know. But I am so tired of the daily grind. Besides, I wanna
spend more time with you. How am I ever gonna be a family man
(author’s note: shameless plug!) if I’m always at the
station?
Nora: You can’t just forget about work…
Bo: I will be working. My own P.I. Firm. Kevin’s my first
employee. I told him not to say anything to you. And of course
I am going to need representation…
Nora: Me?
Bo: Who else?
Nora: I don’t know Bo…
Bo: C’mon! It’ll be fun! Exciting and who knows, maybe
romantic! We could travel and investigate…and best of all,
we’ll be together!
He kisses her.
Nora: Well, I guess when you put such a positive spin on it…
Bo: Great! Now, how bout we start practicing on making that family?
He kisses her again and runs his hand up her thigh under her skirt.
Nora: Here? In the limo?
Bo: Kinda exciting huh?
He kisses her as they lay back on the limo seat.
