The Best Is Yet To Come part 2
Nora woke in Bo’s arms. He was still sitting, still asleep, but she had slid down a little and was hugging him around the waist, her head resting on his chest. She smiled, kissed his chest and closed her eyes. Then bolted from the bed.
Nora: (panicking) Bo!!! Oh my God!! Where is Madison!!! BO!!
Bo awoke with a startle. He wiped his eyes and opened them to see Nora frantically on her knees looking under the bed.
Bo: Red…what’s wrong?
Nora: (looking up over the top of the bed and slamming her hand on it) Our daughter is gone!!
Bo: (standing up) What??!!!!
Nora: We fell asleep last night….(standing up and rushing to the opposite side of the bed) call the station….(calling out) Madison!!! (beginning to cry) Maddie….
Bo: Honey…calm down….(rubbing his face in frustration) Did you carry her to her crib earlier?
Nora: (crying) I brought her in here at 4:30…I never left…
Bo: Have you checked her crib?
Nora: (frustrated) No…I didn’t put her back in there….
Bo: Let’s check her room…
They rush down the hall to the nursery. Bo runs to the crib.
Nora:(closing her eyes and clasping her hands) Tell me she’s in there…
Bo: (turns slowly and looks at her) No…
Nora: Bo!! Where is she???
Matt walks into the room with Maddie slung on his hip.
Matt: Morning…what’s all the running and yelling?
Nora: (rushing and taking the baby from Matt) Madison!!
Matt: Ma?
Bo: Did you take her?
Matt: She didn’t walk out of your room…you guys were sound asleep, she wasn’t…
Nora: She was awake and I didn’t hear her?
Matt: Ma…it's no big deal…I was going downstairs, I heard Peanut gurgling and I came and got her (tickling Maddie’s cheek and talking baby talk to her) and we watched extreme snow boarding and we had breakfast and we even changed diapers…didn’t we Peanut?
Maddie smiles and reaches for Matt.
Matt: (making kissy lips to Maddie) Who’s my baby girl? (Maddie touches Matt's lips and he starts to sing to her) You’re my baby girl…yes you are…you’re my baby girl…you’re my shining star…
Bo: (putting an arm around Matt) Thanks…but you scared your mom to death!
Matt: Sorry…
Nora: No…it's fine…really…(Nora sits down in the rocking chair with Maddie) And you young lady…
Matt: Pop…I gotta get to the field…
Bo: You got practice?
Matt: Nah…me and some of the guys are gonna play a scrub game…ya know…to get ready for tomorrow…
Bo: You need a lift?
Matt: Nah…I’m gonna take my bike…
Nora: (to Matt) Did you eat breakfast or did you just feed Maddie…
Matt: I ah…um…
Nora: I could make you an omelet
Bo: (whispering under his breath to Matt) Save yourself…
Matt: No…really mom…I uh…
Bo: I just bought you those energy bars…
Matt: Yeah…don’t want to fill up too much, can’t play ball all bloated...um..all full…
Nora: (biting her lip) uh huh…
Matt: You still need Stacy and I to watch Peanut tonight?
Nora: Stacy and me…
Matt: (smiling slyly) Cool! Pop…you wanna catch the game tonight with me since Ma and Stace (looking at Nora and winking)
Nora: Very funny…yes…we still want Stacy and you to watch Madison…
Matt: Cool…I’m going by her house after the game and we’ll be here by?
Nora: Our reservations are for 7:30
Matt: 6:00?
Nora: Sounds fair…
Matt: You guys springing for the zah?
Bo stands behind Matt and mouths to Nora “zah”? and shrugs his shoulders.
Nora: We’ll leave you money, you can order your own zah…
Matt: you are awesome…
Nora: So I have been told…be careful…
Matt: Always am…(he walks over and kisses Nora on the cheek) love you ma…
Nora: (runs her hand over the back of Matt’s head) love you too baby…
Matt: (points at Bo) Pop…
Bo: Later son…
Matt leaves and Bo walks over to Nora and Maddie and kneels in front of them. Maddie instinctively reaches for Bo’s ears.
Bo: Hey little lady…(Maddie sticks her fingers in Bo’s mouth and he pretends to bite them) you and your brother gave mommy quite a heart attack…
Nora: (touching Bo’s shoulder) You were a bit concerned…
Bo: I know…I would die if anything happened to her…or you…or Matt…
Nora: (smiling) I love you Bo…
Bo: Hey…I know that (he leans in and kisses her gently) you want some breakfast?
Nora: I’ll make us….
Bo: You take care of the princess…I’ll make us some breakfast…
Nora: Deal…eggs?
Bo: And bacon…
Nora: You know me too well Buchanan…too well…
Bo: (standing and heading out of the room) give me about fifteen…
Nora: I’ll give you twenty if you throw in some coffee…
Bo: Deal
Nora: (to Maddie) Your daddy is the best guy in the whole world…he's handsome…and strong…(standing and walking to the dresser) and loving….(picking up a picture of Madison when she was first born) and brave…(Maddie reaches for the picture) and he’s a great kisser…
Nora walks to the changing table and lays Madison down and proceeds to get her dressed for the day.
Nora: (picking the baby up and holding her out a few inches) You look gorgeous madam. (They head downstairs)
Bo is pouring the coffee as the toast pops up. Nora places Maddie in her bouncy seat on the table and sits down.
Bo: And how are my lovely ladies today?
Maddie smiles and kicks causing the chair to bounce.
Nora: Happy as always…
Bo: So...you think you are going to be able to handle tonight?
Nora: Wuh?
Bo: (setting a plate in front of her and kissing her quickly before taking his chair) Wuh? You and I going out on a date and leaving little miss here with her big brother…
Nora: (touching Maddie’s foot as she eats) I think a short time out won’t hurt either of us (to the baby) will it angel face?
Bo: (taking a bite to eat and rolling his eyes) And I spoil her?
Nora: (smiling at Bo and then the baby)Terribly…
Bo: Well…tonight (bite of food) I am going to spoil her very beautiful and sexy mom…
Nora: So…other than these “reservations” what else can you tell me about the date?
Bo: Not a thing…it’s a surprise…we haven’t been out together, just you and I in ages…
Nora: (playing with Maddie’s foot still) That’s because we have a baby now…daddy…(to Maddie) don’t we…la la la (Maddie smiles and kicks her feet)
Bo: (Bo gets a warm feeling in his stomach as he watches Nora play witht he baby) She is perfect…
Nora: (still baby talking) Yes she is…she’s just the most perfect little baby…
Bo: (getting out of his chair and walking around to Nora’s chair, he stands behind her and begins to kiss her neck) You are pretty perfect too…
Nora: (moves her head to allow him to continue) You are not so bad yourself…
Bo (running his hands down her arms and back up) Isn’t it time for a little someone to take her morning nap?
Nora: I’m not tired…
Bo: (moving to the other side of her neck and kissing) I hope not….
Nora: Bo…Maddie is watching us…
Bo: Then we better put her in her bed and we should continue this…(he moves around and kisses her lips) upstairs..
Nora: (smiling) Get her a bottle and I’ll meet you upstairs…
Bo: (smiling) You got it…
