The Tradition Continues….

At the courthouse

NORA: So Commissioner Buchanan, you found my client’s fingerprints on the nife.

BO: We did.

NORA: Were there other prints on the knife?

BO: Yes.

NORA: And who did they belong to?

BO: We don’t know.

NORA: You don’t know?

BO: No we don’t.

NORA: So they could be the real killer’s prints?

DA: Objection.

NORA: Withdrawn. What description did you have of the killer?

BO: He was 6 feet, brown hair and blue eyes.

NORA: And that matches my client’s description?

BO: Yes it does.

NORA: Aren’t there thousands of men in Pennsylvania that match that description?

BO: Possibly.

NORA: Doesn’t that description even fit you?

BO: Yes it does.

NORA: Thank you. No further questions.

FITZWATER: Let’s reconvene on Wednesday at 9:00. Everyone have a very happy and safe New Year.

Nora starts packing up her stuff while Bo waits for her.

NORA: You don’t have to wait.

BO: I figured I’d walk you out to your car.

They start walking out of the courtroom.

NORA: Okay…thanks. We really haven’t had much of a chance to catch up these days. How are you? What’s happening with all this Asa business?

BO: He’s alive and he’s back. I had to arrest him for faking his death.

NORA: Ouch…that had to hurt.

BO: It did. On the one hand I was so happy to see that he was still alive but then I realized all of the hurt and all of the anguish he put us all through just to get back at Max. I wanted to kill him.

Nora puts an arm around his shoulder.

NORA: It’ll get better. It will.

Bo looks her in the eyes.

BO: Promise?

NORA (smiling): I promise.

They get to Nora’s car. She has left her lights on.

NORA: No no no no NO!!! I can’t believe I left my lights on all day. I better call AAA and see if I can get a jump.

BO: You’ll never get AAA out here any time in the near future…not on New Years’ Eve when it’s so cold out. I can give you a ride home. We just need to walk to my office and grab my keys.

NORA: Bo…you’re a saint.

BO (smiling): I know!!

They walk back to Bo’s office where he grabs his keys. They’ve been chatting and laughing the whole way. As they are walking back to the parking lot Nora remembers something.

NORA: Where is my head today? I left a file back in the courtroom.

BO: Do you really have to have it? I bet they’ve locked the place up for the night already.

NORA: Yes..I have to have it. I need it to prepare my closing argument for Wednesday.

BO: Fine…we can take the tunnel over to the courthouse and you can grab your file and we can go.

NORA: Thanks Bo.

They get over to the courtroom where Nora rifles through some boxes and finally finds the files that she needs. She holds them up triumphantly.

NORA: Voila. Now we can leave.

As they approach the tunnel separating the courthouse from the police station the metal grate comes down, trapping them in the courthouse. Both Nora and Bo stand in stunned silence.

BO: This cannot be happening again. It can’t.

NORA: What? What do you mean…again?

BO: Two years ago we were trapped together on New Years Eve. Remember…I told you about that.

NORA: This is crazy. Let’s go upstairs and see if we can get out that way.

They make their way upstairs but the gate is locked there too. The only lights on are the evening emergency lights.

NORA: Now what?

BO: Let’s go down to the bailiff’s lounge. There’s a phone there and we can call somebody to get us out of here.

They head to the lounge where they find vending machines, a couch and even a radio Bo picks up the phone but there is no dial tone.

BO: What the…? Why no dial tone?

NORA: Bo…this courthouse is set to be destroyed next week. Everything has already been moved to the new courthouse. Judge Fitzwater only agreed to let us have our trial here because we had started it here and she didn’t want all of us to move. So I guess that means you don’t have your cell phone with you either?

BO: No…it’s back in my office. I guess we make the most of it. Want something to drink?

NORA: Sure…why not.

Bo puts some money in the machine and gets them both a ginger ale. He pops the top on each and hands a can to Nora as he sits on the couch next to her. He holds the can up in a toast.

BO: Happy New Year Red.

NORA (smiling): Happy New Year Bo.

BO: At least we’re keeping our tradition alive.

NORA: What tradition?

BO: Ever since you’ve been in Llanview, we’ve always spent New Years Eve together.

NORA (smiling as she remembers): We have…haven’t we.

BO: Yep. And we celebrated in some very interesting places….the warehouse, the hospital, Serentity Springs….

NORA: The police station. So I guess the courthouse isn’t that bad of a place for us to be stuck huh?

BO: Not too bad. Did you and Sam have plans tonight?

NORA: We were going to go to the Palace. Oh well….

BO: I’m sorry that you’re stuck with me.

NORA (quietly): I’m not.

Bo just looks at her. Nora stares back.

NORA: I asked him to marry me.

BO: What?

NORA: Yea…I got down on my knees and I begged him to marry me.

BO: You shouldn’t get on your knees to anyone. I suppose he said yes.

NORA: No…he said we should wait.

BO: What?

NORA: I guess we decided that we like things the way they are and that we don’t have to be married.

BO: Not even for Matt? I gotta say that I’m surprised.

NORA: You know what? I’m glad he said no.

BO (taking her hand in his): Why?

NORA: Cuz something isn’t right. I just feel it. There’s more going on then he will tell me. I don’t feel the same way about him as I did about you. And maybe the way I still feel about you.

BO (kissing her gently): I don’t know what to say?

NORA: Just don’t say that you don’t feel the same way.

BO: I could never say that. Because I do feel the same way. You will always be the only woman that I truly love.

He leans over and kisses her deeply as she wraps her arms around him.

BO: I’ve been meaning to do that for a while now. I’ve missed you.

NORA: I’ve missed you too.

BO stands up and turns on the radio. He reaches out and takes Nora’s hand in his.

BO: Dance with me?

Nora stands up and wraps her arms around Bo. They hold each other tight. [Click here for the song]

Unforgettable, that's what you are
Unforgettable, though near or far
Like a song of love that climbs to me
Is the thought of you that sings to me
Never before has someone been more

Unforgettable, in every way
And forever more, that's how you stay
That's why, darling, it's incredible
That someone so unforgettable
Thinks that I am unforgettable too

No, never before has someone been more
Unforgettable, in every way
And forever more, that's how you stay
That's why, darling, it's incredible
That someone so unforgettable thinks that I am unforgettable too

Bo and Nora continue to sway slowly to the song.

NORA: You are unforgettable you know.

BO (kissing her passionately): So are you. I have an idea for next New Years Eve.

NORA : Really? What?

BO: How about you, me and Matthew spend the night in bed watching videos and eating junk food?

NORA: I love you Bo.

BO: I love you too Red.

THE END!!!
