TOGETHER FOREVER

Bo and Nora have now been back together for almost a month. Nora can't be happier. This reunion has brought them back even closer than they ever had been and the fun and excitement of their relationship was rekindled as if the candle had never been put out. She smiled as she thought about Bo and Matthew together. Bo was so protective of his son, questioning everything she or Maryann was doing as if Matthew would not survive without his supervision. Going for her annual physical check up was the last thing Nora wanted to do, but Bo would kill her if he thought she was blowing this off.

Scene 1
Nora is coming out of Dr Wolek's office. There are so many things whirling around in her head that she decides to go to her office and think everything through. She needs to be alone.

Nora arrives at her office and sits behind her desk. She doesn't really remember driving over, parking her car, or taking the elevator up here.
Nora to herself: This can't be happening. Not now. Well, I would hope not ever. What am I going to do? I have to talk to Bo. No, he would overreact and get all upset and I don't want to worry him. Maybe I'll just wait for the results before I say anything. I know, I know, I remember how angry he was when I didn't tell him about my brain tumor, but I was just protecting him. I'll do that again. Yes. I'll have the biopsy and then we'll deal with the results together.
No! I've done enough of hiding important things from Bo. This isn't how I want our relationship to go. If he had a problem and didn't tell me I would not be too happy about it at all. But what if its negative. He'll be upset for nothing. I'll tell him after. No No No. I have to tell him. Oh God, I'm so scared.

Scene 2
Bo is sitting in his office talking to Detective West.

Bo: Please bring me all the files on the break and entries for the last 3 months. There must be a connection. I want to go over them again.
West: Sure Commish. I agree. There seems to be a pattern. (Leaves)
Nora, standing at the door: Hi Bo. Busy?
Bo: Not too bad. What's up?
Nora: I need to talk to you. Can we have some privacy here?
Bo: Sure honey. (Bo gets up and closes his door and blinds and puts his phone on voice mail.) You look very pale and worried. What's the matter? Is someone sick or something?
Nora tries to smile: Bo, I wasn't going to tell you this but I know that secrets are not the best thing for our relationship. I'm wondering if you could clear your appointments this afternoon. I need you to be with me.
Bo: Of course I can. Where are we going?
Nora: To the hospital.
Bo: Excuse me?
Nora looking down: I just had my annual physical and Larry found something. (Tears come to Nora's eyes and she has trouble going on)
Bo gently: What do you mean Larry found something? Tell me now Nora.
Nora: Well, I thought that I had felt a breast lump and during my exam, Larry felt it too. I had a mammogram this morning and it confirmed that there is something there. (Nora looks at Bo and sees the worry and fear in his face) Hey, Buchanan, it's probably nothing. Its probably some popcorn or potato chip that got dislodged!
Bo trying to take all this in: Yeah, that's probably what it is. It's nothing at all to worry about. Right?
Nora: Larry has set up an appointment for me with a Dr. Taylor. She's a specialist and only fit me in as a special favor to Larry. I have to be there in about a half an hour. Can you come with me?
Bo: Of course I'm coming with you. We'll get through this together. (Bo takes Nora in his arms and holds her tight).
Nora thinks about how happy she is to have Bo. How happy she is that she told him. How scared she was.

Scene 3

In Dr Taylor's office

There's a hold up and Dr Taylor is about an hour behind. Bo is pacing then sitting, pacing then sitting.
Nora: Bo sit still please. You're driving me crazy.
Bo sits beside her and picks up a magazine.
Nora: Parlez vous francais?
Bo: Huh?
Nora: You are reading a magazine that's in French. And its upside down too!
Bo tries to smile, throws down the magazine: You didn't know my little secret did you?
Nora laughs. How perfect is he! she thinks to herself.
Nurse: Mrs Buchanan. Please come this way.
Nora: I want my husband with me, OK?
Nurse: No problem. This way please.

Nora and Bo are sitting in Dr. Taylor's consultation room. She walks in and sits behind her desk.
Dr: Sorry for the delay. Now, I was just looking at your mammogram, Mrs Buchanan, and I would like to proceed with a biopsy now. Is that all right with you?
Nora: Yes, Dr Wolek told me to expect it.
Dr: What we'll do is take you into the procedure room, I want to examine the area first then I'll probably do the procedure right there. I"ll freeze the area and I'll place a needle into the lesion. If I can draw back fluid from the area into the needle then we'll be pretty sure that we're in a cyst and I'll send the fluid to pathology. Fluid is a very good thing. We can be pretty sure that its benign if fluid is returned. If its dry, it still may not be bad news, but we will have to cut out the lump and send it to pathology to get the verdict. Any questions?
Bo: I have to be in there too. I can't wait out here.
Dr: Of course you can come in. You can hold Nora's other hand. You're not squeamish are you?
Bo puffing out his chest: No I think I can handle this.
Nora and the doctor sign the necessary papers.
Nora gets up and feels her knees shaking. She smiles at Bo and takes his hand.
Nora: What a team, huh.
Bo: Forever, Red.

Nora is lying on the table in the procedure room. The nurse and doctor are setting up for the biopsy. Bo is standing to her right holding her hand tightly.
Before they know it, its all over. The doctor is putting a small dressing on the area.
Nora: Fluid?
Dr: Absolutely. (She holds up the syringe showing a small amount of pink fluid in it).
Nora is now shaking uncontrollably): You mean its over. I'm OK?
Dr: Well we do need the labs results, but my guess is that everything is OK. If it's a cyst like I think you can leave it there if you want or you can come back and we'll set you up for its removal.
Nora: Thank you. Thank you. When should we have the results?
Dr: These tests are done right away so that we know what we're working with. Give my nurse your cell phone number and we'll call you back in about 1-2 hours.
Nora: Thank you so much. I can't tell you how great you've all been. Bo, let's blow this popstand.
Nora gets off the table and falls to the floor in a heap.
Bo: Nora, Nora
Nurse: Let's get her back on the table.
Bo and the nurse lift Nora up onto the table. Within seconds she comes around.
Dr: Nurse get her a drink of cold water please and put a cold cloth on her forehead.

Scene 4
Bo and Nora are home. Nora is lying on the couch in the living room and Bo is fussing around her. Maryann and Matthew had welcomed mom and dad home and Bo asked Maryann to take the baby out for a walk.

Bo: You sure like to leave a lasting impression everywhere you go, don't you?
Nora: Yep! I'm actually surprised that it was me that fainted, and not you!
Bo: Ha! You're OK, right?
Nora: I will be when that call comes and tells me I am. Bo, thank you for being there for me. I don't know if I could have gotten through it without you.
Bo: Nora, Nora, Nora. Its you and me together forever, remember that always.
Just then Nora's cell phone rings. Bo and Nora look at each other nervously.
Nora: Oh God. Here goes. Hello.
Dr Taylor: Good news, Nora, everything is fine. Call my office in the morning. I want to see you in 2 weeks.
Nora: For sure. I'll be there. Thank you very much.
Nora turns to Bo and falls into his arms: Together forever.
