Popular Opinion: Lawyer Nora's not perfect, but she's one of
the most human citizens of Llanview. Faced with a moral decision,
she errs on the side of scruples, like when she threw Todd's
rape trial (knowing he was guilty); kept Dorian's secret (that
she'd run down a pregnant Jessica) while convincing her to 'fess
up; and lying to Bo that she was pregnant to keep him from committing
suicide (and then sleeping with Sam to ensure that she really
was). Lately, as she works to entrap Colin to get back at Lindsay
(the one townie who will never be won over), Nora may be doing
the wrong thing--but always for the right reasons.
Hillary B. Smith Says:
Why does nearly everyone like Nora?
"She has been a champion of pretty much everyone's cause
at some point. She's not afraid to go in and stand by her friends.
That's something I respect in real life, someone who's not afraid
to hold on to the integrity of their feelings."
Nora wasn't always so well-liked, was she?
"No, she came in as Hank's pesky ex-wife. And then Bo and
she met, and he was such a good 'ol boy that it infuriated her
and those two didn't get along--at first. It was kind of earned,
through actions. The rape trial found the town liking her, but
she had won over a couple of key heads in the beginning."
Does she get cut less slack if she does anything untoward?
"Absolutely. Breaking up Lindsay's wedding--people were
unhappy because she had ruined Bo and Lindsay's happiness, and
they questioned her motives. But I think some people have cut
her some slack since she returned from the dead."
Is Nora the kind of person who cares what people think about
her?
"She's first and foremost concerned about what she thinks
about herself. She feels if she's lived up to her standards and
they fall short of other people's, it doesn't matter that much.
The most important judge and jury is her own self."
Is Nora someone you'd pick as a friend?
"Oh, yeah, and I'd definitely hire her as a lawyer!"
